I recall watching an interview with Alex Tuch just before training camp. He said it was definitely a playoff season, and that it was time. So he must think they have the pieces in the room. I guess he hasn't been in the organization long enough to have the joy of hockey ripped from his soul.

I like making trades for anonymous NHL names with one of the 3 or so teams the same or worse than Buffalo.

The goaltending and defense are pretty much the same as last year...UPL looks a bit better thus far. The huge regression is scoring. The goals came easily last season and it's pretty clear, several guys had career seasons in the same year. The GM, players, coaches and fans all kind of expected similar results on offense and that's where everyone whiffed badly.

We've seen good individual players leave Buffalo recently,,,, (Reinhart, O'Reilly, Eichel, Ullmark, Rodrigues etc...) and excel at other places and help lead those teams to high point totals and playoff runs.. Even someone who was not liked here like Bogosian got major minutes on good playoff teams. Bottom line, the common denominator is Terry Pegula. This particular owner has created such a culture of losing from the top on down, that even good hockey people cannot get out from under it. I've been saying it for 2+ years now on Twitter and other social media. Sell the team Terry. You will still get a large return on your investment and won't have to deal with the arena upgrades. SELL THE TEAM. Even by accident, another owner would do better...like past owners here.

Sell the team Terry. Anyone would luck in to better results than under your ownership. Literally anyone.

We had one season recently where the Sabres fared pretty well against Detroit.. otherwise i feel like the Red Wings usually handle Buffalo. Gotta get a W tonight. Can't fall behind 2-0 in the first ten minutes of the game.

Arizona leads Washington 5-0 after one. I’ve said it before I’ll say it again. Some of these other organizations hit rough patches in their history and then make the playoffs by accident every few years. I cannot believe what has happened to our hockey city.

No worries Adams. Stay the course. My son was in 1st grade last time we made the playoffs. Now he’s a grown man in college. Ya think maybe we can get this playoff thing happening by the time he’s father in a few years? and i’m a grandfather? Just a little urgency? I tell ya, some of these other organizations make the playoffs every few years by accident.

Not getting some of these close home losses to OT is the death of the Sabres every season. They just lose so many in regulation and fall way behind the pack.

They should have broken the drought last season. it was their time. But some weak goaltending, defense and terrible PK was the fine line that cost them some career goal scoring years. Oh well. back to square one. In the NHL if you’re not gonna get in the tournament you might as well finish at the bottom.

This was a playoff season or bust. Even Alex Tuch made the comment that the time is now. That this is the season. So i don’t know where they go from here.

Nashville can’t wait for this scrimmage in a half empty building.

Wake me when the Sabres ever figure out how to beat Carolina and Boston. I’ll probably be long dead though.

Hey, at least they have not gone on the annual 8-10 game losing streak. They managed to sprinkle in some wins in between losses, I think the worst was a 3 game losing streak in mid-November. So by virtue of that, the club is hanging around the "in the hunt" teams. But yeah, the East is a gauntlet and I don't see how the Sabres make the leap to #8 seed. Defensively they still seem disjointed, goalies are average at best, and the offense has regressed from last season. It all adds up to no playoffs again. I was hoping we'd turn in to what the Red Wings are doing, but nope.

Very frustrating. Because a game like this and zero points, while a bunch of the Eastern Conference is compiling more pts, is the reason the Sabres never make the playoffs.

Outshoot a team 45-20 and lose in regulation. such a joke. they are not serious about making the playoffs.

Honestly, I think it's time for a coaching change. Granato was good for the turnaround. But to get to the next level, they need a better coach.

Hey. UPL has been in the Sabres system 5+ years? and he’s just now showing like he’s getting it. I think we expected Levi to show up in year 1 at the NHL level and kill it. He’s definitely not killing it, but not getting embarrassed too much either. He will mature, understand the nuances to the NHL and the speed will be easier to manage. I don’t think it will take him 5 years to become really solid.

If the Sabres can play this type of road game at home, they’d have something and win a lot more. As others have said, they seem to pack it in with 1 goal leads and don’t try to put the game away. They get tied late or lose games late way too often. Rough ending. I like Levi but was hoping he’d be a savior this season. Nope, he’s not a savior yet.

TB scores with 5 seconds remaining to tie Boston and guarantee a point. That’s how good teams do it. They don’t stand for regulation losses, play hard to the end and get the point., then Hagel scores in OT to grab the two points.

Right before the season even Tuch said publicly it’s a playoff year. He said The fans deserve it as does the organization. So it’s a playoffs season or bust. There’s no consolation for developing players or whatever. It’s playoffs or you failed this season.

Yeah the way the Eastern Conference looks, it’s just about time to put a wrap on the season. You can’t fall several points behind the pace and hope to hopscotch a bunch of teams after New Years. Not gonna happen.
