The thing I've noticed this year are much more surprised goalie reactions after goals than any year I can remember. I wonder if it has anything to the smaller goalie pads.

It's time to dump some bad players if possible
Marvelo replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
I know Pegula has built up the city of Buffalo with his projects but the man has been fielding rotten team after rotten team with both franchises. I think he's clearly in over his head as an owner of one pro sports team let alone two. First time I saw him he was crying about Gil Perreault. Was he also crying when he begged Lafontaine to take over? We know how that ended. Watch him speak it seems like the lights are out upstairs, soft as a grape. I think Pegula is the big problem with the Sabres. He is one of the dumbest and unluckiest owners in sports, behind maybe an Arte Moreno of the Angels. I wish he would give up the teams to 2 smart owners who know about their respective pro sports. -
I dont know.

I still say Girgensons slew-footed Eichel causing that injury that has ruined our season. Why slew foot the best player on the team??Whatever the reason, it was a lousy thing to do...Gus has either been ruined by our merry-go-round management or is a big disappointment for an ex #1 and I say trade him.

Maybe Buffalo should just give up on professional sports. We're bad at it.

Game discussion thread GDT Sabres at Devils 11-12-16 7PM
Marvelo replied to spndnchz's topic in The Aud Club
They should cancel all Sabres vs. Devils games now until the end of time. :wallbash:    :death:  :bag: (Unfortunately there are no emoticons for sleeping) -
does anybody know if there are any rules against a backup goalie being inserted in the shootout? (hint hint)

I like what I see with the Eichel-less Sabres. They are becoming a good defensive team. Their transitions from their own end are much much smoother, easier and better than in years before. I think you can attribute this to smarter, more skilled and more experienced players who don't fold under pressure. I was really liking the Bogosian-Kulikov pairing before B got inevitably hurt. Kulikov sure has an edge, he can lay people out and he isn't beyond playing dirty. Glad we have someone like that on our side for a change. They still can't put pucks in the net though but they're big and heavy and fast, hard to play against. Goaltending has been a very pleasant surprise. These two factors keep the scores down. When Eichel comes back and reunites with Sam, hopefully we'll see three-four goals a game again which should be more than enough to win in most cases with our d and goalies. I really don't think Kane is smart enough to last a season without a major injury. He's too reckless; it's almost as if he wants to be hurt. I like what I see especially with the transitions out of the Sabres end and they're only getting better.

Maybe we can get wikileaks to give us Breaking News about the NHL tampering with Connor McDavid going not to Buffalo but to the Oilers.
-
They need to get on a roll but the scoring just isn't there without Eichel and Kane to a lesser extent.
-
I always wondered what made Mogilny miss all those breakaways that year before his departure. Was it a demonstration that things weren't right with the organization or just coincidence?
-
Kane doesn't know how to stay healthy. He plays crazy reckless, on the edge and he doesn't hold back. Unfortunately I think he's a high injury risk going forward. Longterm injuries have plagued him throughout his career. At 25 he has a list of serious injuries, seems to have little hockey sense, puts himself into vulnerable positions and has little sense of self preservation or personal common sense. He is just an emotional animal out there. Not sure what to do with Kane but it looks like we're stuck with him…

I was looking at the replay of the injury. I know there was a shaky camera but it appeared to me that Girgensons stuck out his leg on Jack and injured him with that leg whip.

We'll see.

Sad. He was part of one of those historically bad Sabres teams and couldn't recover his stroke.

I happened to look up Larry Mickey and meant to post this before... Its a cautionary tale. He was on the '74-75 team (who was probably 1-2 players away from winning the Cup --Butch Goring anyone? vs Flyers...) He was mediocre and hung on by his fingernails as a hockey player. When his career was over, he still tried to be involved in hockey but hockey did not want him. Problem: all he ever wanted to do was hockey. He was an alcoholic, had several failed ventures, became more and more mental and committed suicide. http://www.nytimes.com/1982/09/08/sports/after-hockey-life-was-too-difficult.html?pagewanted=all -
Chz, Thank you for starting a stimulating and hopefully useful discussion with your story. I don't believe any harm was meant on your part. You may not know that antisemitism has made an enormous comeback in the past few years both in incidents both here and in Europe and in many posts I see on the internet. Increasingly, I see many people freely using words like this as comments to all kinds of discussions on different websites. Because i'm now seeing this pretty often i wanted to take this opportunity to let people know how offensive and hurtful this word is to Jewish people. Because this and many other ethnic/racial/gender slurs are now being thrown around the internet casually and not everyone may realize or care about their impact.
-
Fair enough Freeman. My concern is not malicious intent but that people are unaware or don't know how upsetting this word is to Jewish people or other words are to other minorities. Bottom line, treat people the way you like to be treated and be aware of how these types of words hit nerves and cause pain.
-
We are talking about individual words that are used as slurs in this thread. They have no other point except being shorthand to insult or to harm another group. Racial slurs are words that don't teach. It's not same as decades or centuries of history. History has a way of teaching. Hopefully you have qualified and responsible people teaching these classes although I wouldn't take that for granted these days.
-
This isn't about you personally. It's about your idea of the validity of casually using hateful expressions to put down other groups of people. This particular word that I and most other Jewish people find so offensive has hurt us for so many generations. I don't have to cite examples of other expressions or nicknames that put down other different groups. These aren't just words. These words are shorthand for ideas. Destructive ideas. These ideas are charged and have dimensions and histories of their own. By casually repeating this and other similar words to suit your everyday purposes, you and others are also giving life to very dangerous ideas that are very destructive to people.
