:clapping: Some of those are hilarious!

It's never that bad; I wake up as he's doing it so I just clean it right away and wash the blanket on top of the bed. New complaint: my current boss never has her sh!t together, and it makes it hard for me to get my own work done. Last week we'd arranged to have a conference call today at 3pm, and this morning she e-mails us asking which number she's calling for our 1pm meeting. We e-mailed back around 9:30am to let her know and ask if she'd rather meet at 1pm than 3pm as we had scheduled, and she JUST wrote back saying 3pm. Except now I've already rearranged my day once and haven't started what I needed to start because I was trying to make sure I was free at 1pm. I can't wait to be done here, even if the new department is fubar.

lol on the 'crop dusting' -- yeah, I've experienced that as well. He's actually never peed in his sleep but he does poop, which is still gross but at least doesn't require full stripping of the bed. And wow, your dog sounds like Bruce Willis' character from Unbreakable! As for the job, both my (soon-to-be) boss and I are frustrated but have done all we can as far as getting it fixed. A lot of it is an unfortunate by-product of having exactly zero competing institutions within a 1.5 hour radius. He's looking for ways to try and supplement my salary down the line, but I'm just glad I was already planning on leaving this place within the next year or two when the bf gets a job elsewhere.

1) F'n tired. My dog, whom I love dearly, is 16 1/2 and on occasion will start going to the bathroom in his sleep (and he sleeps on my bed). That woke me up at 4:30 this morning. 2) I'm taking a job in a different department starting in January, partially because funding his low in my current lab but also because I'm ready for a change. That in itself is sweet, but after the new boss and I went back and forth for a few weeks and came to an agreement on a salary that is appropriate and affordable for him, HR has thoroughly mucked everything up and decided I need to be hired not only at a lower salary, but also into the wrong job title which will likely make it more difficult to get promoted later. They actually had the nerve to tell my new boss he had no authority to offer me a position and to discuss salary with me. Anyone familiar with how academic research labs are funded will understand just how infuriating that mentality is.

lol - the crazy thing is, it's a conference call because she's in England, so not only is it late for us, it's going to be 8pm for her! And this call was already rescheduled once because she completely forgot to call us last Thursday. :wallbash:

My boss rescheduled our conference call from 1pm to 3pm today. So much for leaving early.

former FBI director to conduct independent investigation into the University's actions

That's a nice turnaround from shutting off the projector in an important meeting while your fly was down. :D
-
The NCAA is going to investigate.

Why drag the North American Marlon Brando Look-Alikes into this?

Trying a new one tonight: Collingwood Canadian whisky on the rocks. Very drinkable and fairly light. If you can get past the fact that the bottle looks like a giant display from the fragrance counter at a department store, I'd recommend it.

I think the difference here is that you are referring to just the football program, while Eleven is referring to the entire University system. Penn State is probably one of the largest employers in PA, with 24 campuses and almost 150,000 students, faculty, and staff among them. The collateral damage goes well beyond State College and a few hundred people. How about this: PSU alumni have donated almost $300,000 over a few days towards RAINN, the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization The students at University Park also participate in an annual fundraiser called THON, which has raised millions of dollars for the Four Diamonds Fund.

I don't disagree that his point is valid; only that it had nothing to do with my point. Even in the absence of a credit downgrade, NCAA sanctions, and legal fees, the hit in credibility is absolutely going to have negative effects on student enrollment and philanthropic donations going forward. Edit: just saw Drane's newer post, so it appears we agree on the last part.
-
I'm not sure what this has to do with my post. I'm simply trying to put a human face on the institution so many are ready to tear down based on the actions (and inactions) of a relatively small minority, and you're talking about donations and/or student enrollment? Non sequitur.

A reminder that the actions of a few individuals do not define the entire University: Penn State students organize candlelight vigil to show support for victims of abuse "The vigil, attended by several thousand students and other members of the Penn State community, was held to remember victims of abuse and their families."
-
You're probably right, lol.

Something tells me you'll have a new installment for the whisky thread later on in the weekend.

Neither am I, actually... something about the media and everyone jumping so quickly to crucify people before knowing the whole story that really bothers me. Probably also has to do with the fact that I'm surrounded by Penn State alums and trying to remain impartial.
-
I certainly hope you're never selected for jury duty. We can agree to disagree on this one.
-
Like I said, not trying to say anyone is innocent... just saying it's possible the investigation was done on the D-L and minimal people were involved at that point since it was his first accusation and they may not have wanted to risk smearing an innocent (now very likely guilty) man. It's also entirely possible you're both correct and JoePa knew the whole time. I'm just admitting I don't know the whole story and am trying not to judge people based on half of the information.

Apologies if this is addressed in the Grand Jury report (I haven't read it), but just because the timeline indicates things that are now known to have happened in 1998 doesn't necessarily mean everyone was aware of them at that time. After 2002 and the eyewitness account by McQueary that went up the chain they have no excuses, but before? It's not clear to me that everyone had to have known about it prior to then. Not saying people aren't guilty; just trying to keep an open mind and wait for all the facts to come out.

Anyone know if this is worth buying? Jim Murray's Whisky Bible I already have the Michael Jackson book that someone recommended earlier, so not sure if this would be redundant or not.

If the Penn State Board of Trustees thought firing just Paterno and Spanier was going to solve their PR problem, they were wrong: Joe Paterno Fired, Others Not: Attorney General's Office Has 'Concern' Also includes descriptions of the main players in the scandal, what they knew, what they did and what happened to them.
