Anybody in the wester NC/eastern TN/northern GA/northwestern SC area?
JJFIVEOH replied to JJFIVEOH's topic in The Aud Club
1A and 1B. :flirt: Great city. They've made many changes for the good over the last several years. It's a very liberal city, and if you go a half hour west, it's extremely conservative. Very diverse area. Biltmore Village was under water today. I'm above flood plane so I'm good, but the ground is so saturated that there is still flooding in my yard. Supposed to last until mid-Friday. I'm up for it! I'm equidistant between Raleigh and Nashville. I'll do either one. Or, we can have some real fun and go watch the Swamp Rabbits for cheap. -

I'm equidistant from Nashville and Charlotte. I'm up for an early season meet-up at either arena, and get a hotel or airbnb overnight. Or, if you want to see some real fun, the Greenville Swamp Rabbits in ECHL is real big in Greenville. I'm game, anybody else? -
Thanks man. Not sure how much time I'll spend here. Might just come back and post like I used to and just avoid the few that made this place not fun to be here. Tough to get away from here, lots of people I like talking to.

Why couldn't Harrington leave instead?

I have no problem with anybody disagreeing with me. My regret is showing up and immediately getting attacked. This board is very unwelcoming.
-
I'm the only one to leave the board? This place is a ghost town compared to a couple of years ago, and its not because of the Sabres' incompetence. Sorry. And I have read the board, just had absolutely no desire to debate. I already regret jumping back in. I'll be laughing my ass off when Gallant wins the Cup. Have a good night.

Yeah, that must be it.

You guys chase off a lot of people. I called this before the season started.

Doohickie, not sure if you use your phone or a bike computer for your tracking. But have you seen this? I'm thinking about getting one. I've currently got a Bryton 530 which is pretty good but I like new gadgets. https://www.hammerhead.io/pages/karoo

Remember back in the good ole days with Kelly Holcomb when the Bills had an offense?

Although I am one who believes that we should be doing everything in our power to keep this planet clean, I agree with this 100%. Instead of putting so much time and money into expounding global warming, how about we take that time and money and do something about cleaning up toxic third world cesspools. Global warming is debatable, however our rivers, streams and jungles becoming this ↓↓↓↓↓↓ is not. We can adapt to global warming, we can't adapt to destroying our natural resources.
-
And doctors are routinely prescribe people drugs they don't need to be on because they're bought off by pharmaceutical companies. Sorta like how college professors are paid for by US grants to "conclude" there is global warming.............. or sorta like petroleum companies paying for studies to "conclude" that they are clean and have no impact on the environment.

If that's a punishment, I'd love to see the reward.

TBB is right. I hate when people abbreviate words when all it takes is a couple of seconds to type it out, and here I am doing the same thing. You can slap me now.

Let's not forget that many scientific studies that are pro-MMGW are by college professors who are funded by federal grants. The pro and anti MMGW crowds are the most vocal. Unfortunately the scientists that conclude that we have absolutely no way to prove, or disprove, MMGW are the ones you'll never hear about. When, in fact, they are the most correct. And for the record, when Sandy hit NYC, it was an incredible timing of natural coincidences that two major storms collided with one another and demolished an entire region. If it had been simply Tropical Storm Sandy that hit, it would have brought some rain and wind and nobody would have talked about her the next week.

Finally found some video from the Keys. There are a bunch more on his Twitter page. https://twitter.com/ReedTimmerAccu/status/907359180209737728 https://twitter.com/ReedTimmerAccu/status/907327413633286147 https://twitter.com/ReedTimmerAccu/status/907281777131229184 https://twitter.com/ReedTimmerAccu/status/907279118500339712 https://twitter.com/ReedTimmerAccu/status/906849685696020483

I haven't heard anything about the bridges, those things are pretty stout. I do know some of the (THE only major road) was washed away in some spots simply because of the surge and the fact that most of the ground is just sand. But there is a big naval base on Key West, not to mention the countless people who own boats there. So if there are any dire situations, I'm sure they'll be on it. Might take a while to getting everything up to par though.

