  1. Nah, the sun has "risen" for hundreds of thousands of years. We didn't even know the word "COVID" until two months ago or so.
  2. I've taken one cruise, last year, and I'll likely not do it again, but one thing they really, really stressed was to wash and sanitize hands frequently. Every time we embarked or disembarked, there was a crew member there with a bottle of Purell.
  3. The state reopened golf courses (including public) and marinas last week. Trying to get us used to fresh air again, maybe? I don't know what Ollie's is.
  4. A lot of Catholics relaxed themselves over Lent as things evolved. A lot of us figured, look, whatever it was that I was giving up for Lent, forget it. Right now, I'm giving *everything* up, so I'll just offer up that instead. Reasonable. Question: What does a Muslim in the extreme Northern Hemisphere do when Ramadan falls in the summer? When I visited Iceland, it was never dark and the sun merely dipped below the horizon for a minute or so. How and when do these people eat?
  5. You know, I'm just going to let you off the hook with this. I'm in a decent mood for the first time all week.
  6. What Miami did yesterday has the potential to completely flip the franchise by 2021 (by which time it will also have had another two first round picks and a bevy of seconds). Stud QB, stud OL, pretty good CB. They're going to grab a running back tonight, too. I am frightened.
  7. I know what you're trying to do here, but you whiffed on it!
  8. Ok. So I don't have to drag out the picture of the Shawshank warden, let's look right at the article, because it sure isn't as simple as comparing three ice skaters' speeds... " Fact 1: The overwhelming majority of people do not have any significant risk of dying from COVID-19." This clearly isn't a fact. It's an opinion, and a reasonable one, informed by available data. It doesn't even look like a fact. He can't possibly know, either--the virus could mutate, it could lie dormant within the supposedly healthy for years and then kill them, it could kill people in connection with other bacteria or viruses or whatever. It is an opinion soundly based in available data, but that's it. Also, is your mother-in-law Lucille Bluth? It's really loosely defined, and it has to be. You wouldn't think that a cardboard factory would be essential, not at first, right? But then you realize that the cardboard is used to make boxes which are used to ship essentials all over the planet, and, whoa! A cardboard factory is essential?!
  9. If you already saw this on reddit yesterday or today, please ignore it. I didn't come up with this, but I thought it might be fun for some folks... There are two current NHL players who had their first names on the front of their sweaters. One still does. Who are they? Since this is DEFINITELY a trick question, with elements of wordplay, I offer the following hints: 1. 2. 3. Answer:
  10. 1&3. And that's why it's opinion. It's also explicitly an opinion column. 5. Because (a) those people have the need/right to earn a living too, and (b) you know some dumbass like me is going to contract it, show no symptoms, and infect mom and/or dad. And as crosschecking noted, what about people who live with the immunocompromised? That depends on one's location.
  11. I should have known. This isn't political: This was irresponsible. I don't care if you're Bono, Oprah Winfrey, Cristiano Ronaldo, or Donald Trump--if you have an audience that large, you have a responsibility to either shut up about this stuff and let doctors do the talking, or choose your words very, very carefully so that someone doesn't ingest aquarium cleaner or inject themselves with bleach. Again, has nothing to do with anyone's politics. He lumps them in with the elderly.
  12. His point 1 is not a fact, it's an opinion, and I wish he'd call it that. Frankly, it's an opinion I share. But SDS's counterpoint is the important part. His point 2 scares me, as the son of aging parents. Point 3 is also an opinion I share; we decrease herd immunity by staying apart. Point 4 is insufficiently supported. Point 5 is ridiculous. I have little sympathy for the Silent Generation and the Boomers given the irreparable damage they have caused to global society, but we can't just put them on lockdown.
  13. I've been living under a rock since about Sunday or so. Emerged last night for the draft. Is this actually a thing?
  14. Miami is getting good. I am unhappy. It was a good trade. I misjudged it in immediacy because of the Sammy Watkins Experience, but it was a good trade. I spent some time in a zoom chat with a good friend from Minny yesterday and he still is furious about it.
  15. Well yeah, wouldn't you want kids who are used to making money playing football?
  16. But probably not good for the Bills. I think Tua is the real deal.
  17. Not yet. Right now, the NFL Network is in the middle of a faketriotism overload.
  18. Not at all. There were comparisons to the Jacobs family, there was a lengthy criticism of the failure to pay game-day employees, and some serious discussion of the "drill another well" mentality. You either didn't listen to too much of it (because they did take a break after a few minutes to talk NFL draft) or are underselling it.
  19. Dalton is washed up, and I never was much of a believer in him to begin with. I'd much rather have the Bills stick with the plan, maybe add a third-string project, and move forward. I see Dalton as a step back.
  20. I can sure say this so far--anyone who thought that WGR is afraid to criticize the Pegulas needs to walk that back after the last half hour.
  21. His record with the Bills suggests otherwise. He won his lone start in 2018. His lone "real game" in 2019 was the game where the Bills got jobbed against the Patriots, and Barkley had to come in late off the bench to play against both the Pats and the refs. His other game in 2019 also was not a start and was not a "real game"; it was week 17 against the Jets, and the Bills were just trying to get out of there without injuries. I think he could win 2 out of 4 games. Andy Dalton, on the other hand, won 2 out of 13 starts last season. 5 out of 11 the year before.
  22. I was wondering how you're doing with that. Good to see you're not among the victims.
  23. I think that Barkley is very good for Allen. I also don't think he's a bad backup at all. I'd rather keep him around.
  24. I have a few observations about both the article and the Q&A, but I need to give them both a second read (where I usually read The Athletic doesn't lend itself well to concentration). I'm slightly disappointed, but I also wonder how much of it is business as usual in the industry. More to come.
