Someone I know posted this article and it's an interesting read: http://www.johnziegler.com/editorials_details.asp?editorial=219 Sounds like the Freeh report isn't quite as strong on the evidence as all the media would suggest, which certainly doesn't prove anyone innocent; it only means that proof of guilt / complicity is still lacking. And FWIW, no matter which it is, I still can't get behind the idea of the death penalty. They can easily clean house and replace everyone even remotely involved with the program (already including some without guilt) without shutting it down and penalizing students who had nothing to do with this. Surely the NCAA can slap them with fines or do something to curtail their financial benefit from the program without closing it down altogether?

Awesome story, Eleven. For me: I'm F'N exhausted, but this afternoon I found out I finally succeeded in generating the resource we need to finish some critical experiments at work and get my research paper published. The details would bore most folks, but I've been trying to get this thing made for probably two months now and had hit barrier after barrier along the way. So relieved that part is done so I can move on and do the "real" experiments! Edit: just read the story DeLuca linked, and that's great, too. Not bright of the owners to take a dog to a fireworks show, but a happy ending nonetheless (and who doesn't love a happy ending?).

Fixed. ;) And as a former restaurant employee, thank you, CV, for being one of the few who recognize that the waitresses are not there to babysit / dodge your kids while you eat!

As humid as it's been lately, I'm not sure it'd work! Plus I'm paranoid about bugs getting in my clothes, lol.

My dryer broke Tuesday evening and I can't get it fixed for at least another two weeks. Ugh. I forgot how much I hate having to get quarters and go to the laundromat.

Chz and Doc have it... Pretty sure his avatar is a pic of himself at a mic on stage. And good lord, I take a few days away from here and I'm totally behind on all the threads... And there's nothing even going on as far as trades, lol.

Late to the party, but congrats, man!!

Thank you. I realize Gerbe may never be a regular in the NHL due to his size, but I disagree that there's no place for him on the team. What he lacks in stature he makes up for in effort and positive attitude. He's more talented than Ellis and McCormick, and the guy is selfless and brings it every shift. He's the anti-Roy, and even if he's a healthy scratch most nights, I still want him on my team.

There's really no need to be a douche about it. Pyatt is an ex-Sabre with a reputation for being a "gentle giant" (although some thought that was a by-product of the so-called "Lindy Ruff pussification process"), and I thought others might find it funny to hear that confirmed by someone from another fan base. If you don't that's fine, but being an a$$ is just unnecessary.
-
Haha, it gets better: Me: LOL - so apparently his reputation hadn't changed much since he left Buffalo, lol Him: LOL nope! He has the body of a hockey super-star, but the aggression of a chess player. Watching him play is continually frustrating.
-
LOL -- I asked my brother, who lives in Phoenix and is a Coyotes fan, if he was disappointed about them losing Whitney and Pyatt. This was his response: "Whitney, yes. Pyatt - not so much. He's too much of a pansy."
-
I think I saw somewhere that he's had 23 NHL fights and never lost one! Thanks for the video. Serioously -- Parros is a huge MF'er but Scott towers over even him!
-
Agree 100% -- I was just referring to these:
-
Damn. Wonder if he really did get his $12 million signing bonus?
-
That sounds so much better than oatmeal and yogurt. :(
-
Dammit, figures things start to get interesting when I'm trying to finish up at work and go the heck home. Gah!
-
 Although the slow free agency is a bit boring, my fellow SabreSpacers have really stepped up their game!
-
L-O-freaking-L Thanks for pointing that out... I missed it the first time, too! Hats off to you, Eleven. You guys are on your game today!
-
So glad I revisited this thread today... well done, gentlemen. :clapping:

 Outstanding. I'm not big on the pure enforcer role, but at least if we're gonna have one it'll be someone who can fight for realsies. He was just toying with Westgarth in that video, and from the looks of it, he could've hurt him a lot worse if he'd wanted to.

I don't disagree with you that maybe Ruff isn't using his players where they are best suited; only saying that comment by Boyes made him sound kind of like a baby. As much as the coach is your friend relationship might sound nice, the closer you are to them personally, the harder it is to make difficult decisions that are occasionally necessary, such as benching a player. (See: Derek Roy.)

Gotta agree with Chris's take... This part in particular stuck out to me: "BB: Coming from coaches and having success with coaches that were yellers and screamers and hard on you, that's fine, as long as you get a pat on the back when you do something well. I want to play for a coach that I respect a lot and that'll go a long way in the way that I play. That starts by communicating with off-ice stuff, saying hi, asking how the family is. Those things go a long way. I'm just looking for a coach that will do that to begin with. Once you get the personal side, then it's the hockey stuff, with the coach communicating what he likes or doesn't like about your play." Really, Boyes? You can't play for your coach unless they want to be your best friend and ask about your personal life first? Give me a break.

According to one of the articles on SS today, he's been cleared by his doctors. IMO he should retire... 3 concussions in a year or so at his age (not that 35 is old, but for a hockey player)? Not worth risking another one and jeopardizing his ability to enjoy life later on. Shame to see he and the Sabres part this way, though.
-
 The perfect mix of genuine hockey knowledge and humor, and exhibit A for why it's great to have you back.

D4rksabre might be right... Same thing happened to me with the light coming off and on for a few months before it came on and stayed on. Turned out that I needed to replace the main catalytic converter (and the O2 sensors on either side of it). That's an expensive repair, so I hope it's something else for your sake! And thanks again for all the kind words from everyone. Bun, glad to hear your son is still fighting and doing well.
