One of my dogs, who had a catastrophic spinal injury four years ago, and is alive now only because I’m lucky enough to live half an hour away from one of the four places in the US that will even do the required surgery (and doubly lucky that I could afford it), is suddenly having problems with his back legs again... I’m gonna hope for the best but am deathly afraid I’ll be having him put down on Monday... .

If you look at it, those Pittsburgh teams can be looked as as less tanking and more post-Rigas pre-OSP Sabres... which is philosophically no different. Winning was never on the agenda. And the pass given because “they didn’t tank in that season that didn’t happen to win the Crosby lottery” narrative is, a bit pearls for swine, IMHO.

Rusty Staub dude did this morning. He was 72. I'm old enough to have seen him play in person, albeit at the tail end of his second stint with the Mets. By all accounts one of the nicest guys ever to walk the face of the earth, and absolutely beloved by two fan bases (Mets/Expos). Godspeed Le Grand Orange...
