  1. I've been saying all along this was going to be their year to let the kids take over, and my prediction was that they would be around #8 come season end? Nobody saw new ownership coming. Tallon has had his plan all along, I don't know if it has been upended by the new owner. But up until now they have been a goaltender away from being around #8. Markstrom wasn't Tallon's draft pick. It seems to me like the new owners aren't giving Tallon any space.
  2. Tallon is feeling the pressure from the new owner(s). I wonder if he's doing this because he knows he finally has the freedom to go crazy, or if he was concerned about his own job. Panthers need to make a couple of tweaks to the lineup, they have a lot of youth on the roster. But so far goaltending has been the main concern, it's been atrocious this year. If they had average goaltending they would be on the playoff bump and this might not have happened.
  3. Laviolette to Florida?????? is this thread appropriate for rumors?
  4. He was going to get benched twice in the last couple of weeks, had it not been for two last minute injury scratches. Dineen isn't happy with him, he's been giving up on plays the last few games. One was an Edmonton goal last night.
  5. Yeah, I shouldn't have said stars. Probably more along the line of their early draft picks over the last 4-5 years. Too much youth, not enough QUALITY veterans. Boyes has 5 goals, but his stats are deceiving.
  6. You're probably right, not with us. But I see him dealing one of his young stars. New owner is making his presence felt along with the minority owner. They're not going to be as patient, they had a closed door management meeting after the game last night.
  7. Look for Tallon to be making some moves, soon.
  8. Don't know, I was saying he could be great if he matured. But he hasn't. This was his chance to prove it with Thomas out, he hasn't been doing it. Not contenders, not this year. But goaltending could get them a playoff spot. With a decent goaltender they'd be in the 14-15 point range right now.
  9. Two Oilers just scored their first career goal in a 33 second span. That has to be some kind of record. Panthers need goaltending in a HUGE way, Markstrom isn't going to make it past this season.
  10. Ahhhhh, the next step in eliminating hits and fighting in hockey. They respond to the Emery-Holtby fight with a knee jerk reaction and now want to penalize it altogether. Do they really not see the whole point was the fact that Holtby was a non-willing participant? Penalize those that go after innocent players. This has nothing to do with what position they play.
  11. Yeah, what's the deal with Flynn. I figured he'd be more NFL ready than Teul. Or Thadeus for that matter.
  12. Good piece written by Brian Burke about fighting in the NHL. Didn't think it needed it's own thread so I'll stick it here. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nhl/2013/10/30/pro-fighting-column/3320245/
  13. I hope. I agree with most of that, except that a total rebuild from the ground up still requires having several veterans in the lineup. Why wait for another Moulson to come around when he's already here? It would make one less thing to worry about for Darcy.
  14. From what I've gathered he didn't play with Tavares his first 30 goal season, and part of his second. I don't know where I read it, one was a forum discussion on another board, one was a Tweet. Take it for what it's worth, I just don't see him going from 32 goals a year average to 15.
  15. He should get a nice raise. BFLO might be the right place for him to get the biggest raise. After all, most of us are in agreement that it might take more $$ to attract UFA's to this team in the near future. What better time than when you're not cap strapped? The Sabres are already going into their (arguably) third year of a rebuild. It's not like we're looking at 2018 as a possible year of contention. Moulson will be 30 tomorrow, not like he will be 38 when this team is good again. He could help keep them entertaining in the meantime. Of course if he doesn't want to stay here, then it's a moot point. But we're not assuming that or else we'd have nothing to talk about. ;)
  16. You're right, it doesn't. That roster was temporary for one season. But it doesn't prove that signing veteran UFA's sends the wrong message. If anything Tallon wasn't even planning on making the playoffs so as it turns out, signing a bunch of low to mid $$ UFA's can turn out better than planned.
  17. Sorry, misread your post the first time. Yeah, that OT game was tough to stomach. I edited my post because I totally misread his. Yes I do, what does that have to do with sending a wrong message by signing a bunch of veteran UFA's?
  18. So here we have a dedicated player who is a hard working blue collar kind of guy, since he's had to prove himself through every step of his career. A player that gets in front of the net and gets most of his goals in close. A consistent 30+ goal scorer (who hasn't been with Tavares for all of those 30+ goal years) and could be had for a reasonably low price. Not to mention all the talk about hitting the cap floor if/when Stafford and Miller are eliminated from this roster, on top of the fact we got a 1st and 2nd round to boot. Isn't he exactly the kind of player Sabres fans have been dying for for years? Am I missing something? I just don't get it.
  19. Why is everybody so obsessed with dealing Moulson? There is such a thing as having too many picks and not enough veterans. Yes, I know re-signing is the issue. How many are open to keeping him if he re-signs?
  20. Panthers got a division title out of it.
  21. Can the forum be set up so that there is no post merging? It makes it difficult to get points across when there is more than one point being offered.
  22. That really is completely besides the point. But OK.
  23. I'm going to have to disagree. Miller is exactly what Tallon is looking for. A proven starter with 3-4 years still in the tank to give them enough time to develop a future starter. Thomas is too old and likely won't make it through the year and Markstrom isn't panning out. Tallon has already said that he's willing to deal, I don't think missing the playoffs this year is acceptable to him. They would already have 5-6 more points with a proven goaltender. Whether Florida is on the 'list' is just speculation. But the fact that Miller is going to be a UFA might be a concern to Tallon however. I doubt Miller will be able to make it to the west coast to be with his wife. If he wants out of BFLO, he may be forced to be less picky. I guess I do agree to a point, since you based it on the fact he might just be a rental player.
