The only concern with a longer term is injury or team struggles. They should still target Merzlikins and Rittich this off season for next year.

6 year terms just might be a little too much for a goalie. Every team comes to regret them eventually. My thinking is IF the team is playoff ready and Ullmark is the reason then you give him the bigger deal at that time. If he would sign for 4 or 5 years at 4 mil per maybe that could work but I would think he and the team would appreciate the flexibility of a two year deal so they can see what happens going forward. If the team is still struggling, he or the team can move on at that point. He'll still young enough to land another good deal.

Players can be acquired at the deadline whether you're contending for a cup or not. I'm hoping the Sabres are trying to do some of that.

If I'm the Sabres I want to keep it at two, three years max and under $5 mil. He's emerging but still has some injury concerns and the team isn't there yet. The lessor deal gives the team some flexibility while they deal with bigger cap hits that need attention. If another team wants to overpay him with something like 5×5 or 6×6 they have to consider matching the 5×5 but they may regret that long term if the team doesn't improve. 6×6 and he's gone Now. If he signs at 4.5×2 and they are a playoff team because of him after year two then you go 6×6 and chase the cup.

4.5×2 and go from there. If he's leading the team into the playoffs by the end of year two then they can revisit it at that time.

That sucks. They have been pretty good all year at keeping games close or overcoming early deficits but ***** happens.

I was starting to imagine a team where Montour stayed and played well, Borgen returned and Risto got traded for some young skilled winger for Jack. Then I realized marinuana is a hell of a drug.

I thought R2 played well for his debut and If Okposo had his stick down he might have a tap in assist on his first shift. His centering pass went right through the paint. I don't think Okposo was expecting the creativity. He made some other plays throughout the night also where he showed an active stick and ability to win puck battles. He's at the very least a useful 4th line guy next season.

No playoffs as of right now

They were looking at Rittich too. His first appearance probably cemented that. Can't take chance with a possible Stanley Cup run.

I think you are right to be excited. No situation is too big for him. He finds himself on the right side of most puck battles, has good positioning and an active stick in all zones. He will hit and can take one. Pretty much nothing not to like but I don't know if he will come up this year. He could probably hold his own but it might be better for him to stay down and be better than most of the opposition for now. Love the kid!
