People at work wasting my time by being obtuse and unclear when asking for things. I have too much sh!t to do already now that I'm the only one here, and when you send me emails asking for information I already sent you and then asking for files I don't know how to generate from a massive software program I have yet to learn (after telling me you don't need them yet) the day after I worked 14 hours just trying to keep my head above water, I'm gonna be a little pissy about it. So not in the mood to deal with stupid people today.

Thanks! SS is awesome. :)

Thanks, lady! :)

Haha he does (or did; he's still working on growing it back since the radiation killed off a lot of the hair on the right side of his face). Dave Roff (I think just Roff should pull them up) -- the link looks like it's generic when the page first loads, but their entry is further down the screen. But searching will find them, too. Thanks, everyone! I have no idea what their odds are, but it can't hurt to try. :)

Thanks!! :)

Those of you who follow this thread regularly know just how much my dad and stepmom have been through in the last couple of years. I convinced him to submit an entry to Bankrate.com's Money Makeover contest, and if anyone is so inclined, you can read his entry and vote for them here (scroll way down): http://bit.ly/2j6OBzy Week two of trying to hold down the fort myself at work, and there just aren't enough hours in the day. I appreciate the vote of confidence from higher-ups about my ability to get it done, but there's so much to do and I'm so very tired.

My supervisor got fired yesterday. I've never heard of anyone getting fired in this line of work; usually ineffective people are left to bring down the morale of others. The timing is awful because we have an enormous project deadline in April and I'm now the only one here, but everyone above is happy with me (so far) and wants to make sure we all succeed, which is good. I feel awful for the guy, though... he has 4 kids (one of whom is headed off to college next year) and his wife only works part-time, so he was the breadwinner. :( His firing wasn't undeserved, but it was out of the blue and I hope he'll be able to find something else in the next couple of weeks (they're paying him for another month or so).

LOL I hadn't seen them until you pointed it out... indeed, awesome all-around.

Just had a chance to watch the video... I'm so sorry, MODO. Best of luck figuring out your mom's treatment options, and remember what Eleven said about doctors and timelines; my grandfather went home on Hospice with an inoperable brain tumor and by some miracle ended up living another 12 or 13 years before eventually passing from lymphoma. It sounds like you are all ready and willing to fight, so try to be strong for one another and enjoy each other's company for as long as you have the opportunity. Sabrespace and and Buffalo will be here waiting whenever you need us.

I didn't see Eleven's post until after this thread was already closed last week, so belated congrats, man... you deserve all the happiness that comes your way (and then some). My dad was finally able to get the contractor and insurance agent to hammer things out yesterday, so they officially have the green light to move forward on repairs. It stinks that they did end up losing this entire week, but the PODS container will be delivered tomorrow and they'll start packing out the house on Monday morning. Probably two more weeks of living in a small hotel room and having the cats boarded, but at least things progress will be made very soon towards getting them back home.

That's amazing, and

Geez... by 33 I had only one remaining, and by 35 I had no grandparents left on either side of the family. You come from good stock, apparently.

Yikes. Did you end up telling your wife, or decide to wait for more info from the doc?

The ongoing saga of my dad and stepmom's house repairs continues. For some inexplicable reason, neither the insurance company nor the contractor seem to be in any rush to sort things out so the actual repair work can get started. SERVPRO declared Sunday afternoon that the walls and floor were dry enough to begin repairs, and supposedly this contractor was available to start right away, but it took him until late Tuesday to get the quote together for the insurance company, and their claim rep with insurance didn't bother to look at it and call them until late in the afternoon on Wed. to say she needed a more detailed quote from him. The contractor balked and grumbled about "not having time" to give them the detail they wanted, which is asinine considering he probably already had those details elsewhere from generating the quote (square footage of the rooms to be re-floored, etc). So here it is, Thursday midday, and my dad is still trying to get the insurance rep to communicate with the contractor so they can get everything approved and start scheduling the work. They've lost pretty much an entire week for no reason other than that these two people can't be bothered to do their jobs. :censored: And I've had what I can only guess is tonsillitis (not strep) since last Friday night, which ruined my fun plans for last weekend. Last night was the first time in 4 days I've been able to sleep through the night without waking up feeling like my throat was swelling shut.

Condolences for your loss, we've. He sounds like an amazing man, and he will continue to watch over you with pride from above.

The slogan "Say it with beef" is just begging to be abused... makes me think of this classic: http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/snl-digital-short-d-in-a-box/n12100?snl=1

This cracks me up (mostly because I have a close female friend who would vastly prefer this to chocolates or flowers for Valentine's Day): http://www.insidehook.com/nation/beef-jerky-rose-bouquets

One more piece of advice; if you go down that route, make sure you have a good feeling about the loan officer you work with, because later in the process you'll spend as much time interacting with them as your realtor, and a good one can really make your life easier through the application process. If you like your realtor and trust them, they should be able to recommend someone that they also trust and have worked with in the past. Of course, don't feel obligated to go with someone just because your realtor recommended them, but it's worth checking them out.

Bueller? A bright spot in my dad and stepmom's saga today: sounds like insurance is finally coming around to the idea that they can't just move back into the house anytime soon based on the amount of repairs needed and is agreeing to cover a POD container so they can pack-out the house in preparation for redoing the flooring throughout. Also, they found a contractor who can start next week (as long as SERVPRO gives the green light on everything being dry enough); it's one of the guys from their cancer support group who has since recovered and has a construction business, so he is going to handle everything for them. Thank God for small favors! Hopefully they'll only be out of the house another two weeks if everything goes according to plan.

You should see how bad it is in the Denver metro area... I was renting a 1 BR, 885 ft2 apartment (granted with full size laundry and a detached garage) without any utilities included for over $1500/month. This was in the suburbs, too (maybe 20-30 min. from downtown). Crazy rent prices are what changed my mind about buying a house again so soon, but the only reason I did it knowing I might not stay in this house very long is that I'm confident I can rent (or sell) the place when I'm ready to move again. That would absolutely not have been the case back in PA, and whether it makes sense for you (d4rk and Jo) now depends very much on the market in Buffalo.
