:( My dad is still suffering pretty badly from the aftereffects of his radiation treatment. His last one was Oct. 20th, and we thought he'd be improving by now. He's also losing weight because he can't / won't eat since it's painful and he's feeling nauseous a lot of the time, which doesn't help recovery. My stepmom, who is the only one able to work right now, lost her job yesterday when Highmark laid off her entire department after outsourcing their jobs to India "to remain competitve in the marketplace." She hated the job and they knew this might be coming, but the timing is terrible. Thank God she's supposed to get a severance package that *should* include 7 months pay and the ability to keep their insurance for now.

I think I could eat lasagna (homemade, not the microwavable crap) for a week straight, but otherwise agreed! Usually if I make something in a large batch I'll plan to freeze a bunch of it, but I've never tried freezing cooked lentils and suspect they'd get mushy. It's a trade-off between the convenience of not having to figure out what's for lunch all week and not wanting the lunch I've packed by the end of it, lol.

Nice. I've heard of Blue Apron and love the concept because (as you know) cooking for one is difficult when most recipes are intended to feed 4-6 people, but right now it's not in the budget for me. Cool to hear how varied the recipes they send are, though. I felt like I hadn't cooked in months between staying with friends during the week in Maryland and not wanting to mess up the kitchen at the house on weekends, so now that I'm finally in a permanent place with a functional kitchen, I'm happy to be able to do it again. I made green curried lentils with sweet potato and spinach on Saturday, and it's good but it's going to end up being 7 servings for me and I'll be thoroughly sick of eating it by Wed. this week.

lol I'd posted a pic a long time ago, so I figured most people already knew what I looked like. (That being said, who doesn't appreciate a good compliment?)

lol not yet, but my mom is already planning to fly in and go to the Jan. 20th game with me, and you can bet I'll be rocking a Sabres jersey! ;) Nope - Andrew.

Well I only have a one bedroom apartment, but I do have a full-size sleeper sofa and a queen size air mattress, so if you ever want to come visit, hit me up! :)

That does sound amazing! And so does the scotch, although in far lesser quantities than you consumed, lol.

Thanks!

Why thank you, kind sirs. I suspect I was for a guy I dated briefly in high school, but not currently.

Hi back! :) And yes, all is great so far! -
Wow, more than a month with no activity in here? Maybe this thread will die a natural death and be absorbed into the eating/drinking thread (and I'm okay with that... it's had an impressive run!). Anywho, thought of you guys last week because apparently Colorado has some whiskey to offer! Tried these three in a flight at nearby bar last Sat.: Breckenridge - a little hot, but good flavor and opens up nicely with a little water Fireside - more mellow, solid offering Tin Cup - my favorite of the three -- no water or ice needed, very sippable with good flavor (sorry I can't do fancy tasting notes like weave!) Also tried another new one tonight that was a housewarming gift: Alberta Rye Whisky Dark Batch. Initial impression was reminiscent of Bacardi Oakheart (a little sweet), but more heat to this; it has a lot of backbone and some spice that would hold up well in a cocktail. I'm looking forward to trying that in an Old Fashioned in place of my usual Bulleit Rye.

My furniture was delivered on Monday evening and I've been off all week to unpack. Place is still a bit of a mess, but getting close and feeling more like home every day. Oh, and Rocky Mountain National Park is definitely awesome:

Wow, cd... good for you! I'm guessing Chris in UT has similar pics, but he hasn't posted here in a long time. Nothing new here, but this is me:

Just finished watching here on delay as well. (I miss you all!) Mountain time is going to be an adjustment, for sure. Fun game, Ullmark looked good, Eichel's goal was SUH-WEET, and O'Reilly's pass to set up Deslauriers's (sp?) was a thing of beauty. I look forward to more nights when I can just chill and watch the Sabres once things finally settle down here! Oh, and the video montage from a few nights ago (can't recall which game) with Gionta, Ennis, and Girgensons about "the wait is over"? Chills. For real. It feels so great to love this team again. -
lol in this instance (in my usage, anyhow), PTFO = Peace The F*ck Out ;) Still jealous! Someday when I have the money and I'm less of a chicken I'll do it. After three days of driving, I made it to the new place in Denver this afternoon. Super tired and have no furniture aside from an air mattress, but man it's great to be somewhere permanent again. After making a grocery store run I spent my first evening here with sushi and a Sabres victory. :)

Thanks! And lol I wish Buffalo were on the way! I'll have to make a trip back at some point to meet up with the Buffalo / Rochester crew again for a game and some more whiskey. :)

I've thought about it ever since I went to California the first time (2008), but I can't believe I'm actually doing it! So excited to see through the plan that was set in motion way back in June.

Sold my house on Tuesday. While it was painful writing a larger check to sell the place than I did to buy it 9 years prior, I am thankful to have it off my hands and to no longer be responsible for all the repairs. Tonight I head to Delaware to spend the weekend with my dad, and then I start the drive to Denver with stops to see friends along the way. Can't wait to finally get settled into my new place and explore the area!

Today is my last day working in Baltimore. Thank God; other than Inner Harbor, I hate this GD town! Can't wait to PTFO after work and head to see my dad.

Yowza, Swamp... that sounds scary, but good to hear it sounds like she's turned the corner.
