This jibes with a number of articles I've read recently -- i.e. the theory is that the spread of the virus can be slowed via masks, social distancing, etc., but not prevented from reaching its "natural" level, so pretty much all regions will end up with a similar infection rate. NYC, the theory goes, due to population density and several mistakes early in the process, suffered both a higher infection rate and a higher fatality rate than anywhere else in the US, but the other regions will get to the same infection rate (but probably not the same fatality rate) eventually.

Movies / TV Shows - I Have Watched / Plan To Watch
nfreeman replied to Sabres Fan in NS's topic in The Aud Club
@biodork -- yes -- Schitt's Creek was a really enjoyable comedy. Separately, I just finished "Zerozerozero" on Amazon Prime. Pretty good international crime/drug war show. It's a lot like the movie "Sicario" and in fact some of the episodes were directed by the director of the 2nd Sicario movie. Solid B-plus. -
I dropped my phone in the water about a week ago and it's lost about 50% of its functionality. Then, I found a great deal online (at best buy) for a new phone, but in order to get a $62 trade-in for my old phone, I had to take my old phone to a best buy store. I was too busy on Monday to take it in -- and then on Tuesday, best buy increased the price of the new phone by $240. So I'm reconsidering my options.

SabreSpace Trade Proposal: Cozens and 8th for Cirelli
nfreeman replied to sweetlou's topic in The Aud Club
I agree with most of this, but as to the bolded, I've read/heard from a number of sources that the top 10 or so in this draft is loaded, so #8 has a better-than-average chance at being a very good player. I would trade it for the right #2C, and Cirelli might very well be that guy, but it's a plum asset to part with. -
@JohnC -- while I agree that JB largely avoided crippling huge contracts (assuming of course that Skinner's deal doesn't turn out to be exactly that, which is a huge assumption), I can't give him much credit for cap management -- especially after the crappy players he brought in this past year resulted in a cap overage that will cost the team space against next year's cap, and especially when doing so yielded zero improvement on the ice.

SabreSpace Trade Proposal: Cozens and 8th for Cirelli
nfreeman replied to sweetlou's topic in The Aud Club
I think TB will work out a way to trade a couple of expensive vets and keep Cirelli. However, if they do trade him, the Sabres aren't getting him without including #8 this year. If they are lucky, TB might take #8, Mittlestadt and one of Borgen, Samuelsson or Johnson. -
The government isn't developing vaccines. And criticism, or praise, of any state or federal government official on this should go in the politics club. But thanks for your contribution to board comity.
-
Yes please.
-
Moved a few posts into the politics club. Again: discussion of government responses to the virus goes in the politics club.
-
It wasn't, and all you had to do was ask.
-
Dude. I wish there were less animus in your post, but I will attempt to respond. - Of course I haven't proved a negative, since it is pretty much impossible to do so. I've suggested several times that those concerned about bias do the work to support the claim, and the only response I've received was a refusal to do so. - I in no way said that discussion of racial bias makes me PO'd. Not even close. I said that I took offense at the accusations towards me of political bias in the way I choose which posts to move to the politics club, and that last time I got too PO'd about it. - If there are profits being made on this site -- which I highly doubt -- I'm not aware of them. - I deleted one of your posts, and when you expressed consternation, I offered to restore it into either this thread or the politics club (although, as I said at the time, I felt it belonged in the politics club). You didn't respond to that offer. As for your post last night, it was moved into the politics club, and I said this morning that I moved a bunch of posts into the politics club, so I'm not sure how you can say it disappeared. Happy to discuss further if you like.
-
OK -- I've moved a bunch of posts to the politics club and re-opened this thread. As always, this thread is for discussion of the non-political aspects of the virus. Political opinions, including discussion of state or federal government response to the virus, goes in the politics club. As for the latest batch of bias accusations -- while I continue to find these offensive, I admit to getting too PO'd about these the last time around, and more broadly I don't think there is anything to be gained from me participating in a vitriolic exchange on this, so I will just say: - I didn't move posts or participate in posting yesterday as it was a pretty busy day. While I had a few minutes here and there yesterday to read a few threads on my phone, including this one, I didn't have time to move posts (which is much easier on a computer than on a phone, btw) or write anything. - If anyone thinks a post should be moved, all he/she has to do is report it, and the request will be taken seriously. Our response time may not be as fast as some might like, but we'll get to it. - I continue to be disappointed by the willingness of some who should know better to level accusations without bothering to take 20 minutes or so to do any kind of work or analysis to determine whether or not the accusations are empirically supported. That's all.
-
JFC. I’ll move posts and perhaps respond to the latest accusations tomorrow. Until then I’m locking this and anyone who likes can head over to the politics club.
-
I think it should go in the politics club, but I'm not inclined to move every post that lands in the gray area. But when it becomes part of a political temper tantrum spasm of posts -- and this one, like most of them, was easily foreseeable -- the whole spasm generally gets moved.
-
I wasn't planning on moving your post, but it led inexorably into a couple of others that clearly merited moving, so yours got caught in the draft. I wouldn't say every conversation about Covid is political -- e.g. most of this thread isn't political -- but there is certainly a substantial amount, which I'm regrettably sure will only increase as we approach November.

You are right that I glossed over Beauvillier. But he's a LW, which is the only forward position where the Sabres don't need help. Copp is indeed a solid 2-way guy, but he played 17:42 per game last year -- how much would his role realistically increase with the Sabres? @dudacek is right that I was referring to Borgstrom. Yes please on a new goalie.
-
If the Sabres go to camp with that lineup the pitchforks and torches crowd will be out in full force. And I'll be with them. Risto, Montour and Mitts for a 26-point center, a failing prospect and a couple of defensemen? No thank you. They need a couple of no-BS producers of offense. CDD's proposals do not deliver even one.

This is obnoxious and not how we communicate here.

I’m looking forward to the deets on this.

Good for Lindy. I'll be rooting for him.

I suppose it's also possible that TP isn't interested in adding to payroll until we get closer to the draft, free agency, etc. If the Sabres aren't interested in Dudley, I hope that's not the reason.
-
@john wawrow -- I'm sure everyone here would appreciate hearing anything you might know about whether the Sabres are interested in Dudley! Thanks.

There are a number of different death rates, but the most relevant for purposes of comparing states or countries is Covid deaths per unit of population (which I think is usually 1MM).