Naples took quite a hit, especially in the bay area. I've seen pictures of the flooding and it's not pretty. The local news was showing the first pics out of the middle keys and that's not looking good either. I hear Key West got spared, relatively speaking, because Irma came up through the middle keys. Outside of the Islands, the middle Keys and Naples took the hardest hits. I'm hoping for the best for your buddies south of you. It might be a difficult task for help to get to the Keys right now because parts of the road look impassable. But, the people of the Keys know how to survive on their own. I'm sure they'll be OK.

Glad you made out OK. Now that daylight has arrived I've seen the damage and it's not pretty. Nothing catastrophic at all, but a huge mess all around that needs cleaning up. What sucked over here was, we were getting hit by the northeast quadrant of the storm when she slowed down so we were getting winds from the same general direction for almost two days, strong winds for 18 hours. If the wind changed direction we might have had less trees down. But, trees can be replanted, you made out well, I made out well and I'm hoping everybody else did too. I don't envy you, however, you had to sit back and wait knowi go the eye was going to come near you and weren't sure what to expect. That is a helpless feeling that can't pass soon enough. Lots of damage, but when looking back at the predictions of cat 4-5 strength hitting land, we could have had it a lot worse. Neo's right, put it off as long as possible. I've got friends in Fort Myers and they say it's pretty messy right now. If you want to experience a fulfilling vacation, give them some time to get back on their feet.
-
Stay safe, Neo! The winds have "dropped" to 120 so that helps some. But that's not saying much. I've been getting hit for 16 hours straight now, taken out some trees, messed up a ton others, and we aren't getting the winds you'll get. Thankfully, it's picked up forward speed so hopefully you won't be in harms way for long.
-
I'm sorry, I won't let it happen again. If the predictions are to be trusted, I'm sure you'll be grateful to have to live with a cat 3 hurricane over a 4-5 like was initially predicted. You can get through that.

I get a feeling that by tomorrow afternoon-dinner time the projections are going to be completely different. Irma took a dip south into Cuba which they weren't expecting which will throw off the models, not to mention it looks like it's slowed down the last few frames of radar I watched. I think it's going way west, or way east of the current model. But, that's just my semi-educated guess. I'm probably way off. If I'm wrong and it stays this way, stay safe. Don't get too worried just yet, you and I both know how quickly it can change. On a positive note, the dip it took into Cuba delayed the projected landfall by almost a full day so at least we can watch the Bills game.

If anybody's interested in this kind of stuff, I got my father a weather station for Father's Day a while back. You can watch all the live data at this link. That is, until the wind blows it away. https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KFLBOCAR114

Thanks for all the well wishes everybody. Neo, stay safe man. I know you've been through some crazy ones over there, with Charlie and all. It seems like Irma's path keeps shifting a little bit and we've still got a day or two so it could get closer to you, or it could get closer to me. But we both know what to expect. For those who are worried about friends and family down here, they will be OK. Keep in mind the vast majority of homes down here are built to withstand very high winds, most homes are concrete block homes and are built on concrete pads. Roofs are strapped to the frames, and many older homes are low profile concrete houses that are like bomb shelters. Storm surge isn't expected to be too high (relative to the strength of Irma). The coast will see some flooding for sure, but it won't be Houston type flooding. In my opinion, the ones that most at risk are the people in downtown Miami because there is significant construction going on and there are many cranes still up. The media loves to whip people into a frenzy. They change color schemes on radar to make it look like the storm is a 400 mile wide 185MPH storm when in fact hurricane force winds extend out less than 100 miles from the center. Irma is nothing to laugh at, she is a mean bitch. But sensationalism has replaced reality in most cases. Nobody down here is laughing at the moment, or taking this lightly, but many who have been through it all down here knows what to ignore when watching something like the Weather Channel. I've got 2-3 weeks of food, two generators, 30 gallons of gas, truck is filled with 38 gallons of diesel, a couple of UPS...... I'm all set. I stayed for Wilma and watching Mother Nature flex her muscles is quite impressive. We might be without power for a while, we may have lots of trees to clean up. A small handful might lose their roofs. But for the most part everybody will be safe. I went for a motorcycle ride last night and this area is a ghost town. I might take another ride to Fort Lauderdale tonight before things get rough. It's kinda cool (yet eery) to drive around and have all the roads to yourself in an area with 6,000,000+ people within three counties. A couple of places open here and there, but most people are home or have left.
