I'm simply awestruck by the sheer amount of empty seats every game in Florida, even when they play the top teams. And they're doing very well this year. With that type of fan support, I wonder how they can pay anybody. Maybe they can take Kessel to Quebec City or Las Vegas but I don't see the franchise staying in Sunrise. It's dead Jim.

Please retire after the season?

Murray's dismantling of Regier's vision continues. Both Myers and Stafford, as young as they are, were part of the old guard. Both players were inconsistent, to say it nicely. Myers makes bad defensive mistakes; I think it's his offensive mindset that gets him confused and just standing around. Stafford disappeared during his Sabres tenure for almost entire seasons. He was able to get away with it because…I don't know. Not to mention his mental comedic and music sideshows and that fatal picture with Roy and Pominville. Fans have been clamoring for him to get bounced for years. Both Myers and Stafford made Buffalo fans pull their hair out. These players were mostly hype, myth and hoping to come around. They never did. Armia was a Regier pick. He is undoubtedly talented but often injured…in the AHL. Who knows how he will stand up to the rigors of the NHL? Brendan Lemieux, a Murray pick, we hardly knew ye. He sounds good and abrasive. I think Murray was most sorry to lose him of all, even though he hasn't played one minute of NHL time. How many players with 45 goals in the minors are able to do that in the NHL? We'll see. To throw in a #1 pick…I think was over reaching but what the heck. Kane and Bogosian are real NHL players. Consistent, hard-hitting honest players who both happen to be top 5 draft picks. They're they best players in the deal. They're not soft or dumb like Stafford and Myers. Not sure about the locker room cancer rumors but I think life in the 'Peg for a star black athlete has got to be tough. It's lonesome out there a million miles from nowhere, embedded in a sea of white faces. And when they got Byfuglien, who had similar locker room problems in Chicago, they were an ill-matched Type A pair. One of them had to go. And Buffalo has a real black community, and possibly 4-5 new black players coming. It's a given that Bogosian is much smarter and more defensive minded than Myers. I'm sure he can easily complete an outlet pass, unlike Myers. Not sure of his offensive ability but who cares? As long as he fulfills his role as a d-man and prevents goals, I'll be happy. I think he's an upgrade from Myers. The only thing I worry about, as others have mentioned, is that the Atlanta Thrashers were an organization in chaos who forced these two budding stars into NHL action before their time. They were immature and got hurt. The injuries apparently have piled up and now they don't play nearly enough games. Maybe Buffalo can right the ship with these two. But the Sabres have got to clean house, and I'm afraid that includes Coach Nolan. We need a coach who has already won a cup, who knows what it takes, like Bylsma. One thing for sure, I know I won't miss Myers and Stafford one bit.

Finally. Take your guitar and Asperger's and leave.

I was hoping for more of a return for Myers. I thought we might be able to sucker some players for him alone. Trading away Drew Stafford was a gift to the Sabres. I think Armia is ultimately skilled but weak and injury prone, right from the Sabres mold, perfect for the KHL or similar league. Brendan Lemieux is a wild card. He might turn out really good, but he sure has a mouth for a youngster. Did we have to throw in a first rounder to sweeten this deal? The Sabres over-reached. We won't see Kane til next year of course. I just can't get those images of him with all the stacks of money. Kanye West-like. He might be gifted and a hardass who can challenge Lucic but why make a problem your centerpiece in a trade? It's the Incognito-Kane mentality now that Buffalo must get these splashy. controversial players... Bogosian is still only 24...a first rounder that I the Sabres have coveted for a long time.. I know nothing about Kasdorf but it seems like this tells us Buffalo still hasn't settled on a goalie. It only takes one...(see Hasek) Ultimately it might be a wash. We get rid of 3 useless players and trade to the Jets for their main useless player and perhaps an underachieving 3rd overall draft choice defenseman.

I wonder how Bufuglien got Kane's track suit into the cold shower. Was Kane in the track suit?

a legend in his own mind.

Speaking of Artem "The Russian Concussion" Kryukov, look at these career stats in the RSL and KHL. We are not worthy! :worthy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artem_Kryukov

Thank you Chz. I was around at that time. It brought back some memories: The biggest thing to me how the capacity of the Aud was a bit over 10,000 and how loud and enthusiastic the crowds were the first few years. Everyone said it…You can get an idea of that from the clips. Much more than the morgue they call the HSBC now. The smoothness and professionalism of Ted Darling. Gil Perreault, the bushy-haired young colt, head up, mouth open, skating, always skating. The white uniforms at home. The royal blue. The boards without any ads. The old-time gondola scoreboards. Punch Imlach and his staff look like men. There is a lot of boy in today's man, maybe it's the chemicals in food and drink. I liked how Imlach improved the team incrementally. He'd be happy to improve the team 10-15 percent at a time. I liked his luck too. And the hat. He looked like and reminds you of Jimmy Griffin. The greasy hair…everyone had it. It was in style. Vitalis, Grecian Formula... The Knoxes and their aristocrat looks. Seeing Gilles Villemure as a Ranger a year after winning the Calder Cup in Buffalo. Gerry Meehan. Tall, rangy, fast. The pedestrian looks of these hockey players, as opposed to today's chiseled athletes. Look at Capt. Floyd Smith. A young Brian MacFarlane. The smoke-filled drafting rooms. Seeing Bobby Orr, Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, Jean Beliveau compete against our boys. Almost no helmets on any of the players. Joe Daley on the Sabres, the last NHL goalie to go without a mask. Hearing the names Randy Wyrozub, Skip Krake, Steve Atkinson for the first time in decades. Seeing guys like Eddie Shack and the late Reggie Fleming. Training outdoors. The exercises. Seeing the genesis of the Buffalo-Toronto rivalry, seeing that guy from Toronto (name?) who said there will be no rivalry because the Leafs will win every game. How easy it seemed for this first year expansion team to score goals, as opposed to the tepid franchise of the last few years.

