I agree, Miller is a valuable asset. Here is how I see it. Quality of goaltenders have tightened up significantly over the last 10-15 years. Save percentages are closer than ever. Not to mention the fact that teams have focused more on a style of play that will get pucks in the net simply by deflections, lucky bounces and rebounds. Hard shots, fancy plays and skilled set ups are not as big a part of the game as it once was. Goaltenders are just like everybody else in that they go on hot and cold streaks. No matter how good you are, it's part of sports. It's no secret that having a good goaltender is important in having a successful year. Over the course of 82 games those hot and cold streaks will even themselves out. Based on all of this, an average team with an average goaltender can go deep in the playoffs if the goaltender gets on a hot streak. On the other side, a quality team with an elite goaltender isn't going to get out of the first round if he gets cold. With that said, I have always been a fan of having two goaltenders share the duties and the coach rides the hot goaltender. Is that realistic? No. No goaltender that thinks he is worthy of being #1 will accept playing 40 games. I would love nothing better than to have Miller and Enroth share duties with the hot goaltender getting the playing time. Alas, that will never happen. I have a problem with taking a chance on signing Miller to a long term contract to finish his career here with the impression he will be the go-to guy for the next five years. I've seen him at times seem disinterested in playing for BFLO when things get tough. I do think he is a pretty good goaltender, but I don't see him as being elite enough to spend any significant time to try and convince him to be the #1 guy for the next five years and sign a contract. If the Sabres are looking to move forward, they need to give the impression that the #1 spot is up for grabs.

Can I start? I don't have a full roster off the top of my head. But these three belong on it. Jochen Hecht Patrick Lalime Nathan Gerbe

If it means anything, I would NEVER give Miller for Fleury straight up, much less throw something else into the deal. Something substantial would have to come back to make that deal worth it.

There are people on this thread mocking Enroth's record. Is it fair to hold it against him when Enroth went 0-5-3 during a stretch when the team scored 7 goals? Edit: I made that post before your second reply showed up. (I really wish the powers that be would change that)

That's all well and good, but wins are not indicators of how good a goaltender is. Many average goaltenders have great win percentages, many great goaltenders play on losing teams. It's a poor statistic to gauge the quality of a goaltender no matter how you look at it.
-
I think goaltenders do not win games, they keep from losing them. Goaltenders do not score goals, therefore it is up to the team to get them wins.

If some are so upset by this thread, why do they keep coming back? :P

I meant to reply to this earlier. You didn't have to do my job for me, I knew the answer. Just curious, why is it that .004 difference when Enroth is better, you consider it 'similar', but in an earlier post you made Miller is 'better' with .003 difference? Nevermind, you don't have to answer that. As I said earler, you have missed many of my posts. I have made mention of Miller's consistency, in fact I have praised his consistency several times over the course of my time here on this forum. He is withut a doubt one of the most consistent goaltenders in the league. My issue is with the fact that many give him elite status. Miller is far from elite. I also have an issue with his attitude. Tom doesn't agree with me and I am sure there are others, but that is my own personal opinion. I love the fact that he calls out his teammates when they need to be called out. The problem is, until the Penguins game a couple of years ago when Miller got lambasted which was followed by Pegula comparing him to his daughter, Miller NEVER took the blame. You can call your teammates out, as long as you take responsibility for your own actions. I would love for the rest of the team to have had the balls to call Miller out when needed. Another issue I have is with people taking this so damn seriously. It usually starts off with a civilized conversation, and then some start to take it personally. Usually after they've twisted my words and used it against me. I look forward to seeing Enroth getting a full season next year as well. Hopefully 60 games. It'll put an end to all this nonsense.

As soon as Enroth becomes the starter, he will become the #1 whipping boy. Then every loss will be his fault even if he losses five straight games 1-0. It might be to the board's benefit if Miller stays in BFLO as long as possible.

This coming from the person that thinks 'wins' is the most telling stat for a goaltender?
-
Yes, you're twisting my words. And now you're spinning stats. When I prove you wrong, you just throw out more stats. Damn, only three thousandths. Somebody deserves a raise. I suppose it would be too much to ask to use Miller's first four years as a true comparison since the rookie year has more bearing on the overall save percentage. But that would make Miller look bad. You're still arguing that I think Enroth is so much better than Miller. Until you go back and read my posts, we're done here.
-
Most of what you just said there, I have said the exact same thing.......... repeatedly. Just like every other poster you want to twist my words in order to protect Wonder Boy. His 5v5 stats don't fluctutate much, but as has been pointed out, they aren't that good. He consistently is average to slightly above average for three years. His atttiude sucks. He is part of the core that everybody wanted to eliminate. Read what I have to say for a change and stop twisting my words. We might actually get somewhere. For the record, over the last three years combined, Enroth has a better 5v5 save percentage.

Thank you.

I'm just looking for a substantial case to be put on the table. I never start these threads, I never bring them to the top. Nor do I even mention Miller in GDT's. Hell, I've gotten deragatory private messages from people for simply responding to Miller threads even though I wasn't even the one to start it. Yet for some reason people go into attack mode against me whenever the topic comes up. For a forum that claims to be so analytical, precise and logical, emotion seems to throw all that out the window whenever I ask for specifics and facts.
-
My god you people really take this ###### too seriously.
-
You can guys keep scraping the bottom of that barrel. Eventually you'll find something that sticks simply by chance. That would mean the offense was less productive for Enroth last year, and the year before. Is this the case? Or did Enroth magically become worse during the offseason?

I don't think anybody has said that. -
Miller 1.91 GPG support Enroth 1.53 GPG support Not sure why anybody would use 5v5 goal support as a talking point.......... but OK.

Do they keep him around just for the shock value? It can't possibly be his intellect. -
Can you just admit that it's significantly lower than Miller's? That was the point. I knew the answer.
-
Considering special teams are part of the game, I was looking for overall GPG.
