His 34 points in 48 games during the lockout shortened year was a pretty nic season. In my opinion he needs sheltered minutes and power play time to contribute. Nolan was unwilling to shelter his minutes and took away his PP time when he played poorly as a result.

I think he's a middle pairing guy long term, bottom pairing this coming season., I wouldn't be devastated if they had to include him in a trade as long as they replaced him with another capable bottom pairing defender.

I could see Pegula using Battista as a go between for him and the hockey department. I could also see how it might rub some in the hockey department the wrong way (Lafontaine). Especially if there would be reason to believe Battista is influencing Pegula's decisions. -

Contract status plays into his trade value. Rick Nash is an $8M a year player, however he didn't cost that in assets because he needed a new deal.

I think neither. I think they have their 6 with Zadorov, Ristolainen, Bogosian, Pysyk, Gorges and Weber. Perhaps they sign a free agent D who will push Weber into the #7 spot or Zadorov to Rochester.

I voted yes as I don't see anyone in the system ready to take his bottom line spot. He could however be replaced with a UFA with a similar skill set.

I think Murray said in the later press conference that it was just negotiation and that he didn't really think too much of him not signing at that point.

They not only have no trade clauses, but no move clauses. So I think buyout would be the only option.

Allegedly Wilson has wanted to rebuild and make sweeping changes for over a year now but Thornton and Marleau won't waive the no trade clauses he gave them.

Perhaps they've lost patience with trying to extend him, they still hold his rights and if he receives no offer sheet they have him on a 1 year deal.
