  1. Sigh. You said ""If we are so worried about cap hit we can give him 8.5 million his first three years then we will give him 4.25 the last four" That violates the 35% variance rule. Dude.
  2. No no. You cannot have more than 35 percent year-over-year and no year less than 50 percent of the highest year is permitted.
  3. Its not the cap hit now, it's the cap hit towards the end of the contract. It's not the cash that matters. You know that's not permitted by the cba right?
  4. His cap hit is $5M, he made 3.5 last year and 6.5 this year for a total of 10M over two years. Its a 5m cap hit and that's how GMs calculate these things going forward. It's the AAV. Especially on a team where cash isnt an issue, it's important to forecast out. Even if you're paying callahan $4M 6 years from now you dont want to have dead space..
  5. Oreilly is making $5M per. Staal is getting $6M per and is only 23 years old. Not turning 30. Both of those guys are young and arguably better two way forwards. OReilly has 20 goals this year already.
  6. No we are not. He scored 54 points once,
  7. Joe thorton, patrick marleau, dion phanuef, all recently signed for what Callahan is asking 6-7M. He has never come close to their production.
  8. I mean most of his seasons were better than Callahan's best. There are plenty of reasons to love Callahan but he isnt a offensive player and he is no where as good as Drury was.
  9. I would kind of take that as a NO
  10. Their kids would certainly have unique eyes
  11. He is not and never will be on par with Drury, who had way more offensive output. Its not even close. This article explains exactly why I don't want Callahan at that cap hit. Ridiculous.
  12. +1 All fair points. The roster is so horrible, and the fixes not so apparent that it's easy to see them being awful next year whether they try to or not. I still think for a team that's trying to build a winning culture, that having a transparent "tank" season would contradict that concept.
  13. Yes, he's a quality player with some scoring and wouldn't break the bank.
  14. Yes, i meant it more as they arent going sit tight and do nothing to improve the roster in the short term. Also they aren't going to field a team of scrubs to manipulate draft spots. I just don't see PLF setting up the roster to be the worst in the league next year. And I agree it's pretty bad this year. No one, including me, has said you can't or won't get a quality player at that position. I think some people are delusional if they think the plan is to field an AHL team to tank for next years draft.
  15. 1) There is no way a person as competitive as PLF is going to let this team tank. He and TM have hinted they dont see this as a long rebuild and another 2-3 years of awfulness for a 25% chance of the top pick isnt gonna fly. 2) Its the back half of Callahan's contract we would need to concerned about. Landing a declining player and overpaying is cap disaster. A few years from now, assuming we draft and sign some players, we might need that extra 5-7M tied up by a bad contract. This is especially true given what FAs might be available who have scoring touch.
  16. They do not all come here for healthcare. Most "medical tourists" are from nations seriously lacking in high end medicine, mainly South America and the middle east. Very few come from western "socialized" medicine countries. And when they do its for extremely specialized care at places like the Mayo Clinic, not for routine care. Interesting how no one mentions US citizens traveling abraod to seek better AND cheaper health care. In fact, most medical tourism is NOT people coming to the US, it's people going to Brazil India and Asia. The American health care system is wholly insufficient, and when you look at where it ranks in most categories it's utterly pathetic, we lost to some third world countries. The ACA is not perfect but saying its a failure or success at this point is only showing partisan colors and no real analysis, it's way too early.
  17. You know we had a national election based on the ACA and people voted for it. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you had it rammed down your throat.
  18. Any way you want to cut it, whether its the system, injuries, or declining skills, his role has been diminished this year and they arent willing to break the bank for him. Our team needs high end talent desperately. Leadership and grinders are far more easy to find. I wouldn't want to sign RC if it would in any way impact a long term deal for a talented scorer. We have enough grinders who can't score.
  19. He turns 29 Next month, and grinders like him, who already have issues with injuries, and block a ton of shots (already broken his hand x2 and his leg), arent worth big money long term deals. His ice time is already going down at age 28.
  20. Yes he didn't want to leave Tampa and didnt have to sign for 5 years. He took a slight discount to stay. The point remains the RC is not a $6M-$7M player for 6 or 7 years. He won't play that long and his contract stays on the books.
  21. That's TOI per game. So it accounts for that.
  22. No he doesnt really kill penalties. He's on the PK less than Stafford, Girgs, and Clarke freaking macarthur. He's 150th on PK time for all forwards in the NHL.
  23. Staal plays center, more minutes, and kills penalties. He is a much better player and stays healthy.
