    No I was thinking NFL style contracts that are front loaded with lots of unlilely to be hit bonuses and if a player is cut early then the remaining cap hit is absorbed immediately, or in the case of a trade the remaining bonus money is the only money that is accelerated Obviously the NHL cap is a much different beast...

    But the hit changes if a player is cut or traded.. right ? I seriously doubt Moulson is here for all 5 of those years I'm more familiar with NFL style caps and contracts so maybe its different in the NHL

    I'm sure Murray and Company worded the contract where there won't be much of a cap hit on those last couple of years. But its going to be 3 years before the Sabres are solid playoff contenders again anyways. Plus I doubt Murray wants to tie up an extra 2 mill per season on 1 player when he will be looking to add pieces in the years ahead There are plenty of Hockey Players producing well in their mid 30's..

    Why ? We need solid vets that can bring along the young guns, and we have to hit the cap floor. Over paying for a high quality player like Moulson who genuinely wants to help Buffalo with our rebuild is money very well spent

    Got to love it. Trade Moulson for assets and sign him back a few months later. Very happy to see Moulson back in Buffalo

    This team is 3 years away from making an impact FA signing like that. He would have to be willing to waste the next few years of his career

    That would be awesome. He's a great player and he liked it here even though we were tanking. He'll get overpaid but he is a great mentor.

    Yes and those offers did nothing to offset the penalties that could of came down the road. It is that simple.. WRAP YOUR HEAD AROUND IT. Nobody was offering enough or what it would take to offset that potential penalty. Murray rahter have the cap space in the future guaranteed. I have no issues with that because we have a plenty of assets in our system and plenty of firepower to add more in the short term

    No Murray is just mopping up Reiger's messes.... nothing mis-managed by Murray.. just dealing with the what he was dealt. Obviously nobody wanted Ehrhoff with the contract Darcy gave him

    You take Ekblad and you only trade the pick if Edmonton or Calgary completely overpay. But if that was the case Florida would of made the trade already.

    this is my fantasy draft. Reinahrt (@#2) is the play-maker, and Draisaitl (@#3) is the immovable big man that sets up the screens works the offensive boards and knocks in those rebounds We have Plenty of ammunition but would a team like Edmonton, that is pretty much not ready to compete, want to give up their high draft pick. I think they would be smart to do what the Sabres are doing. Blow it up, tank, and rebuild. We have Ehrhoff Stewart Meyers Stafford and 2nd round picks to dangle. If a deal can be done ahead of the draft and we can land a pick in in the teens or higher we might have a chance to repackage that pick and move up some more.

    So... Can the Sabres pull of the miracle and pick up both Reinhart and Draisaitl? We have lots of assets to do something real big. But would it be worth it ?

    If St Louis in in the Conference finals we get the 1st. That should happen before June 1 OR if Miller signs a long term deal

    Don't forget in 2-4 years when we need to bring in some experienced talent to further our push for a Stanley Cup other teams will be tanking and we will have a pipeline of prospects to trade

    I would rather have a pick and a prospect because this team won't be going to the playoffs for another season or 2 and Moulson will be on the downside when we finally do. I want ot see this team stick with the plan they started. Tank and load up and then revisit UFA's and trades when the teams youth is coming up and making an impact It would be massively dissapointing to see this team just trying to make the playoffs instead of building a true championship worthy team

    the last thing this franchise needs is undersized forwards. We tried that route plenty of times. It don't work. Big and fast and young, with emphasis on BIG AND FAST is the way to win championships

    Key Arena is very small and would require the loss of seats to make it NHL rink size..     Ya build through the draft, and in the NHL the only chance you have at offensive studs is to have the #1 pick.. Just ask Pittsburgh And no other NHL team is going to trade away there very top prospects. You're going to get lots of upside guys but you're not picking up a 100 points a year guy or a 50+ goals a season player, which is what this franchise desperately lacks That is why the tank is on. No way does this team compete for the playoffs next year without sacrificing the plan they are on now. Too much youth on the roster, and even with the vets we have now they still aren't capable of winning regulalry

    I agree.. the thought that this Sabres team will even be in the conversation regarding playoffs in 2014-2015 makes me chuckle.. This team will be ready for playoffs only when all there prospects mature to the point they are capable of winning on their own.. Then the UFA and trading other prospects for top players could put us over the top. BUT IT IS NOT HAPPENING NEXT YEAR... We have another year of serious pain at minimum.... the only joy will be watching prospects develop with the occasional ellipse of what could be

    the lineup will be a bunch of inexperience and B players designed to tank the rest of this season and the next. Hopefully by 2016 will be making a big splash with some top UFA's to compliment our up and coming young core. Until then there is no salvation, just tank and reload

    Once the trade deadline comes most of the players that can keep us winning these meaningless games will most likely be gone and we will fulfill the tank

    our drafts where weak with Reiger. Lots of undersized forwards and never any real scoring prowess. He made the occasional splash trade but overall his vision for a championship team never really produced, and the time when it did we had to get rid of some of the players that took us there, but those players were not drafted.. players like Breire and Drury that being said our recent pipeline has improved but it was too late for Reiger, and I don;t think any of us trusted him to be able to complete the transition properly
