If the sabres do the 7 forward 3 dmen 1 goalie route, they would have to protect risto, Bogo (his NMC forces you to protect him) and whatever LHD we get via trade - Fowler etc. If we go the 8 skaters, 1 goalie (route) we can protect all 4 dmen, O'Reilly, Kane, a UFA (say stamkos for fun) and say Ennis or foligno.

Prob is if you keep him you have to protect him next year and end up losing mccabe. He can certainly play in our top 4 though

Goligoski has a very weak playoff if you watched any of the games. He's good at passing but lacks any physicality. He was harassed a bit in the playoffs

Vesey is better than goligoski at his respective positions imho. More importantly Phoenix sent a 5 for exclusive rights That go away 7/1 (actually 6/25 when teams can start talking to UFAs). Vesey's exclusive rights are until 8/15.

Yep - Having him not be able to sign until Aug 15 complicates the Jul 1 free agency. It would be like unwrapping Christmas gifts early BUT I would be very happy if we traded a third for the rights to Vesey.

The cap was supposed t stay the same or go down before the players agreed to throw in the 5% equity thing. This is going to help cap strapped teams a little and hurt the Sabres who were $25m (now $28m) under the cap

I like Okposo a lot but not at $7m for 5+ years, like he's probably going to get, If you're going to pay $7m for him, ante up another $4m per for Stamkos. Getting Stamkos, Vesey and a LHD like Fowler makes this team a playoff team and a dangerous playoff team in that.

I would never ever trade Sam, not sure where you got that from?? Just sad Puj the Fin will turn out to be a great one like Sam, possibly better eventually. CLB wants a center - wants that 6'6" guy badly, but doesn't want to reach for him at #3. The #3 can be had for less than Sam, with Hartnell in tow too maybe? Trade up for #3,sign Vesey, trade for Fowler (girgs being the main piece going back), sign Yandle, re-sign Johnson to backup lehner and call it an awesome off season. This can all be done too well under the cap. We would end up losing a very good player to the expansion draft next year but so be it.

Eichel and Vesey work out together in the Boston Area too. I think we have a good chance at signing him, maybe not as good as him going to Boston, but a chance. Hopefully Eichel passes a lot to him this summer.I would have been happier if he was in Nantucket with Eichel over memorial day weekend, instead of Gronk and Johnny Hockey, but what can you do?

Grabbing Hartnell and moving up to #3 is a no-brainer. Hartnell scored almost 30 goals last year, his contracts is over in 3 tears and Puljujari is a Reinhart clone who skates better and is slightly bigger. Where do I sign?
