  2. So who's going to start the 'Fire Murray' thread?
  3. LOL @ Lou https://twitter.com/strombone1/status/851220974569697280?s=03
  4. Like I said, you can't compare success vs. salary cap in the cap era. There is zero correlation between total points and total cap hit. Three of the top six didn't even make the playoffs. The Sabres have five contracts that can be considered "bad". Ennis, Moulson, Gorges, Kulikov and Bogosian. Moulson isn't as bad as you think, he lead the team in power play goals. Kulikov would have been worth it had he not been injured the entire year. Gorges was worth it when he was traded here. Ennis got his contract when he was healthy and productive, Murray couldn't have predicted concussions. Every team has bad contracts, I'm not going to go team by team to prove it to you to give you supporting evidence. But you have to be foolish to think there is one single team in the league that has the perfect payroll. I'm not defending Murray, if anything I'm starting to lose faith if he doesn't fire Goober. But, on a team that has more problems than I can count, cap space is the very least of anybody's concerns. The current cap situation has no bearing on how this year turned out, and it has no bearing moving forward. It's a moot point.
  5. I have to disagree. There are four contracts on this team that are bad (and two of them arguably weren't when they were either traded here, or extended while here). There are far more than four bargain contracts on this team. And if you looked at every team's roster, chances are the +/- on the majority of teams is above four. Just my opinion, take it for what it's worth. Every GM has, or will have to deal with ridding themselves of a bad contract or two in the offseason simply because nobody can predict the future. It's the nature of the cap era game.
  6. I think we just need a little time and space. If we can keep things simple, hold each other accountable, things will be right back in our wheelhouse.
  7. When he got here he was just as good as he was in Montreal. Fans are just more critical of their team's players when they don't fill this exaggerated mold they had of them before they got here.
  8. Semantics....... Your point was the same so my reply stands. And in this day and age where teams overpay in off years and take on salary, and top teams over play their stars and hope their bargain ayers can keep up........ Comparing cap space by team vs their record is useless.
  9. And say what you want about Moulson, but he was the #1 power play guy on the team and if it weren't for the power play and goaltending this year the team would have been eliminated from playoff contention a month sooner. Kane didn't play up to his contract level? Ristolainen? Okposo? O'Reilly? McCabe? You need to look around because most teams have as many bad contracts as the Sabres do. If not more. I'm as upset as the next fan, but you let your agenda really cloud your judgement in many threads. There was nothing more Murray could have done that cap space prevented him from doing during last off-season. It's a moot point.
  10. Absolutely. But that isn't the point of this thread. Murray couldn't foresee Ennis getting concussions. Murray didn't give Gorges a contract and he was more worth it when he was traded here. Their total cap hit has nothing to do with how this team finished.
  11. The team isn't in cap trouble. I don't see the issue.
  12. Hey Tim, how was that win-loss record when the team got healthy? Yeah, I thought so............................... If your team finishes 17 points out of the playoffs when your star players didn't really miss that many games in the grand scheme of things, then you don't have what it takes to be a contender. Maybe you're the problem. You've got your cushy long term deal, you have the benefit of dragging this out as long as you want. I'm starting to think you might need to go. If you fired Goober, and when the Sabres don't make the playoffs next year then we all know you're the problems. By holding on to Goober, then you can fire him halfway through next year and give yourself another year of job security. Well played. Perhaps getting that contract extension was the worst thing for this team.
  13. Watch me..........
  14. Agreed. If the team is this bad because Eichel missed 20 games, and a couple of other top 6 guys missed 10-15 then there are much bigger problems to deal with. This team will never be a contender if they can't even get within 17 points of a playoff spot because of some injuries. Every team gets hurt, nobody in the organization should be using is as an excuse.
  15. Holtby just got his head crushed into the goal post. Can somebody tell me why he's even dressed, much less starting?
  16. I wouldn't mind seeing a picture of him catching a cab after they hauled his luggage off the team bus.
  17. Finishing dead last AFTER Kane, Eichel and O'Reilly came back from injuries (when at one point they were within 4 points of a playoff spot)....................... does this mean the injury narrative isn't going to work? Or are they still going to try and ride it as long as it will last?
  18. You could be right, I'm just going off of stats. I just like Nilsson, he's pretty consistent and very calm in net.
  19. He's been keeping his head on a swivel, with a little more time and space, this job will literally be right in his wheelhouse.
  20. If Lehner gets hurt next year, I don't want the season to be riding on the shoulders of either one of those guys. Peterson has zero experience, and Ullmark hasn't been tearing up the AHL. I think Nilsson is a much better alternative at this point. Just my two cents.
  21. Murray would be foolish to not try to sign Nilsson next year.
  22. I like Duff's tie.
  23. Buffalo scored? Somebody should tell Dunleavy.
