No offers have been accepted and this story keeps growing. The more time goes on the more I'm wondering.... What if they just put him on ice for a year and let him heal up (LTIR) then bring him back with a seasoned young core and new draft additions next season. The Lightning sat their star all season and brought him back for the playoffs. There are plenty of opinions on whether that should be allowed but the rules say it is. This is assuming rest will heal Jack. Has there been an update on that? If surgery is needed I'd take the same approach and trading him would definitely be off the table at that point anyways.

We don't even know if he needs surgery. He, or someone in his camp, wants an experimental surgery. Rest has been prescribed and we have no idea if that is working or not. So..he could be ready to start the season. We just don't know.

Maybe he was sick of hearing how the NYR are his best option and to wait till the Sabres cave and trade him there for Drurys old hockey mitts. Plenty of money and assets to change course

So, hypothetically speaking, let's say Jack plays 15-20 games to show people he's healthy. What happens if he scores 10-15 points and the Sabres go 11-4 or 14-6. Does that change anything on either side?

The search landed exactly where it should have. On a guy who can work with and develop young players. Someone who will coach them through mistakes and put them in position to overcome or correct them. A vet coach chewing up and spitting these guys out wouldn't move the needle forward IMO.

Hoping for a few more RJ calls for the ages, he deserves to go out on a high note. These young kids may provide a few of those opportunities even if they are mostly in losing efforts.
