Cool topic. One of my favorite Sabres traditions is the way they hand out jersey numbers. I heard this story about 10 years ago so all the details may not be true, so someone may fill me in, but the Sabres, like some other teams, have Rip Simonick pick a "nascar" number for a unproven player. Once a player proves themselves, they can change to the number they had originally requested. For example, Tim Kennedy held up #13 at his press conference when he first signed, but wore #58 when he first was called up. Myers selected #3 but got #57, though, with his hot start, he felt it was good luck to keep it. I just think it's cool that we make the players earn that jersey. Like, getting a "nascar" number isn't exactly making it. Once you become established, you get to pick your number. I heard Gerbe had picked #19 but Connolly was #19 when he was allowed to switch so he stayed. Not sure what the story is with Ennis. Most players change, but not always. During the Golisano era, they stopped using this method because the high ups (probably Quinn) felt the youth movement would sell more jerseys if guys like Vanek, Roy and Pominville get to pick a number. Like i said, i heard the story about 10 years ago, so i may be off, but that's the basic idea.

Ditto. The team should be pretty stacked. I imagine Cody Hodgson plays there too. Besides that, I usually make it to 1 RIT game, so i'll probably attend 1-2 more then usual. During the last lockout, my buddies and I went to see a London Knights game (Corey Perry and Sabres prospects Dylan Hunter and Adam Dennis). That was cool, at the time, i had high hopes for Hunter and my buddy thought Dennis would become a future #1.... how things changed since that lockout... lol

Thanks. So they'd be a good fit for the Webster rink.

Black announces new 3rd jersey for 2013/14 season

So, Pegula was in Darcy's ear during the draft when he drafted Zack Kassian, Brayden McNabb, Marcus Foligno and Maxime Legault...? C'mon, i realize there is a big hatred towards Darcy Regier here, but let's not make him out to be some kind of a joker who got lucky that some oil tycoon needed to whisper to his ear that he needed to add grit to the roster. -
Current Sabres FO embracing calling the old jerseys "slug"
Two or less replied to LabattBlue's topic in Archive
Why? While i never do wear any of my old jerseys (goathead, butter knife or slug), as they sit in the back of my closet, but i have no problem people wearing them. After all, they are all Sabres jerseys. -
Have not played the demo. But i am pretty excited for this game to come out. Also, Dominik Hasek has been added the the "legends" roster which is pretty cool.

We have as much of a chance of signing Shane Doan as a KHL team did if they decided to offer Doan a contract, just for the sake of offering him a deal and making a headline in a local newspaper. It's pretty clear Doan does NOT want to play in Buffalo. http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/sabres-nhl/article1022846.ece If there was even a slim hope, you know Pegula would force Ted Black and/or Darcy to speak with Doan and his people on a semi-consistent basis. http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2012/08/27/penguins-gm-doan-has-made-it-clear-he-wants-to-stay-in-phoenix/ Pens also losing hope. But from sounds of it, Doan and them are actually speaking. Doan used us for the contract terms, nothing more, nothing less. Time to move on.

I see what you're saying but theres a massive difference between the two. Red Sox owners are financial troubles right now because of their purchase of Liverpool, a soccer team in England, and they spend tons of $$$ on players last summer which all became busts. The amount of money they allocate to finance the Red Sox has gotten much smaller, and with the currently deals, the Red Sox were pretty handcuffed for a while. So, trading away contracts, will give them freedom to operate on deals and improve the roster, until Liverpool starts making money again and they can once again become big spenders with no limits. The Sabres, Pegula is rich and isn't worried about losing money. Even if Regier is fired, the new GM will be forced to rebuild/fix the mess on the run. I don't see Pegula's teams going into a rebuilding mode anytime soon. We spend big bucks last summer on Regehr, Ehrhoff and Leino, and this year we had offers on Parise, Suter and now Doan.

Thanks, i'm in. All we now need is hockey.

A friend of mine who lives in Germany, who knows my passion for the Sabres, always tells me whenever something is written about us in the papers over there. Not any kind of big news, but, apparently, Christian Ehrhoff has told a newspaper (RP) over there that in case of a lockout, he will play in the DEL for the Krefeld Pinguine. Also, Ehrhoff doesn't expect to come to Buffalo until the the CBA is made. He will remain in Germany during the whole process.

Yeah, I mean, Bucky Gleason pretty much said so much... on August 4th.. http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/columns/bucky-gleason/article986520.ece

Because it has become a numbers game, i don't think McNabb can even "earn" a spot so to speak to make the opening night roster. If he does make it from camp, it will be because he was a dominate player and there was no way Ruff could send him down. Just simply outplaying Mike Weber or TJ Brennan will not land him a spot in Buffalo out of camp.

Dreger is the best at getting info out, but his stuff is almost always fact. He rarely posts rumors. For example, a legit rumor in my mind is CBC Elliotte Freidman saying Sabres had offers for Parise and Suter. We don't know if they did or not. Therefore, it's a rumor. Somebody (agent or someone within the Sabres) could of misheard and told him that as fact but it wasn't true. Or maybe it was true? Rumors are fun, as long as you don't get carried away and start reading sites like Eklund and hockeyyinsiderr. The truth sometimes is boring, so rumors make it fun to think about what goes on in the heads of the masterminds in the Sabres organization.

Soccer (Football) ~ Everything About The Beautiful Game
Two or less replied to Sabres Fan in NS's topic in The Aud Club
Sweet! Thanks! Very simple league, all for fun. Feel free to join, even if you lose interest midway through. Never know, you could learn a thing. Slim, but Mexico is missing some big guns, as is USA. Should be solid game but i'd guess 2-0 for Mexico. -

Figured this article would fit in this thread. NHL Center Ice if theres a lockout... http://www.ontheforecheck.com/2012/8/10/3234275/nhl-center-ice-lockout-2012-cba As for the actual topic, i had NHL Center Ice on time warner for 4 years, and NHL GameCenter Live last season. While, most positives go to GC Live, you get to pick games quickly, you get a scoreboard of all games, when a goal is scored, you can switch to it and see the goal as you can "rewind" 30 seconds prior to the goal. Every game is avail in home and away feeds, so if you have a good computer, it looks great. I also have a IPAD and they have a great app for it. I can travel anywhere and still watch the Sabres. Very cool. I really loved everything about GC Live except..... transmissions from Canadian broadcasts (TSN, CBC) did not air intermission reports. So, unless you have NHL Network at home, you will NOT see Coach's Corner, or Hockey Hotstove on CBC Hockey Night in Canada, or any of the TSN intermission reports with Dreger giving inside info and such. Not sure why, but Sportsnet did have intermissions available, as did all US networks.

Well, technically speaking, the official sign ups for the leagues are not even open yet... lol ;)

Of course im in.

Not to give Eklund any credit because i doubt theres any truth to any of his "rumors" but I do remember reading some credible writer last deadline day speculate that Sabres and Oilers were working on a deal involving Drew Stafford. Nothing obviously happened, and most people blew the rumor off as BS and said Stafford was involved only because his uncle works there, but who knows, maybe there was truth to that and Stafford is involved too?

wow.

So basically, you can't name me 1. Cool.

LOL please tell me which ones. It's not growing. All i listed was facts. I am not saying to destroy the womens game from the Olympics, it just isn't a good event to have right at this time. If it will or will not get renewed, i don't know, and neither do you. But, theres a lot of chatter about kicking the women out. There are other solutions to fixing the womens game, i pro women and them having a area to play at and see who's best, and help the sport grow. The sport is too thin, lacks interest, and has zero financial support beyond the US, in which it is PAID by the USSF, which gets money from the mens side.
