  1. Oh, Hammy (any relation to Paul?) may have, with currency, and Chernow may have been right. I've no idea. I suspect that it's correct. But the metric system, the decimal calendar, and the decimal clock (yes they tried) were borne from the French Revolution, which was in 1789, and it took them a few years to get all of it going. There's no way that a decimal American dollar, if it began in 1790, was based upon a French metric system. We still serve real pours here, though. In all kinds of weather.
  2. Decimal currency, yeah. Metric system though? The French were just starting to think about it in 1790. And a decimal calendar along with it.
  3. I didn't think *anyone* was using the metric system in 1790.
  4. Depends on the roster. If he has a reasonable NHL roster to work with, 20 or 30 games. If the Sabres are hitting the reset button again, longer.
  5. Go through the thread concerning the hiring of Adams if you want; I'm not going through the exercise again here.
  6. We don't need to "realize" any such thing. That's the hypothesis some people have put forward, is all.
  7. We don't even have the faintest idea what the roster will look like, either.
  8. Pete Carroll? Really? The Seahawks won one Super Bowl in spite of him and lost one because of him.
  9. If you couldn't pick up that realism was implied, I can't help you, SDS!
  10. Tappen works college and pro football and the Olympics, but I don't know about the rest of and Co.
  11. There's already a thread about this.
  12. I'm thinking Liger was being tongue-in-cheek, too. Oh, and I'll take that pipe...
  13. Not even an hour in, and we're speculating about the possible story behind the story. Never change, SS.
  14. Interesting. I know I like Weekes and Ferraro. I think Chelios will be insightful. Melrose is annoying and I have this hunch that Messier will be, too. Campbell might present a bit of a conflict of interest, but nothing we haven't seen before.
  15. I am a fan of this as well but I think the Columbus/Philly proposal is a little more realistic.
  16. Now watch Jack pull a Jimmy Chitwood and stay here.
  17. Plus we can nickname him "The Merkin" and that will be fun for everybody.
  18. That's the best proposal I've seen in a while.
  19. It goes all the way up to the President! /homer
  20. Dude. The players told some higher-up, and that higher-up failed to take action. Again, this was about a decade ago. That's why it is a story.
  21. We're not the defendant and a lawsuit isn't a criminal case. Again, it appears from the article that the player informed the team *at the time*.
  22. According to the story @LGR4GM linked, at least one of the players reported it.
  23. We've seen it in the NBA. It is very strange indeed; normally the victims are on the other side of the power imbalance.
  24. I see these every year for every sport and I have to think that they are photoshopped.
