  1. It's not "not as good." It's awful. And no need to be sorry.
  2. Doing the math from the article, this guy was about 23 when he was in Slapshot. It's amazing how every 70s movie made people look about 15 years older than actual.
  3. Honestly, two fun-to-watch games in a row. I'm hoping for the trifecta on Sunday afternoon.
  4. "Nothing burger" — originally often seen written as "nothingburger" — was likely first popularized in the early 1950s by a Hollywood gossip columnist named Louella Parsons to describe a person or idea that's essentially a whole lot of, well, nothing. https://www.sfgate.com/politics/article/Where-did-the-term-nothing-burger-actually-11283897.php It has been a weirdly-used term in law ever since. And Aud Smell is a lawyer. (And a pretty fair-to-good one. I'd call him "good" but his ego already is overinflated. But he is not a nothing-burger. And he knows I'm kidding.)
  5. And life goes on. Ukraine wasn't a freaking country when I grew up. I'm doing what I can, and I support them in this war no matter how I spell Kiev. Geez.
  6. Kill this thread. It was born of misinterpretation and it is being kept alive through idiocy.
  7. Sticks up, even. I love these guys. Except Eakin.
  8. SKIN TO WIN (no, not that, @inkman
  9. Sometimes. I do forget "Mumbai" sometimes. And it can get more confusing--is it Myanmar or Burma? England says the latter, we are on the former, the country, which probably wasn't even one until European powers started drawing lines, is divided. Beijing is written on my mind because of Tianmen; Calcutta, because of St. Teresa. (And please, pllleeeaaassseee don't get on her. Her job was not to provide medical help, no matter what the Internet thinks. Her job was palliative care.)
  10. I guess? You grow up spelling something one way, it becomes awfully difficult to change. I get what Ukraine is doing with the spelling change and approve of it, but it'll be a while before I'm used to typing it differently. I'm sure people know what city I mean.
  11. Bingo.
  12. Yeah, but people still only have so much time and so many dollars. Here's another example: I post on TBD about twice a year. You people wish I posted here only that often.
  13. "Kim Pegula told me that “we maybe have 10% that are fans of both teams.” I asked her if she meant among season tickets holders, and she confirmed." Yep, that makes sense and I'd be surprised if it's far off (other than corporate buyers).
  14. Washington is in a weird position. It's not just a national capital; it is a national capital that is about as high-profile as it gets. Paris and London are in that category, and not too many other cities. I headed down there last Sunday. If you didn't know better, you could think that you were in downtown Kiev given the number of parades down Connecticut Avenue and demonstrators everywhere. It was truly wonderful to see all that blue and gold everywhere--those Ukrainians do love their Sabres! Seriously, though, a lot of people on the Internet are jumping to a conclusion that this is being done just to mollify Ovechkin. And maybe it is. Or maybe it is about not having the Verizon Center turn into a massive demonstration. Or maybe it's a hoax. It hasn't been confirmed, outside of the same photo flying around the world, as far as I can tell.
  15. She may be right, when it comes to live attendance (not just STHs, either). I've probably been to 10 Bills games in my life. Maybe even fewer. I like watching them on TV, though. I've also never bought any Bills "stuff" like shirts or hats or whatever for myself.
  16. Isaiah will do just fine in the role. $6M in cap space is too much for what Beasley brings these days.
  17. JohnC gettin' all Putin up in here.
  18. This is a fair point. But still. She is the rule enforcer.
  19. YOU DID NOT DO THIS BEFORE GAMEDAY, CHZ, DID YOU?
  20. I should have added Sabres tickets to my list.
  21. Certainly a strategy that has not failed the Sabres in the last decade-plus at all.
  22. This is doubtless, to me. But there are plenty of other things that we do that are bad economic policy. We spend money at Disney World, or buy boats, or buy clothing that is made for its fashion rather than its durability, or put in new bathrooms or whatever. Sometimes we just want to enjoy the fruits of our labors and who cares whether there is little or no resale value. As long as we are intellectually honest and look at the stadium that way, I'm fine with it. (Well, I'd prefer that everyone can eat first, but that's not going to happen regardless of whether we put in the stadium. I think the average reader gets the point here...)
  23. That was AWESOME! THANK YOU TERRY AND KIM! /troll
  24. What makes it even more satisfying is that the smug jerk lost that game. And the series.
