I've mentioned three or four times now, I'm not necessarily referring to federal statutes and/or Constitutional rights. But since you brought up the fact that the Supremacy Clause has been in use for over 200 years, so has the Constitution. The federal governments ONLY responsibilities are commerce and national security/defense. By creating more and more federal statutes and forcing states to adhere to them, the federal government is overstepping its bounds.

Well, let's look at the positives. The Sabres have scored more goals against the Pens today than they've averaged over the last 8 games against them.- 374 replies

The Supremacy Clause is intended for the federal government to step in when the states violate Constitutional rights. The Supremacy Clause isn't intended for the federal government to step in and say this is how we want you to teach kids in elementary school or we're taking away federal funding.

I don't adhere to any particular party, I hate big government regardless of which side it comes from. And no I don't like it. It's not the responsibility for the government to fund states in need unless it's for commerce and defense. But if they do fund states, it's wrong to attach stipulations in order to grow government. I'm not sure why K-9 thinks I'm only referring to situations where the Supremacy Clause comes into play because this applies to everything from funding for education, roads, utilities, fire/police.............. If/when it does apply to a situation where a state needs to adhere to a federal law, the federal government should address that situation separately instead of saying we'll give you this and this IF you do this.

I don't think he was utilized in Jersey like he should have been. But I got the impression he was just an aging star hanging on by the thread of his career. But the veteran leadership he has brought to the Panthers is priceless. His very first game last year you could see him out there during the game coaching all the young guys, nonstop. He's directing traffic, showing these guys what to do, he's a coach in uniform. He's lost both of his regular linemates so when Huber deal went out last night with a nasty looking hit, he immediately took Trochek under his wing and was showing him what to do. Even without his scoring, this guy's been a big part of Florida's surge. I hope they're working on an extension.

So instead of the federal government aiding certain states when they need it, they propose giving states money under certain conditions in their attempt to expand their power.......... What would you call it?

Cool pic of the sunset! I gots me a new toy, maiden voyage tomorrow after the Sabres game.

Exactly. And that's where problems arise when the federal government continues to try to grow, in both size and power. Where is the line drawn? Originally the Supremacy Clause was created as a means of national security international commerce. Does the federal government take it too far? That's all about perspective, and in most cases it depends on who it benefits. Federal law trumps state's rights, but federal law used to mean defense and commerce, and little else. As far as federal funding, perhaps I used a bad example. My example was intended to refer to red vs. blue state funding.
-
How about when the federal government said they would cut off $1billion in hospital funding if Florida didn't expand Medicaid? The Supremacy Clause applies to states looking to circumvent the Constitution. It doesn't apply to the federal government looking to overstep its powers onto the states.
-
Red states bring in just as much federal $$ as blue states. They just use different avenues. Of the states most reliant on federal $$, many of them are red. And that's how the federal government gets their hands dirty digging into state's affairs. "We'll give you funding for education, infrastructure, etc....... if you do this, this and this. And we'll wait until you need it the most so you have no choice but to take it." It's fraudulent and unconstitutional.

Thanks! It's all good because you made me want a ribeye after your post about searing one. B-) That's what I'm looking for, good word for it. A nice crusty bark. Grilling it on high heat gives it a nice bark and hold in the moisture, I need to be careful when turning it not to puncture the bark. It still leaves a decent crust but nothing like a brisket. But it does add great flavor if I let it sit for a while. Especially when you rub the center before tying to the pieces together. The cranberry sauce sounds intriguing, is it thick like a glaze? I like marinades too, but I leave those for the chops.

PK 31/32 in Lehner games once he came back. I'm not concerned with Lehner losing his focus with situations like that. He himself said he plays better when he gets involved in the play and gets physical. I think he might lose focus after a bad goal and/or bad calls by the refs. If he's the kind of goaltender who plays 3-4 lights out games and then bombs a game, I'm OK with it. Because you know there's a pretty good chance you win those 3-4 games whereas if you have a consistently average goaltender, every game is a toss up.

Dunleavy has been improving quite a bit. Where he's dropped the cliches, Ray has picked them up. Rob's a cliche machine. I don't think he has the chemistry he does with RJ. I'm starting to like Dunleavy more and more.- 490 replies

I've been mastering the grilled ribeye lately, but a few months ago I went with something new. A dry rubbed, grilled pork loin. I usually get about a 2.5-3 pound pork loin and rub it with a mixture of cayenne, kosher salt, ground pepper, sugar, brown sugar, etc.............. Grilling it takes about 45-60 minutes with the lid up, on high. Here's the problem I'm having, maybe somebody can help. Whenever I rub it, within minutes the rub gets wet and turns into a thick, pasty coating. It will collect at the bottom of the plate I have it on, and I have to keep scooping it up and rubbing it back on. This happens no matter how much I dry it off beforehand. Somehow I pictured it turning out looking like a brisket. Is there a way to keep the dry rub, dry? When I grill it, it still comes out delicious as I keep scooping it back onto the meat as it grills. It's the best pork I've had, juicy and super tender. I was just hoping it would come out looking like a brisket, that's the tastiest part is the outside. Oh, to keep with the title of the thread, I just had a bowl of strawberries and raspberries.

Isn't it a little bit early for people to stop keeping up on their teams? Why do people even play if they have no intentions of finishing? -
