You're right. There are two scapegoats. Botterill and Housley. Because if they had just made O'Reilly captain, we wouldn't have had four more years of this stuff. As for Eichel's comments, he's clearly pissed that he lost, which is a good quality in a pro athlete. I don't know whether he was treated poorly by the crowd, but if he was, shame on the crowd. It's not his fault that the parade of GMs and coaches couldn't do a thing right during his seven year time here. I would have wanted out, too. The clap back at the crowd was stupid and petulant and came off as such, but he'll get over it.

Are you sure about this? I thought there was a compensation agreement in place for KHL players coming here, but not necessarily vice-versa. This is called "letting perfect get in the way of good" and it encourages, rather than discourages, hesitancy.

I think we're in agreement on most of it. Yes, Eichel was kind of captain for a little while? Peca was the captain of a team that reached the semifinals twice and the finals once. And of course, he wasn't the primary contributor, but there is at least *something* there. Time has passed, too. But I totally agree that these tributes should be very few and far between. That was kind of my initial point and the reason for the comparison to Marshawn Lynch.

Peca is the only one I would think the team would give special attention to, and that's because he was a captain. Plus, whatever they do isn't going to be good enough anyway, and will be another reason why the Pegulas are commie satan worshipers or something. I still think the Sabres had to take a center that year, even if they won the lottery.

So WGR last week raised the question of whether there should be tributes to Sam and Jack during these next two games. I'm going with "no." The Bills didn't have a tribute for Marshawn Lynch (and may not have had the chance to), right? The Sabres drafted these guys, and I've got nothing against them, but they weren't here long enough and weren't impactful enough to warrant special treatment.
