Whoops.
-
Also, we'll recall the sneaky attempt by Vancouver to make Louongo the captain against NHL rules and all common sense. Hmmm... Now that I consider it, that might speak more to a horribly flawed roster construction than it does goalies in leadership because of good reasons. Note, I have no actual information that Price is an actual leader on that team in any way. But it'd make sense.

We're gonna have to agree to disagree. I do get what you're saying, and understand that there are many factors above and beyond money-grabbing at play. I just firmly believe for the reasons stated above that McDavid leaving any money on the table is, in the long run, detrimental to the whole of NHLPA membership, now and more so in the future, both short and long term.
-
Fair enough and agreed to in part. My main issue is that there appears, IMO, to be a free pass given to ownership (on this specific issue) whereas players get pressure from multiple sides to take less and less of a pie that is growing, claims of the latter camp notwithstanding. Again, the dollars involved make all parties (especially the players for reasons) relatively unsympathetic, but it's reflective of a wider theme.
-
It's easy to look at the dollar amounts involved and the lack of relation they have to the reality of the world as lived in by 99.9% of us, but the theme remains the same. These questions could also be asked about buying cars, phones, groceries. Not going any deeper down that rabbit hole for obvious reasons. In the specific example of the NHL labor situation, it can be seen coming a mile away. We'll lose at least half another season to produce another CBA in which the players are bent over. There's the team and then there's the TEAM. I get it, they make a lot of money; but in a capitalist system why they or anyone should be blamed for attempting to increase what they're worth is beyond me.
-
Very much the latter. Edited to reflect the thing I was actually trying to convey as opposed to what my fingers did.
-
Not to be argumentative back, but I think the definition of what constitutes "the pie" is slanted heavily toward the benefit of ownership. Union membership has much more to fear from the union than ownership does, IMO. Look at what's become of the majority of union leadership over the last twenty years.
-
I get how it works. Were the union not completely useless to begin with, McCalciumdeficiency would be used as a bellweather for the union in general. Instead they're willing to settle for less. Not because they have to, but because there's a long history of collusion and outright crimanilty in the NHLPA (ask any old timer about Alan Eggleston). So the rank and file take what they're told they can't get, those lucky few make out like bandits, and ownership everyone over because they can.

Fair enough.

Revenues will rise. Salaries will rise slower thanks to McTakingOneForManagement.
-
The Penguins were an accident (provided you don't believe in conspiracy theories). The Oilers fell ass backwards into McDavid. Their GM is an idiot. Should be fun to watch.
-
Seeing what McDavid got, the pie may well shrink. Sign now.
-
He's been quite poorly advised.
-
Perhaps I'm slanted in my view on this. I've work d both as a member of a union and management in a union shop. As management, I'm clapping my hands delightedly as McDavid devalues the cost of labor by himself. As a union member, I'm finding the mythical mob ties to have him killed (those don't exist and never have existed). Long story short: Pull up the ladde, I'm aboard!"
-
Here's the thing: McClavicle leaving money on the table for the next eight years makes everyone (in the NHLPA) poorer. Nobody makes more. Future contracts are pegged to it. You think you're McChrist, nope. He took less money, so shall you. He's single handily castrated the union for years. In as much as they had balls before, which is doubtful.
-
shhhhhhhh. You'll start a revolution with that thinking.,,
-
Dude...
-
Exactly. They were sold the out and have been bled more over the course of many CBA negotiations by. At first a complicit and later on an incompetent union.

Still: Beaux Yoou. : there is no L.

Keeping the puck is better than defending. Disco didn't believe this. A coach who does will work wonders with this team.
-
Yeah, if Lenny seems like he's going to arbitration, where he'd get more that he's worth because other teams GMs are garbage and give contracts unrelated to reality, get the rid of him. ASAP.
-
You underestimate the benefits of not playing a system in which the only instruction to the D is: "Throw the puck that way as hard as you can!!!!!!!" Extra exclamation marks needed.

2017-18 lineup prediction (the Original Lineup Thread)
Sabel79 replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
Power play, o-zone starts. He'll chip in accordingly. Might hit 20. We've become so inured to the Disco School of Whiteboard-Related Excellence that we forget that spots can be picked regarding certain players, and a good coach knows what spots those are. -
Except that they have to be under the cap before Game 1. LTIR counts against the cap at all points, it allows you to exceed the cap by the total amount of the contracts on LTIR after the season starts.

Were it any other player I'd be on board with your take. You're telling me that the undisputed best player to have hit the league in the last 35 years isn't worth the max, in this messed up communist system in which there's a max? In a system with limited dollars given to athletes with limited shelf lives, the outliers (or, on this case, outlier) not pushing forward the boundaries as far as possible to set the market as high as possible to increase the hand the union has to play at the next CBA negotiation is out of this world short-sighted. Enjoy escrow going up after most of you don't get paid next lockout, most of the union! McDavid got paid up front...
