As someone who was recently confronted with the twenty unopened boxes that were put in the attic when we bought our house eight years ago: Take what you'll die without. Light the rest on fire.

He's like a smarter, more talented Matthew Barnaby. Everybody hates him except the team he's on at any particular moment.

People like music you heathens.

What can we expect from GM Jason Botterill?

I don't really understand the Kulikov is garbage" theme. He was injured the entire time he was here. He has been demonstrably better than garbage previously when not injured. Not ever going to be a Norris candidate, but, and I can not possibly stress this enough, if not injured he can be a useful role player for the right price for some team in the NHL. Won't be the Sabres from the sounds of things, but such is life. -
Desert Island Discs? I'll play: 1. The Cure: Disintegration 2. Bowie: Blackstar 3. The Clash: London Calling 4. The Smiths: The Queen is Dead 5. Jimi Hendrix: Electric Ladyland God, cutting the list to five is painful. But this is about right.

Annnnnd.... goodnight.

Yeah... I'm not sure which has been the worst one so far. Neal? Probably? No idea what Gibson was doing there. Edit: Gibson. Mason uninvolved. Heh.

I love Dave Lozo. He might be my spirit animal. On Jeter... https://twitter.com/davelozo/status/863908479991508994

Evidently it's the traffic apocalypse getting there. In SoCal, of all places... Filthy shot by Silfverberg there for the opening goal...

Speaking of time machines, I was thinking about the following earlier: Though I personally don't like Nirvana, Nevermind was a big deal for a number of reasons. Released in 1992. Twenty-five years ago. Also, twenty-five years after 1967, which saw, among others I can't get to: Sgt. Pepper, The Velvet Underground and Nico, Are You Experienced?, I could go on. I'm very much a child of the 80's, so I'm perhaps biased, but looking back it seems to me like the first part of that half-century moved a good deal faster in terms of experimentation, new styles, and new ideas than the latter half. Not that there's no good new stuff now, but the changes made to the record industry and the way we consume music along with the consequences those changes have had on the way artists do business, means that everything you're likely to hear is all a bit samey. You're on your own to find the rest. Fortunately we have the tools to do the digging, but I miss the days of 120 Minutes and CMJ.

Oh, hey, there's hockey tonight. Nice. Now that my bracket has been set on fire officially, here's hoping Nashville pounds the Ducks.

Tying the above into another recent death, Jonathan Demme. He directed Stop Making Sense, the Talking Heads (with Bernie Worrell among others) movie that might just be the best concert film ever made. Bonus points for Silence of the Lambs.

Also, baseball doesn't really lend itself to situations where the spectator needs to ID players quickly. If you're paying attention, everybody in the field is in a certain place, batters and base runners go in order. IMO anyway.

The video for Lazarus is an absolute gut-punch as well. The final scene where he closes the closet door but we all know it's a coffin... .

Blackstar is magnificent. I listened to it the day it was released and had mixed feelings. He died and it hit me like a ton of bricks. Hard going now, but so good. I'm not so sure how many people, let alone artists, stared down death as well as he did and documented it for the rest of us.

I'll give Bean credit for doing the best he could with what he had to work with. It certainly worked, up to a certain level. I'll question his decision to publish a book detailing extensively exactly what he was doing and thereby erasing any advantage he had whatsoever to enrich himself. But whatevs. -

Culminating in exactly one playoff series win. I suppose it depends on where you put the goalposts. If the goal is to win the World Series, then it was a failure, ultimately. If the goal was to win as many games as possible while spending as little money as possible, then I supppose I'd agree it was a success. I guess. -

A strategy that never actually accomplished anything besides selling books. -
Not only did that film give us Shelley Long, but I just looked because I was curious, and I will have you know that it made a profit. So there.

I'll cede the boy-band beginnings, though for the time what they did even then was still revolutionary. The quoted is just hot nonsense and you should sit the next few plays out. At laeast as applied to not-Ringo. And hell, even he was awesome on Shining Time Station. (Kids, ask your parents).

There may be something to this. I did go to college in the mid to late 90's...

Have you listened to Dave Matthews?
-
Dave Matthews. His music is what I imagine it sounds like when Satan passes wind.

Fair enough. I'm in the Bald and Grey are both furiously racing to see which one gets me first stage. They're tied.