I like Mitchell Marner. 5-11 160, built like Gretzky. 95 points in 44 games. But you can't have Marner or McEichel out in space by himself. You need equally skilled and players like Dvorak to partner with Marner…Sabres of course have nothing to surround anybody with. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCS53q1eGZ4

Flawed is too nice a word for this bunch. Fatally flawed is more like it.

I took a rest from the Sabres at the All Star break. Right off the bat, I'm looking at the roster v Calgary and see these players on our team that I don't think would crack any other NHL roster. Strachan, Flynn, Ellis, Mitchell, Weber, Kaleta, Meszaros. I see others sitting up in the stands waiting to take their place who I'm equally unenthusiastic about: Benoit and McCormick. On ability alone, these guys should be out. Ability is one thing, attitude is harder to detect. But my votes for bad attitude are Hodgson, Stafford, Stewart. Fading former stars sent to Buffalo to die include Moulson, Gionta, Gorges. Just not good enough: Enroth, Neuvirth. Guys who just don't get it: Myers, Foligno. That's nineteen flawed players that are ruining our team right there . So that leaves us a grand total of three players with Ennis, Ristolainen, Girgensons, with Zadorov a maybe. I have to wonder about Murray assembling this all star cast of losers. Maybe Murray & Nolan were a big joke played on Pegula by LaFontaine,

I wonder if Murray has an NHL future.

Observations: Ovenchicken has lots of grey hair. When did that happen? Kessel has a big fat head but can skate like the wind. I expected Stamkos and several others to top 100mph. Didn't happen. Amazing passing display by Getzlaf. 27-28 year old players are starting to look a bit old compared to some of the youngsters like Gaudreau and Drouin. Kaner could stickhandle through 10,000 pucks on youtube but couldn't dribble through 10 pucks last night. Wondering how Foligno even made the team? Shea Weber missed his first slapshot and everyone laughed. People didn't laugh at his second shot though. Girgensons wasn't featured for too long during the skills competition for the biggest vote getter of all. Halak looks like a solid goalie. Wonder why Murray shipped him off just like that? What, no Thomas Vanek? Hockey players make the absolute worst interviews ever.

Pat Malloy - New Buffalo Sabres Skating Coach (new in October, anyway)
Marvelo replied to MBHockey13's topic in The Aud Club
How about a passing coach? If you can't pass, you can't break out of your own end and you can't set up plays. I'm being a bit sarcastic here in this historically bad season but not really. I see the worst passing of any team I ever saw with this bunch and last year's bunch. Guys who can't even complete a breakout pass should be summarily dumped, not honored with multi million dollar contracts. Passing is just so basic to the game and if you can't do that, you can't make hockey the team game it needs to be. Or a shooting coach? If you can't shoot, you won't score, even if one of the errant passes somehow winds up on your stick. Guess what, the sabres can neither pass or score, in historic fashion. Pegula needs to sell the team. -
Grantland: 10 Facts about the 1988-89 Buffalo Sabres

If Perreault ever got traded to the Habs at the end of his career like he wanted to, he might still be playing. Instead, he retired mid-season after scoring about a point a game, IMO in disgust. -
Tim Murray - Poor Spender? - Cap Jail?
Marvelo replied to Ghost of Dwight Drane's topic in The Aud Club
Fans on sports radio have been talking about dealing Lucic here in Boston. He's definitely not earning his 3 yr $18mil extension with 9g/15a/69pim. It would be a match made in heaven….Lucic and Buffalo. Pegula loves to overpay for non-performing has-beens and Lucic is coasting along on reputation only. And coasting is just Buffalo's speed…it would be like the second coming of Dave Schultz, who came to Buffalo all worn out. -
I saw 2 errant passes and an ice by Myers.

There was a sequence in the 3rd period last night where Myers was back in his end and being chased. He threw a pass over to Gorges, the passed missed. Myers got the puck back, and try to get the pass back to Gorges again, the pass missed. Myers got the puck again and iced it. I personally can't see how Myers will net a return like Tatar or Nykvist, two proven skilled forwards. He can't hit the broad side of a barn and he's a doof.
