Since when has that been an issue? :D I kid, I kid............. Don't take offense........ ;) Thanks, I'll be sure to read this later.

You're right, the 2020 games look like they're going to be great. I just hope the 2018 Winter Games aren't a bust. I'm hearing they're going to have some serious issues with lack of snow. I wish they'd hold those Games in true winter nations.

I get a kick out of the fact that people try to make it look like this is an issue about cops killing people, but when the victim is white they just sweep it under the rug.

Let's see how much TV time this gets. #deaflivesmatter https://twitter.com/AshevilleNews/status/767561255087443968

I really don't know what to say. And people want to blame cell phones for the lack of any sort of constructive face-to-face interactions. It's gotten to the point where people won't even talk to each other any more, because of fear of how others will interpret your words. I'm shaking my head.................... I had to double check the source because at first I thought this was a joke. Don't 'stand and be recognized'? If I mention color in a conversation, I'm a racist....... now if I "don't see color", it's racist?

Haha, just saying, that's one thing that irks me when I see it on TV. I understand they can't say certain words, but when they use some offensive words in a non-offensive context (for instance a news story and they say 'n-word' or 'f-word') I don't understand what the issue is. It's part of the story. It's relevant to the discussion/news story. Nobody's trying to offend anybody, just trying to get the point across.
-
I really don't think we need to censor our own words here. There is context, nobody is calling anybody an offensive word. It is part of the conversation. I think everybody here realizes there isn't any name-calling going on.

It's an overshot waterfall. But beautiful, nonetheless.

Annemiek van Vleuten is back on the bike. Posts her first trip on Strava. https://www.washingtonpost.com/pb/olympics/2016/live-updates/rio-games/scores-and-latest-news/dutch-cyclist-flips-bike-suffers-horrific-crash-in-olympic-road-race/

Upper Whitewater Falls, NC. The upper portion is 410'.

I remember now. Cool! You're going to love it. You're right, it's a nice happy medium of several different types of bikes. A good utility bike, can hit the trails, can hit the streets, can cruise the city hitting curbs.............. If you need room for the briefcase and clothes, check out some of the small panniers.

Funny how that works.

This isn't about whether or not I accept it and move on. This was a generalized thread about the issue of political correctness. And nowhere have I said I'm not willing to move on and accept it. I asked WHY we have to keep coming up with new labels and then get criticized for not using simply because there are more important things to worry about? As much as might want to believe it, this doesn't apply to EVERYONE ELSE. A good chunk of America is sick of the political correctness in that it has crossed the line from legit to petty. Even many liberals (which is where the vast majority of political correctness comes from) are starting to say this needs to stop. When you can't keep up with it, something has to give. I think it's funny that you're lecturing me about being more tolerant and empathetic, and turn around and call me a patsy and a jerk. Ya know, I'm gonna scratch that one. The irony should be obvious.

The point about intersex and hermaphrodite is moot, because it was stated that the term hermaphrodite was considered offensive. The term intersex at this point is irrelevant. This is why I asked you to expand because you seem to be linking the two together. Human hermaphroditism does exist, if it matters. You're right, it isn't the same as other species who are naturally hermaphroditic.
-
Did I say something to offend you?
-
Perhaps that was overboard. But where do we draw the line? That was one of my initial questions. Can you expand on this? I don't see where this is going.
-
I think people with herpes need to stand up and be heard.
-
Retarded is an adjective, not a scientific term.
-
In a way, it does matter. Because when people start taking offense to a scientific term (regardless of the similarities to intersex) how are people supposed to gauge what might be considered offensive any more? What's next, days of the week? Shirt colors? That might sound excessive, but at some point so did scientific terms.
-
The comment was made that many people find the term hermaphrodite offensive. I thought that was a reach. Do non-hermaphrodites find it offensive? If not, is it only the hermaphrodites that find it offensive? How many hermaphrodites really find the term offensive? I questioned the integrity of that post because I find it hard to believe. I don't have an issue with newfound words. I have a hard time figuring out why there is such a necessity to label everybody.
-
1) I was told that 'intersex' is the new inoffensive term for hermaphrodite. I wasn't aware scientific terms were offensive. 2) I agree. If there is malicious intent, then we can start talking about being offensive. 3) I think there is a difference between an unwillingness to accept, and an unwillingness to keep up. I'm not unwilling to accept those who identify however they choose. That's up to them, and if it makes them happy, good for them. It's just not fair to call me ignorant because I don't know what to call you. Why do we have to have a label for everybody?
-
I've grown tired of that word myself. We've nailed it perfectly. There is a difference between calling somebody a racial, sexual or any other miscellaneous slur with malicious intent, and not being caught up on the daily label. I was labeled ignorant by a poster because of this, and then went on to tell me I need to be more tolerant and empathetic. Which is ironic in itself.
