Well, a move can be direct and decisive but still ill-conceived and disastrous -- kinda like the tank. And while it doesn't really matter anymore, it does kinda matter because there is a disturbingly high number of people who still think it was the right move, and who therefore would support doing it again.

I recently learned that the way to cut brownies without tearing them up is by using a disposable plastic knife. (My daughter makes outstanding brownies and we will sometimes bring a plate over to someone's house.) Separately, if the Sabres get blown out at home by a crappy team again, JB might not last until the trade deadline. So that's exciting.

Good post. I agree with a lot of this. I wouldn't say it was "precipitated" by the tank so much as I would say "primarily caused" by the tank, but certainly it's true that a lot of missteps have contributed to the current CF. And this is one of the major missteps, and one that I was particularly concerned about last summer. The Sabres were dying for strong goaltending, but JB opted to bring back the same 2 guys who weren't remotely good enough last year. As a team with limited offense that is struggling to break out of losing quicksand, they absolutely had to have much better goaltending. It really concerns me that JB didn't recognize that and fix it.

I'd like to put the brakes on the "Wawrow is highly credible and thus there must be something to this tweet" assumption. Wawrow's occasional posts on this board have pretty often been weird and irrational -- which is of a piece, IMHO, with the theory that PLF hired TM with the goal of TM failing and PLF then taking over.

After reading about the single shot approach, it sounds like they were actually quite a few cuts, so although the scenes were longer than normal, it wasn’t like a single two hour cut (although it was put together to look like essentially two very long scenes in the entire movie). In any case, it was beautifully done and the effect is quite compelling.

Dude. There is NFW that Reino is the sweetener to get someone to take KO. That's a draft pick, or a prospect, or taking the other team's bad contract. As others have said, Reino is only going to be traded, and should only be traded, as part of a package to bring back an indisputable star. I've noticed a discouraged petulance in Eichel's game lately. I'm sure he's PO'd about yet another season down the tubes, but still. The captain can't behave this way.

No. You absolutely are responsible for opening the door to freejame's response. It was completely foreseeable. This is going to be a contentious year in this country. The hysteria is going to be highly unpleasant. If it has to infect this board, it needs to be limited to the politics club. However, I agree that the "wrong" gif you posted (and similar ones) also belongs in the politics club. Nobody should push the envelope on this. If you want to make a political statement, make it where it belongs.

I think TP in the abstract does not want to fire JB, but if they go, say, 8-17-4 in their last 29 games, which would give them 73 pts on the season (after a 76-point season last year), and there are a number of home blowouts in those 17 losses like last night's debacle -- everyone's getting canned. And that would be the right move.

I only saw the 3rd period and OT, but Jack was pretty ineffective and out of it (kinda looked depressed, but that's just a subjective inference) IMHO until the GWG.

It's not at all unreasonable to give Trotz more credit than Lou. TBH I had forgotten that Lou was hired only a couple of months before Trotz. Of course, Lou did act decisively when Trotz became available, and convince Trotz to join the Isles. BTW, the Isles got those 2 guys in the summer of 2018, i.e. after Botteril and Housley's 1st year ended up in an unanticipated DFL finish. Just sayin...

I agree that Trotz was a huge addition for the Isles, but the most important move they made IMHO — and also the biggest difference between them and the Sabres — was bringing in Sweet Lou as GM. The new owner saw an experienced, successful GM become available, grabbed him up and everything flowed from there. Meanwhile, TP, good intentions notwithstanding, hired 2 inexperienced guys who crapped the bed.

Yes, but this ignores the key point, which is what I said earlier: the NHL doesn't care about a market of 100 people, even if 94 of them are watching hockey. They care about a market in which 500,000 people are watching, even if there are 5MM people in that market.

This is an oft-repeated canard. Buffalo gets a high percentage of hockey viewers but not a high absolute number of viewers, which is what matters.
