  1. It is used every day down here, and more often than not it ends up being beneficial. This case never should have made national news, much less the national media circus it turned into. I think the jury made the right call. Are there certain cases where somebody abused the law and got away with it? SInce 2005 I'm sure it has occurred. But many more lives have been saved, and many crimes have not been carried out because the perpetrator thought twice before getting themselves shot.
  2. Like our 'Stand-your-ground' law or not, ALL violent crimes have gone down significantly in this state since 2005.
  3. Haha, I hear ya. Like the guy or not, I just thought the similarity was eery. Very eery. To make it even better, their first teams were both with the Red Wings. Hmmmmmmmm.........
  4. I seem to remember another undrafted European that didn't make his NHL debut until his mid 20's and was given too much money by the Sabres based on a short stretch of good games. I can't quite put my finger on who it was.
  5. It might, but I hope not. :censored:
  6. Kovalchuk announces his retirement from the NHL?!?! :o Tom Gulitti ‏@TGfireandice 3m Ilya Kovalchuk has announced his retirement. This is not a fake. Retweeted by Greg Wyshynski
  7. Nobody?
  8. If exploiting the system is so easy, how come all the rest of the average teams didn't do it?
  9. Probably end up scoring more goals than Stafford.
  10. I'm sure they all sat down the day after they signed the new CBA to figure out all loopholes. I know that doesn't answer your question, sorry.
  11. I would guess it applies to standard buyouts as well. Not sure if it's another loophole. Based on the last sentence in this paragraph, it almost looks like the GM's are saving their butts in not having to pay out if the player gets bought out. So yeah, what you said makes sense. With another compliance buyout left, it's the GM's way of making sure they don't slack after signing the big contract knowing if they play poorly enough they will get bought out next year and make some $$. Looks more like a guaranty to the GM's that they'll actually perform. Signing bonuses can affect buyout amounts depending on the language of the contract. Vincent Lecavalier's 2009-2020 contract, for example, specified "non-refundable" signing bonuses, meaning he received them in addition to his 2013 compliance buyout payments. Other contracts specify that the signing bonuses are contingent upon the player fulfilling the contract.

  13. I think Darcy probably wanted to sign him if Miller got traded, but he probably gave him the opportunity to move on not knowing what was going to happen with Miller. -------------------------------------------------------------------- I'd like to go after Peter Mueller.
  14. This coming from the guy who just said in the Tallinder thread that the Sabres should strip the roster of all veteran D-Men and have all the kids just wing it. At least you're consistent.
  15. The only way to make BFLO a hot spot is to build a winning team with a bright future. The WRONG way to do that, as has been noted with the free agency market over the last couple of years, is by overpaying for mediocre players and getting yourself in cap trouble. The RIGHT way to do it is through trades and the draft. The Sabres have had very positive drafts over the last couple of years, Darcy's trades have gobe BFLO's way, and he most likely isn't done yet. Patience is a virtue. The free agency market for now is not benefitting teams that have to rebuild.
  16. I just went outside........ nope, the sky isn't falling.
  17. So what's the deal with the signing bonuses? Is there something they're trying to circumvent on the new CBA? The cap hit remains the same for all years, does it have something to do with taxes? CapGeek ‏@capgeek 5m #Leafs Tyler Bozak will also be paid heavily in signing bonuses: $10M of his $21M contract. http://www.capgeek.com/player/739 CapGeek ‏@capgeek 10m A whopping $27.75M of #Leafs David Clarkson's $36.75M contract will be paid out in signing bonuses.Unique structure. http://www.capgeek.com/player/780
  18. Had to pick up Roy to fill Oshie's spot for when they trade him to BFLO for Miller.
  19. Where do you come up with 5 D-men? I count 7 roster players and 4 more non-roster (McNabb, Leduc, Mckenzie, Bagnall............ according to Capgeek).
  20. Anybody who is bitching about Sulzer ever stop to realize that if prospects come up they need to be replaced in Rochester? If there are 4-5 guys that can be sent down it leaves the option open to see who is most deserving of staying with the Sabres, instead of planning on certain guys and if they don't pan out, then you're screwed? I really didn't see anything glaringly wrong with Sulzer, but it seems like the fans love to think players with the lowest contracts need to be the superstars carrying the team a la Gerbe and Hecht. At least Sulzer was racking up some points that our forwards weren't.
  21. I wouldn't do it.
  22. It was a weak field, inflated contracts galore.
  23. Is this fact?
  24. I never said where. :P
  25. Bruins are 8 mil under the cap without Rask and Iginla. Somebody's getting traded.........
