Report: “Another Disconnect” Between Botterill and Krueger
nfreeman replied to That Aud Smell's topic in The Aud Club
So -- nothing in the article about tensions or disagreements between RK and JB? Just an observation that JB wants to the team to enter with possession, and the team in fact played more of a dump and chase game? What a BS clickbait move by the writer. Credibility diminished. -
Report: “Another Disconnect” Between Botterill and Krueger
nfreeman replied to That Aud Smell's topic in The Aud Club
Just for poops and giggles—if there were a serious disagreement that became a power struggle, who would TP be inclined to back? If it’s game of thrones rules, I think Krueger would win. But it’s also fairly likely that they both would get canned or that they each would be told they can resign if they want but otherwise they need to work it out. But this increases the likelihood that next year we have RK and no JB. -

Having now read the article, I will say that Yardon's assumption that Larsson will get $3.1MM x 4 years is nuts. And I agree with those upthread who said that Yardon overestimated Reino's new deal and others. I also don't agree with this: Those are a bunch of JAGs who are easily replaceable and not worth much more than NHL minimum. Overall, it seemed like Yardon -- who I think is reasonably knowledgeable about the team -- had an idea for a take and tried to bend the facts to suit his position. And I did agree with this, which was his main point, although IMHO most of the rest of the article well overstated it: -

Happy anniversary (close, anyway) to this thread! Here's something from Yardon's salary cap piece today in the Athletic: Maybe the Sabres get lucky here and this guy turns out to be a contributor. -

Interesting. Has anyone formulated an opinion about Chad D., especially whether he has good inside info? I've read some of his stuff but not enough to come to any conclusions. -

This thread is a humiliating setback for @freester. -

But I thought JB had gotten the Sabres out of cap hell and was now playing 3-dimensional cap chess while his peers were playing checkers? Again: anyone here could've served as GM, spent to the cap and produced the crappy results that JB has delivered. -
Well, "Airplane" is a classic film, but I'm not sure it's fair to expect everyone to know the red zone/white zone theory based on this clip.
-
So it was all a fear-and-loathing tempest in a teapot? This tends to support the "the Pegulas are decent people but holy mackerel they have bad PR instincts and execution" theory. @PASabreFan -- any thoughts?

Howie and Schony. Flash and fire.

Well, saffron would've been nice, but we are quarantined in upstate NY, pretty far from the closest saffron stash. I seasoned with salt, pepper, paprika, parsley, rosemary and a little garlic. The inferior substitute was splenda instead of sweet'n'low (not paella related).
-
I made paella tonight and it came out pretty good. Chicken, sausage, scallops, onions, peppers and peas.
-
Is there a name for...you run out of a household staple, go to the closest convenience store, they don’t have it but they have an inferior substitute, you unhappily buy it because it’s better than nothing...and then you get home and find another package of the staple you thought you were out of? That happened to me today.

I don’t think anyone doubts it.

Movies / TV Shows - I Have Watched / Plan To Watch
nfreeman replied to Sabres Fan in NS's topic in The Aud Club
Just rewatched most of “Goodfellas.” I still think what I thought before: it’s kinda overrated but with some great scenes and great performances, especially by Joe Pesci. -
This was my thought as well. Ideally he'll be someone who will progress through his career alongside Josh Allen and who can be both a friend and a competitor to Allen, and who can step in capably from time to time when Allen inevitably misses time due to taking too many big hits.

Beware all -- when @Eleven is out here looking to rumble, it's best to keep your head down.

Wow. Not sure I've ever met a passionate Whalers fan before. Fight the good fight, @sabremike! Every minute, every day!

@Eleven -- since this is a full-service message board, here is @Taro T's post in normal coloring, brought to you via the magic of copy-and-paste:

Per Dreger Sabres 2020 First Pick Maybe Available
nfreeman replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
I just have no faith that JB will get the right return for a fairly precious asset. -
Excellent writeup on Zack Moss: https://www.cover1.net/2020-nfl-draft-utah-rb-zack-moss-elusive-and-nasty/ He was the Pac-10 offensive player of the year! He and Singletary are going to be a strong RB combo.
-
I like the pick too but evidently athleticism is not his strong suit. Good call!
-
I'll predict the Bills take either a pass rusher or an O-lineman in the 2nd round.

"Analytical conclusions" are not the same as "opinions." If Sam Reinhart is a slower skater than my mother is, and my mother is a slower skater than Jack Eichel, then Sam Reinhart is slower than Jack Eichel. That's an analytical conclusion, not an opinion (assuming the slowness is based on empirical data, not on me arguing with Liger). And a column being an opinion column does not preclude it from including analytical conclusions. As for your parents -- I have the same concerns about mine, and my mother-in-law (although she's entirely constructed of whisky and leather at this point, so I'm pretty sure she's virus-proof). I think the column was advocating that policies be designed and implemented specifically for their protection -- e.g. before anyone is allowed to visit his/her parents in a nursing home, he/she needs to be tested -- and that those policies could be more targeted and less broad, so that they didn't require the shutdown of the economy (which itself carries numerous deleterious effects).
