  1. It's an interesting point. If TG and MH actually come to blows after a lengthy and public twitter beef, there is a real possibility that at least one of their respective employers will be embarrassed/disgusted by the whole thing and cut them loose.
  2. I made a joke earlier about the KHL, but I then looked at the salaries in that league. It isn't a real threat. The worry, IMHO, is that Reino holds out and misses a substantial portion of camp. I think that would increase the risk of another terrible start by him. I don't blame him for wanting to make as much cash as he can get, but if JBott doesn't want to give him a long-term deal, I think Reino's interests will be best served by signing a short-term deal and getting into camp.
  3. Understandable, but I would just urge you to consider that there is a real likelihood (25%? 50%? 95%?) that Dahlin will deliver a mini-masterpiece pretty much every night.
  4. Yes indeedly, and it sure would've been nice if the Bills hadn't eliminated this option by going with just Petey and Allen But I think it was TBPhD who was beating the drum. Cold hard truthiness right there.
  5. Very interesting. So: Risto-Scandy McCabe-Dahlin Bogo-Hunwick Holy mackerel I would like to see McCabe emerge as Dahlin's steady, tough, hard-hitting, stay-at-home partner. And Dahlin might be the kind of guy who can elevate a guy like McCabe into that role.
  6. I agree with PA — criticizing Lehner for his performance as a hockey player is legitimate and nothing to apologize for. It’s OK to feel empathy for him and wish him well as a person while still expressing dissatisfaction with his play.
  7. I think a 1-year deal is the least likely outcome. Neither Reino nor the Sabres will want it.
  8. Why would he have signed a 1-year deal?
  9. I interpret that clause as evidence that SJ does not in fact have an extension worked out with Karlsson. Or perhaps they do, and Ottawa is just out to lunch on this too!
  10. My point was just that Rodgers had 3 years of NFL experience in which to develop/improve his pocket awareness.
  11. Here's another nugget from Tim Graham on twitter today:
  12. I think it's worth noting that Rodgers sat for his first 3 seasons behind Favre.
  13. If Howie has advanced up the learning curve, if Hutton has the goods and if Jackie boy and Dahlin stay healthy, this will be the most enjoyable season in forever.
  14. 1 -- Totally agree, although we do often see players described as "hard-partying" and similar adjectives. 2 -- Here's what he said: Well, IMHO it depends on what hypothetically was withheld. Manic depression and suicidal thoughts? Totally agree. Drinking a case of beer a day plus taking pills? Not so much.
  15. Wow. Good for Robin for opening up about this. It probably will help others. I too will be rooting for him with the Isles. Couple of other thoughts: - XGMTM saw all this up close in Ottawa and still bet the ranch on Lehner. Brilliant. - Not a peep from the WNY media about any of this during Lehner's time here. Maybe they were covering for him, or, more likely, they were just out to lunch. - While I'm sympathetic to Lehner, I'm not sure it was OK for him to withhold the information about his condition from the teams he was meeting with over the summer during his job search. - In response to the comment upthread about the Players' Tribune: while I'm sure there is some editing/ghostwriting going on, I think many of the articles there are excellent. This one in particular was amazing: https://www.theplayerstribune.com/en-us/articles/steve-francis-i-got-a-story-to-tell
  16. I think we achieved maximum humidity in NYC yesterday.
  17. I don’t think it’s ever been really confirmed, but it was certainly widely reported, that in the Bills’ last playoff game pre-drought, Ralph Wilson ordered then-coach Wade Phillips to start Rob Johnson over Doug Flutie. Flutie had started the first 15 games, during which the Bills had clinched their playoff spot, but the offense had sputtered a bit. RJ started a meaningless game 16 and looked good. If you believe in the sports gods, they were pretty GD PO’d at Ralph for that one, resulting in Home Run Throwback and no playoffs for 17 years.
  18. How is Sam going to be an alternate captain for the Sabres while skating for SKA St. Petersburg this fall?
  19. It’s been pretty good so far this year. This week’s episode was solid.
  20. If McD’s decision was to play Peterman again, TP’s decision should’ve been to fire him on the spot.
  21. IMHO it's too early to judge Star and Murphy. However, if they and Vontae Davis all stink this year, then there is a real problem with Beane and perhaps McD. I'm just relieved at this point that McD realizes that Peterman can't start on Sunday.
  22. Well, they declined substantially from his 1st year to his 2nd, and from his 2nd to his 3rd. The hockey stick graph is hockey sticking the wrong way. The Sabres are a Tesla? Seriously: your point is fair. But if the question is Eichel or Dahlin, there is a reasonable position that Dahlin might be the better choice, partially because Eichel hasn't earned it.
  23. Playing devil's advocate: the Sabres have gotten much worse during Eichel's time here -- a time when he has been their best player. That doesn't seem to indicate leadership. And while Eichel has a ton of potential, I think Dahlin will be the better player -- maybe even by the end of this season.
