I have to agree with this to a point. Nobody has any proof that Pegula isn't doing his best to win a Cup, it's just another reason to bitch. Regier hasn't had much opportunity to do what he wants until recently. The point I disagree with is the part about going after players right when Pegula took over and it obviously being a bad idea. That's all hindsight because to anybody it made sense at the time. Any other GM would have done the same. Wow, first it's Pegula isn't transparent enough now he's too transparent and he's making all the decisions and Darcy is only a puppet. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. BTW, this second part is separate from the first, I really wish new posts were separate.

See my last post.

You are obviously uninformed about the Panthers so I'll give you a pass. I never said they were a foundation, I said they were something to rebuild with in comparison to the Panthers who are a prime example of a complete overhaul. And yes, to a point I think we disagree with the players I mentioned because Ennis, Enroth, Hodgson and McNabb (we still haven't seen enough to know) are players that can and will be an important part of a team. Your hesitance to agree stems from thinking that every player in the league is better than your team's players.
-
Ennis, Hodgson, Foligno, Gerbe, Enroth, Flynn, Pysyk, McNabb......... the Panthers didn't have any of that. All they had was a legitimate bunch of fill ins to win the division last year while they went through the process of building the new team. They'll be playoff contenders next year. The Sabres have something to rebuild with. A ton of draft picks this year, maybe even more on the way, I don't see how people think this is a 5 year in the basement plan. I don't think they will be any worse than they were this year and they were in the hunt up until the last 2 weeks.
-
Most teams that make a 3-5 year turnaround don't already have a group of young players all ready to step in. The first part of a major rebuild is already done. I've seen Tallon completely dismantle the Panthers from top to bottom and they're going to be good enough to make a run for the playoffs next year and only going to get better. My god, the sky isn't falling. How anybody can blame Darcy for all the years under Golisano is beyond me. He's never had the opportunity to rebuild a team AND possibly spend some $$ for immediate help at the same time.
-
Why do people think Pegula needs to be available at all hours to answer questions? What makes people think that this is going to be a 5 year plummet into the basement? What makes people think Pegula isn't determined to turn this into a winner? Darcy hasn't really had the opportunity to rebuild, and nobody can honestly say they didn't think Sabres weren't going to be a contender with a couple of well placed moves thereby pushing the rebuild year to this point. The sky is not falling, sometimes I think people in BFLO live off of doom & gloom.

There is no wrong time to win.
-
Absolutely! I'm considering writing the TBN and offering my opinions of their employees. Those two are an embarrassment to journalism and to the BFLO community. Of course that is my opinion.
-
I agree. Unfortunately they get the majority of the time. They give the BFLO media a bad name. No doubt.
-
Sullivan is a classless ######. Black is a pro. I wouldn't have the patience to deal with this pathetic BFLO media.

Yes, you're right. You did give a legitimate response. I apologize. ;) My point was, after 12 pages and a large percentage of the board regulars chiming in, I would think there would have been more support and some valid points. However the turnout has been weak.

-Have you watched any of the games? -Other goaltenders couldn't make it so that means Enroth can't. -He went 13 months without winning a game (even though he didn't play for 9 months). -He lost games during the worst stretch in team history (even though his save percentage was .92+ during that stretch. -Miller is better because he has a higher save percentage in 5 on 5 situations from shots from the point on Monday nights when the team play index is over 4. It's page 12 and I'm still waiting for a legitimate answer to your questions. What do Doug Flutie and Jhonas Enroth both have in common? Nobody ever gave them any credit because they were too small, yet they both carried their teams to their last playoff appearance.

I think Ott really wants to stay in BFLO I'm sure at 30 he doesn't want it to be a long rebuild either. But I think Ott realizes that Vanek needs to be a part of this team long term if this rebuild is going to be short term. Towards the end of the season I heard Ott make a couple of references to Vanek being 'our' leader and I'm wondering if he is implying that the Sabres need to make him a captain and that it's his team moving forward perhaps increasing his chances of wanting to stay here for the rest of his career. As far as leaders, I think character guys are just as important as leaders. Guys like John Scott need to be re-signed. He may not bring much to the table, but I think he realizes that he's not going to play every game and is OK with it. Now that guys like Ott and Scott have become established with the team, it's important that they stay here. You don't just create a character core during an offseason, it takes a season for them to gel. Not giving Ott an extension and not re-signing Scott would put this team another step back and they might be the ones to help convince Vanek to want to stay.

I was hoping to get one more year out of him. A class act, most of the team could learn something from him about being a consistent player. Best of luck to him.
-
Being an RFA now, I'll be curious to see what kind of contract he gets.
-
Yes I did miss that part, I apologize. I got the impression you were telling me to subscribe. You're not the only one who has mentioned advanced stats though. The others can feel free to chime in, until then I'll stick with overall numbers.
-
I can't read your mind, obviously you have a particular stat, or stats, in mind that says Miller is better than Enroth. Advanced stats aren't a part of NHL numbers so they are made up by those who are looking for a means to prove their favorite player is better. It's pretty much standard procedure when somebody lays down a claim to provide evidence to support said claim. You don't claim something and then tell the other person to look it up themselves. All you're doing now is hanging by a thread. We've gone 12 pages and so far the best defense of Miller has been Enroth is too small, 'you don't understand the advanced stats that I haven't provided', and 'have you seen the games'? I can't mock what I cannot see. Analytics is a part of what I do for a living. Try me. So far you're just stalling.
-
I watched every single game. I keep asking why Miller is so much better than Enroth and in 11 pages all we've got is Enroth is too small and can't handle 50 games because somebody else couldn't. You're right, after all these posts you'd think there would be something substantial in return.
-
All I did was give you the opportunity to prove your case with facts, and so far you have failed to do so. I have however backed up my case with cold hard facts. If you're going to cherry pick a stat about Miller being better stopping pucks from the point of Mondays with a team effort index over 6 with blue underwear on, you need to post it so we can debate it.
-
It does however prove my case that save percentages have increased. A relevant stat when comparing overall save percentages with guys who haven't played in years.
-
It's all good, because with the exception of the ones 38 made up, I still haven't seen any posted. It would seem to me after 11 pages that it would be relevant to support the theories that Miller is so much better than Enroth the last two years. ;) It does matter, save percentages are higher than they have ever been. You need to consider that when comparing apples to oranges. Here we are applying advanced stats to find some way to make Miller look better, but when a big one like overall save percentage comes up, it doesn't matter? Why? http://www.quanthockey.com/TS/TS_SavePercentage.php
-
Who else is on that list and what was the average save percentage in those times? About those advanced stats...........
-
What do you put stock in because it doesn't seem to be anything that makes Miller look bad. Coulda, woulda, shoulda, but didn't.

Difference being, there will be changes this year. I think a stretch like that was expected the last two years. This one, not so much. It's going to be an interesting off-season, hold on for a ride.
