  1. Sure, but it follows that an employer who takes adverse action against an employee because they're straight is doing so because that person has exhibited behavior or attributes that are deemed unacceptable because [the target of the employee's behavior] IS of the opposite sex. As we know, most of the civil rights canon originated as a way to protect women, people of color, and religious minorities. That doesn't mean it's ok for your employer to fire you because you're a white male. We know it isn't. I think the same standard is going to apply here. Unfortunately for Mr. Roenick, his behavior justifies his firing while Weir's may or may not. EDIT: I just re-read the article and I think his complaint might be under NYS law and not federal law anyway.
  2. I do read it that way. The phrase "protected class" does not appear in the opinion, but it's the only reasonable reading. Sexual orientation is now a protected class at the federal level, and of course that applies to all sexual orientations, including straight. Roenick's problem is going to be that what Weir said doesn't even come close to the level of what Roenick said. Well, I mean his problem with the case. Obviously, he has plenty of other problems in general.
  3. Nice, unbiased article. Just the straight poop!
  4. Is it really, though? To put on a mask and stay six feet away from strangers? I don't see it as a huge burden at all. There are now stores that aren't even enforcing the rules and have pulled up their six-foot distance markers (I'm looking at you, Speedway on Elmwood). I did ask someone to back up the other day, and he did, though.
  5. Lots of places are doing stuff like that to satisfy the rule. Some bars don't have kitchens. Hotel Lafayette, which *does* have a kitchen, has come out with a dollar menu including a slice of cold cut (chef's choice), nine French fries, a basket of croutons, and a dish of grapes.
  6. Not sure how the tweet relates to the Johnson pick. Is it because Robertson is subbing in for an unavailable player?
  7. "New York is now requiring bars to serve food with alcohol" belongs in the politics club? Yeah, sensible approach.
  8. It is as of last month. Boystock v. Clayton County.
  9. I like our local NBC affiliate's news team (WGRZ, Ch. 2), mostly because I have a couple of friends on camera there. I won't watch any of the Big Three network news broadcasts (nor any of the Big Three cable news broadcasts, for that matter). Roenick was overrated as a player and remained overrated on camera.
  10. Oh give it a rest and play your trumpet. It's hardly disguised, Neo, and now you're trying to play me as a fool, which I do not appreciate at all.
  11. I like the Sabres more than the Bills. I also greatly prefer this board to TBD. I don't go there often and I happen to agree with you. But I'm also not going to discourage others from it because Scott is a good dude. I also have the (uninformed by personal experience) thought that the folks at TBD who are hardcore do some pretty nifty tailgating together.
  12. 1. You are being used as a pawn in another argument. There is a double standard in this thread. 2. I regret using you as a pawn, but, at this point, I'm more Howard Beale and not so much Harry Neale. That's on me, but I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore.
  13. @nfreeman this isn't political, right?
  14. For once in this thread, you're correct. I don't think I ever gave less than a B- when I was a professor. Then again, my students were good.
  15. Well, New York has done a good job so far. Not an A, but a B+ . "Washington," which is your codeword for Trump to avoid censorship (nice try but I'm not taking it anymore), has not. That's an F. And BS it's agnostic and not tribal. Be honest with yourself and with us.
  16. Good. Then why in the world would you defend what Georgia's governor did? @nfreeman This isn't political, right?
  17. 1. I'll bet the above isn't moved. Well, I'll bet it wouldn't have been moved had I not written something. EDIT: It won't be moved now that' I've challenged it. Or now maybe it WILL be moved now that I've mentioned the challenge. Where will the freeman winds take us today? 2. https://gov.georgia.gov/executive-action/executive-orders/2020-executive-orders You'll want the July 15 order at the second page, where the governor substitutes "encouraged" for what his constituent counties and municipalities had decided. That's the problem, dig?
  18. World emoji day?
  19. Well, @nfreeman has been on the board several times since I asked this question, including within the last ten minutes, so I suppose there is no answer. Please don't move posts haphazardly to the politics thread. And please don't do it because of YOUR political beliefs, which you have done numerous times. You're a good mod. And I'm hesitant to criticize mods because I know it's hard, unpaid work. But your actions in this thread show a very clear political bias. Even a post that doesn't mention a politician, doesn't mention a party, doesn't mention anything about politics, gets moved. Into a forum that I do moderate, BTW. Meanwhile, numerous similar posts, that don't mention politicians, but which present a right-wing POV, remain. I know you, I think you're a good person, but I think you should step out of moderating this thread. You are not handling it even-handedly.
  20. Please tell me why this was moved to the politics thread: How stupid is this? It's stupid enough to not have it [wearing masks] as a statewide requirement; it's a special level of stupid to prevent municipalities and counties from having their own requirements.
  21. I really think they're in serious trouble. Like sell the company level trouble.
