Im skeptical too, but i'm at a point right now with the Sabres where i think i would believe anything. ... is this how the Bills drought felt after 6 years?
-
If we lost the lottery, we can still maybe draft Makar if Miro is the first d-men off the board. While i understand trading down and adding assets, we have two second round picks and two third round picks in already what is considered a weak draft so i'm not so sure if it makes much sense to trade down. If anything, they could try to move up a few slots and try to get someone who might just not make it to our pick.

Hagel wouldn't make it above Fasching or Borgen? I like both of them but Hagel seems to have really taken that next step this past season.

Who's on your ignore list? lol

This thread has taken a wild turn i don't think anyone expected. Welcome Torosays and keep on telling us info. Bills always have a insider on what seems every forum. I always wondered why no Sabres board ever has had any insiders? Too hard to tell if we're being trolled without any evidence of him knowing what he's talking about though.

Watch he signs with Edmonton and becomes a linemate for McDavid....

I don't think I'd want him but I wouldn't rule out him having us on his list of teams he would go to if he doesn't return to NJ because a lot of Russian forwards idolized Alex Mogilny.

Yes and that's my point. The article posted about why to stay away from Lombardi insist he's a dinosaur because he has guys such as Kyle Clifford in the lineup and those types are no longer successful in the NHL, while a successful team like Toronto has several guys like that.
-
I'm not the biggest fan of Lombardi but I think people criticize him too much for the big and heavy mindset. I think many NHL teams, even successful ones in today's league think like that too. For example, the Leafs have a good mix of speed and youth but also employ guys like Matt Martin, Eric Fehr, Hyman and on defense Carrick and Polak to name a few. Carrick and Polak are old school defensmen.

This is interesting. I don't know much about what Schoenfeld has done in terms of scouting and what deals he was responsible for but he's been around a very long time from player to coach to front office and must know a lot of people. Like most of these guys, it'll be who they surround themselves with that will count for a lot. I wonder if he'd bring back Don Luce to head scouting? I also love the idea of Housley as coach.

Sabres president of hockey ops — I'm calling it (again)

John Wawrow says Pegula's are going solo. There will be no czar. -
I'm all for Drury to be GM but he needs to be situatated with a strong front office. All of the successful teams who have gone that route fill their front office pretty well. Toronto has Shanahan, Lou, Hunter and hired that stat geek nerd. Tampa has Yzerman but he gets a lot of help from BriseBois. The Kings recently hired Rob Blake but have Robitaille looking over everything and they've promoted Futa (who we interviewed when we looked for GMs) to be Blake's right hand man. I'm not afraid of a first time GM but he will need a lot of help, with proven people around him and guys who have scouted and dealt with the cap before.

Hockey has come a long way and for that we should be thankful for NBC. But their presentation is awful. The studio shows are almost unwatchable.

That's the thing. If not Bylsma, then who? I also don't think Ruff would be a good idea, although, i wonder if he gets passed up by the remaining teams, if Pegulas would bring him in as in a advisor role? That's for another time though. The guy i have wanted is Sheldon Keefe. But, if Murray is granted permission to hire another coach, i highly doubt he would be willing to put his name down for a guy with no experience. So, i'm always felt if they did pull the trigger, it would likely be someone with previous coaching experience. Although, the links to David Quinn are intriguing, so who knows.

Kassian trade paying big dividends right now for Oilers...

Agreed, i wasn't saying to pick him with our pick. Was just stating ive liked him. Def not worth a top-8 pick. If he drops a bit they could see to trade back into the first round. We have two second round picks and two third round picks. But yeah, i would think we miss out on him.

Gotta have him put in a good word for us to Cal Petersen.

I have the same feeling, unfortunately. I do wonder how will we find about he's staying? Through a media source? Will the team make a announcement? Seems kinda odd to make an announcement to say you're keeping a guy who has three years left on his deal, and even they keep him, i'm sure they would try to never let him know they discussed his departure. Will we be sitting here on Friday night still just wondering... ?

I've been liking Hague for much of this season as well. I think the big worry about him is many scouts think he just might be a one dimensional player - a shot down guy. He reminds me of a Colton Parayko though. If he can produce with his big shot, even if just on the PP, he could be a major force because in his own end he's a monster.
-
My thoughts exactly. At first i thought they were protecting him from when the Sabres fire Bylsma all the attention wouldn't be on "Jack got DD fired". I've been following this all day and i honestly don't know what to think. The initial report seems shady though. First of all, the part about Eichel not wanting to return was the biggest thing in his piece, but it wasn't in the title nor was it anywhere except the bottom of the article. Just seems odd to me to sit on a major story like that and just throw it out late in a article on the day Murray was meeting the Pegulas. Second, he has one year left on his deal and then we have his rights for next 4 years. I highly doubt Eichel will want to play in the KHL or the newly formed Chinese league, as the only leagues who are able to afford him. He's kinda stuck here.

Yeah but we traded him to Calgary. Montreal got him off waivers. -
Update: Sabres sign D Man Viktor Antipin to 1yr ELC

Why not? He's been a stud in Russia for years now and does well in international competitions. Players translate pretty well from KHL to NHL. Not saying he'll be as good as he's there or a top pairing minutes eater but I'd be surprised if he wasn't a strong second pair guy. -
What made him go over the top? Sabres losing?
