This is a terribly lame complaint in the grand scheme of things (condolences to all who have lost someone recently), but this is the type of thing that makes me twitchy at work:

Good man, Wyld.

Thanks! My new eye doc seems like he keeps up on research and the like (he was putting together a lecture on biofilms recently), but it does seem odd that as far as the dry eye he's mostly saying to give the Restasis more time. What kind of medication needs 6+ months to take effect? Sheesh. But NINE capsules/day? Surprised you weren't having the same side effects as Jo... Edit: Almost forgot -- ground flaxmeal goes rancid quickly, so you're better off buying flax seeds and grinding your own (I use a cheap coffee grinder) in small batches. Oh dear... may need to re-think trying this, lol. I've been taking ~1500 mg/day of fish oil with no problems, so maybe I'll be okay with adding a small amount of flaxseed oil. And I'll echo the others saying you should see a doc, Jo! That doesn't sound good.

That sounds amazing... like a Kentucky take on tiramisu. Mmmm.

Interesting... I've been taking fish oil for years to help my cholesterol, and my eye doctor just this past week suggested upping the dose could help my dry eye (been on Restasis for about 3 months so far). I don't really want to double my fish oil since it's pricey (I take Barlean's) and can cause stomach upset, but maybe supplementing with flaxseed oil is a way to go. Any particular brands you like, PA?

I didn't realize Buttermilk was such a common name for falls, haha. Banana pudding with bourbon! Go on...

TIL that vodka and rubbing alcohol can be used to remove equipment grease from clothing. Pretty nifty.

Went on a solid hike last Sunday near Boulder. We took Shadow Canyon up to Bear Mountain and South Boulder Peak, which was about 7.5 miles round trip and almost 3000 ft in elevation. Tiring, but totally worth it.

off topic What I do to reduce my environmental footprint...

Good stuff, guys. I do most of the same things SDS and Eleven (among others) listed. I'm a hippie at heart. :) Good man. As for fabrics, I never knew how to recycle them, either, until I found this: http://www.donatestuff.com/ Perfect solution for things like worn-out socks that have no useful life left in them. (Of course, they take stuff in good condition as well.) If they don't have a center near you, they'll send you a prepaid UPS bag for shipping! Some other useful recycling links: http://www.purewow.com/ecs/5953.htm?sid=554834 http://greatist.com/health/how-to-recycle-anything -
Nothing changed here except a routine security update for Android... No idea why that would influence something so specific, though. Very odd. I'll check tomorrow if it's the same on my desktop at work.

Not sure if it's just my tablet, but now I'm no longer seeing the multi quote button as an option. Still have report and regular quote.

That new trailer is fookin' amazing. -
So sorry, Claude. :( Same thing here when I had to put down a family pet that I'd never felt close to and had been out of my life for several years back in 2006... was totally fine until we were at the vet and it was happening. Cherish the memories and know that you will see them again one day.

That's nuts! It's like the curving bullet shots in Wanted.

Very belated congrats to the Menaces! Hope the little ones are almost ready to go home at this point. Been an odd week here, but in a (mostly) awesome way; traveled to PA Tues. to see my dad and attend my former labmate's thesis defense on Wed. morning with the intent of coming back Wed. night. (He did a great job and it was nice to catch up with him and a few other people I knew from my old job.) Freak blizzard in Denver closed the airport there, and with flights already being full from Easter and spring break travel, they couldn't get me home until Friday night. Normally this wouldn't be so great, but in this case I have friends who live nearby so I was able to crash with them for a few days and see them and the dogs when I thought I'd miss them this trip. Bonus!

Now that was a fun game. Only got to watch the second half, but man is Ray ever right when he talked about getting a glimpse of the future for this team... awesome. That wrister by Eichel for the GWG was sick!
-
Knew I was missing something Fantastic; he's finally seeing improvement! :) He's done with 4 of the 10 weeks, and he's already been able to decrease his use of pain meds. It's a long process to taper off some of the heavy duty stuff, but he's getting there. And that's funny about her vision! Was she farsighted before? My dad is VERY nearsighted and his vision has actually gotten a little worse during the treatments, but they told him it's not unusual and should be temporary.

Starting early, haha. Congrats, weave... bittersweet leaving folks behind, but Monday brings much excitement. Enjoy your weekend!
-
Great point. My brother would probably agree with you; he wasn't ready for college at 18, but now he's almost done with his Master's degree and loves his chosen field of study. ;) You said it nicer than I did, anyhow!

It's been an annoying week, but shaping up to be a good couple of days on tap: - It snowed here today and I get to go snowboarding on Sunday (hooray for the mountains!). - I have an interview on Monday morning for a job I'd applied to in early Feb. and forgotten about. I may not be able to take the position (depends on a lot of things), but it sounds like a really interesting group and either way it's good to network for the future and to know my resume is getting some attention. - My friend and former labmate in PA is defending his PhD thesis next Wed., so I'm going back for a quick trip to see his final seminar. It'll be nice to catch up with he and my old boss, and I'll get to fit in a day with my dad and stepmom in the same trip as a bonus. Bring on the weekend!

 (We agree on this.) :P

More corporate inversion nonsense... this stuff is nauseating. Why it's allowed in our tax code is beyond me, and I think the politicians who cry about balancing the budget and needing to slash programs while simultaneously supporting these evasions need to be called out for their hypocrisy: http://www.thenation.com/article/stop-a-drug-company-from-dodging-35-billion-in-taxes/?nc=1

I agree with the idea of a sliding scale type of assistance rather than a free ride to make sure students take it seriously. But it's to the point where people who can and should go are unable to because it's currently unaffordable. On the flip side, we also need to stop telling *everyone* to go to college, because lots of jobs don't actually require a degree and it's insane to have people going heavily into debt getting a liberal arts degree that has nothing to do with their eventual career.
-
Ah, now I understand; I thought your question was getting at how this would be paid for. In that case, I should think the answer is obvious: to prevent young people from starting their lives so heavily in debt that they are often unable to do other things that would generally benefit our economy, like buying a home, starting a business, etc.
