  1. In all honesty, I dunno that there's any real evidence for either of your propositions.
  2. This song seems appropriate given my current circumstances.... http://youtu.be/U6lCVgE6xnM
  3. The antics are strong in Vegas with that one.... Yeah, no. I figure it'll cost the Sabres more to replace his production than it would to resign him. Stupid GM's of other teams have set the market for scoring wingers at about .25 cents to the dollar. Sign the dude.
  4. Actual vacation story: my senior year of high school, I went with a friend who graduated a year ahead of me and his brother who was a year behind me to Ft. Benning Georgia over winter break (he enlisted). This included New Year's Eve in Savannah. 17 year old me learned a lot about life (and strip clubs, and recreational drugs) that week. Of course, since the older brother who drove us down was staying this led younger brother and I to have to buy Greyhound tickets from Savannah to Buffalo. Fun ride. Never doing that again. I showered for a full day after being on that bus for 38 hours... Would do it again in a heartbeat. Middle aged me might not be able to get away with it though.
  5. Looking at this and considering what has been said previously, I wonder if our defenseman are really that bad. I'm talking myself into a BOGO return to the top specifically. Also, Josh Gorges could probably play as a 6 if not required to hold the entire zone by himself after the inevitable failure of yet another stretch pass.
  6. In the meantime, the rest of the league is being held to ransom, the league in general is (even further) unbalanced, and I'm being told I should care about Will Carrier. Hopefully Seattle is required to pay eleventy-billion dollars so that Bettman is forced to award them Gretzky Lemieux Howe Orr Richard (all three) and Plante clones and/or robots to justify the expenditure. And we'll still have ads on the jerseys.
  7. Marian Hossa may have to retire due to severe allergies to equipment. Evidently the medication he's been taking to counter that is potentially messing him up as well. That's messed up and I feel bad for the guy. If he does have to hang them up, it'll be interesting to see just how bananas the rest of the league goes when Chicago pulls a Pronger in order to avoid the cap recapture penalty that they can in no way handle. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/hockey/blackhawks/ct-marian-hossa-retirement-20170620-story.html
  8. This might just be the most embarrassing Mets team I've seen with my own eyes. And I vividly remember 1992 and 93. Also, the Dodgers are really good.
  9. Hat tip to the Sabres for not being able to put a working link to the photos of the jerseys on their own freaking mobile app.
  10. Studied abroad in Shanghai / Beijing. Beijing is one of the funnest places on earth as long as you're not Chinese. Thier drinking culture makes Ireland look like a Temperance Society tearoom. Double points deducted if you're Japanese. The Chinese haven't forgotten. In Beijing we stayed in this massive compound that was built by the Soviets in the 50's and repurposed into a hotel. There were all sorts of cold-war quirks. in order to get to breakfast we'd have to go through a series of underground tunnels to the other side of the compound. Clearly utilitarian in design, they'd turned the sub levels into kind of a market. it was neat. I'd be walking down the street and parents would drag their (usually quite young) children up to me and ask if I'd speak English with them. Fascinating.
  11. If you'd like to dial the existential terror to 11 while pondering existence and the universe google "Vaccuum Decay" and off you go. And remmeber, it may have already happened, we just don't know it yet.
  12. Working night shifts (inside a windowless office) at or near the summer solstice is mind-bending. I won't not see the sun for five days...
  13. Randall, my dear friend and fellow Bonnie, it's not always about you. Also, do not disrespect my couch or you will be bleeding from yo chest...
  14. They paid in half a billion dollars for the team. Not that it's right, but this greases wheels. Read an interview with Doug McClean the other day In which he was spitting fire about this. He had to deal not only with much more favorable rules for existing teams, but another expansion team. He was pissed about the bottom of the barrel (and also Geoff Sanderson) that he had to work with compared to the relative largesse being shown to Vegas. (They're still going to be terrible though, I can not stress that enough). Still, nobody's going to sink that much money into a team if they field isn't somewhat tilted accordingly. It's how capitalism works. At least in the socialist world of North American pro sports.
  15. 1. Lighten up, Francis. 2. The angst over this... it's disproportionate to the facts of the situation. This is the ooze from whence the CONCEPT is berthed. Everybody loses somebody tomorrow. Ennis, Carrier, somebody else. Do I think that you think he's going to be a star? Nope. But he is JAG, and bemoaning the putative loss of JAG is not something I'm compelled to either do or understand when others do it. Maybe he's slightly above JAG by the slimmest of margins. Should he be chosen (which I still do not think will happen) then there will be, like the mythical hydra, three more JAGs rushing in to try to take his place. maybe one of them works out better, who knows. 3. Ennis is immensely more talented and if healthy adds more to the team. The "if healthy" is where that train of thought dies, but still, JBOT rolled the dice. (Ennis is also garbage, but whatever, maybe he surprises us) 4. I've been up for 30 hours and need to go to bed so I can go to work tonight, but I'll happily pick this back up this evening.
  16. None of this makes Carrier any better.
  17. Pretty much this. Lenny is fine. Best to be signing him so long as it's reasonable.
  18. Carrier has "guy playing a line above where he should be on an expansion team" written all over him.
  19. It could be the case that the last protected slot had to go somewhere, and the veritable conucopia of meh available to JBOT means that Ennis gets it because why not? I also firmly believe that we're coming dangerously close to "Concept of Carrier" territory. Plenty of other questionably talented rookies willing to skate through walls...
  20. Not to beat this dead horse further, but here's where I do the joke where I'm shocked they didn't resign him to a max contract so long as he promises not to play ever again.
  21. LeBrun tweeting that Shane Doan is done in Arizona (but still mit look elsewhere, maybe). Most of this board wasn't alive the last time he wasn't on that franchise's active roster...
  22. https://sinbin.vegas/sabres-gm-recalls-favor-mcphee-expansion-deal-coming/ He ate Klesla's cap hit for him in the Halak trade. Dunno if the coupon was transferable to JBOT though....
  23. The winking would be between LV and Kuli, the latter promising them he'll sign.
  24. They'll take Moulson in the draft and sign Kuli 7/1 in a wink-wink sort of way.
  25. Second thought: LV is going to have to pick up sizable salary somewhere, why not Matty Mo. He does have connections to their front office, after all.
