Well, if you already got tickets, we probably can't get seats together. But we should definitely meet up before/after the game. I don't have definite plans yet, but if/when I do, it'll be an AirBNB downtown somewhere and either dinner before the game at the arena, or downtown.
-
Anybody interested? I might be considering getting an AirBNB for a few days in Raleigh and catching the Sabres game on the 16th. It's preliminary for now, but I'm seriously considering it I used to hit a few games a year in SoFL, but now that I'm not there any longer, Raleigh and Nashville are my only options. And Nashville would cost half a year's salary for a few days of AirBNB and a couple of tickets.

Hell yeah I remember those. That was back in the day when I had no remote and the TV had channels 2,4,7,17 and 29, lol.

At this point, I don't think calling games is a risk to his health. If anything, it may have prolonged his life because for most of his life, it's all he's had to live for. I'm a drag racer and have seen many, many people come through the ranks where racing is their entire life. Even though they have great lives outside of racing, without racing they feel dead on the inside. I'm not going to assume. but to me it seems that RJ, if he can't call a game, is lost. The saying "he died doing what he loved" can't be more in play than a situation like this. Some cities need a play-by-play guy to explain stuff because they aren't hockey savvy. Buffalo isn't that way. We all know more about hockey than 90% of the fans. We just need some background noise. If, by chance, we can't watch a game in its entirety we can still let it play in the background. RJ's tone and inflection is second to none. I can listen to him and know if the game sucks or is super exciting. (Doc Emrick can't do that). RJ, I know you aren't the healthiest person, I also know you recently got over throat cancer. I just hope the Sabres can put together a decent enough run to make you proud before you have to leave. If it means anything, no offense Dan, but Duff killed it. He was forced to step in and did an admirable job. Not so much a perspective of a play by play guy..... but overall he made the last period comical meshing with Rob. I think Duff did a better job coming off the bench than Dunleavy does actually preparing for the job, knowing he is going to call a game. (Sorry Dan, I know you do well. You're just outmatched by Duffer)

It's an unfortunate situation that we all have to accept, just like his family. He's never been a physical specimen and to deal with his health past and the workload.......... we all, and so does he, have to accept the progression of life. At his point, it could be a very minor issue and within a month we'll never even talk about it again. But we have to accept the inevitable. RJ is a damn legend. There is nobody that can compare. I have to admit, Duffer jumping in without notice, he was pretty candid and knowledgeable. Dunleavy prepares for his games...... Dufffer stepped in without notice and did a hell of a lot better than Dunleavy. He didn't do too much play by play, which is understandable. But, he was candid and pretty comical with Rob. Very entertaining, in my opinion. Probably not the best combo for a full time staff, but still. Sabres fans don't need a play by play guy to explain the game, they just need a guy to break the monotony.

This was last week. Yeah, I know, this is everyday life in Buffalo. I grew up in BFLO so I know, lol. Still, in an area that averages between 1-2 feet each year, and to get 18" before the new year even starts............ was kinda cool.
-
18" of snow crippled us about a week and a half ago. This isn't an area that can't handle it, just a major inconvenience. Problem is, almost all of western NC has seen record (or near) rainfall this year. Any more precip is bad. Now that it's cold out, any new rain hurts because it doesn't evaporate. Anyways, after 2" in the last two days, 98% humidity and mist has frozen over everything just a couple hundred feet higher than me. Makes for a cool photo but very eery. With all this rain, they're calling for a serious case of black ice overnight. But figured I'd add this pic because I think it's cool. Maybe not to others, but it was cool if you were there. Eery and cool at the same time. Mid 30's and close to 100% humidity. I'd post another pic from the Ingles lot where the "smoke" 100% completely blocked the entire mountain line, but I can't find a clear day to make it worthwhile to those who have no idea what the hell I'm talking about, lol.

I agree. And it has to be a fight where both parties agree to go, and no staged fighting. Cody McCormick was known for that. Staged fights just for a momentum swing stopped having an impact and are useless.

Berglund on Waivers with Purpose to Terminate His Contract

Does it go over swamp land? -
I cringe at players who want contracts in a contract year who are putting up career numbers, as in they are putting out because they ARE in a contract year. Granted, Skinner is putting up career numbers, but he has always been a top notch scorer even when he was playing in crappy teams and had subpar linemates. I still don't think these guys should be getting paid this much, but superstars who get their big payday seem to get them when they are 28-30 years old. Skinner isn't that old. He will want 8 years, and without giving him that he will look elsewhere. There might be talent coming up through the pipelines, or here already and just needs more time. But, if you're a freshly rebuilt team and have found a potential combo that will set team records, do you mess with that? It's not often I say this, but, PAY THE MAN HIS MONEY! And let's move on. If cap becomes an issue, Skinner shouldn't be the casualty. I'm guessing 8/72

They've got a long term commitment to the arena, they're not going anywhere for a while.

It's no secret that I have a 2nd team, the Panthers. They went on a complete tear last year after the all-star break, becoming the team with the most points not to make the playoffs. Finishing off the season 23-8-2. Trochek got hurt, which was a major loss. But now the team has no heart. Is the team that weak where the loss of one player makes that much of a difference? Granted, Lou was hurt for a while and Reimer absolutely blows. But does the loss of heart come from coaching? Does Tallon wait it out until next year to see if things fix itself? They're loaded with talent, I hate to see the team get broken up. But where do things go from here?
-
They might be 1st in yards allowed, but they're 20th in points allowed.

Weather prevented me from going into town to watch football. Almost 2' of snow. So I'm stuck listening to the game. It's been a long time since I've listened to a Bills game. My god, Mark Kelso is a miserable crybaby POS. I can't stand him, he ***** about every single play. Am I the only one who thinks that way?
-
Thanks. I didn't hear about that.

The article states the Sabres signed a 12 year deal with MSG. Didn't Pegula have plans to start his own network starting next year?

GDT - Maple Leaves @ Sabres - December 4, 2018 - 7:30 PM (EST)
JJFIVEOH replied to Sabres Fan in NS's topic in The Aud Club
As much as I can't stand when the Sabres get a nationally televised game, it is nice to hear a broadcasting crew that is unbiased and to hear their point of view. Regis McGuire is super smart and Marv Albert Jr is ten times the announcer Doc Emrick is. -
For sure!
-
Not to take anything away from Miller, but Miller got a lot of his wins in shootouts. Beezer played in the day of ties with no shootouts. Beezer had 119 ties. Let's just assume a 50% win percentage in shootouts, that's another 60 wins.
-
I agree 100%. And it pains me to see others criticize him for what he's done. He's a rookie with no talent around him. QB's don't just come into the league and dominate off the bat. Every great current aging QB spent time either on the bench, or a couple of years losing and learning from their mistakes. Guys like Mahomes are exceptions to the rule.
-
Josh Allen is the very least of the Bills' concerns at the moment.
-
Not bad, 11 penalties, 3 more were declined, 1 more was offsetting. And there's still 8 minutes left.
-
This time last year, there were 91. But it does seem like there are more one goal games.
-
That Lightning-Panthers game was the worst officiated game I have seen all season, by far. With that said, James Reimer shouldn't be anywhere near an NHL arena. Probably AHL too.
