I'm not completely sure, but you might be right about a wired modem vs. wireless internet. (I'm sure it's slower than FiOS, but not sure about cable.) CLEAR has two plans in my area for home internet: 1) up to 1.5 MBPS for $34.99/mo 2) up to 3-6 MBPS for $49.99/mo The former is slow by many of your standards, but for general web browsing, email, etc, it's more than sufficient. (I should add that I "upgraded" from a 768 KBPS DSL plan that Verizon was offering, so this is already 2x faster for me.) I've also been pleasantly surprised that I can stream plenty of tv shows, news programs, etc at this speed without any delay or buffering. For sports, however, I suspect the faster plan will be required to avoid hiccups.

Man you guys are bad at guessing... I'd wager weave's real complaint has more to do with a certain NYS law passed recently. For me: my grandfather has been in and out of the hospital (but mostly in) for the last several weeks. They can't seem to figure out if his breathing issues are related to his leukemia or if he has pneumonia or congestive heart failure. We all know he's on borrowed time, but it'd be nice if he can at least be comfortable at home for whatever time is left. Edit: nfreeman, can you get CLEAR in your area? I know it's not everywhere, but so far I've been pretty happy with them since switching this past August.

Welcome back Braedon! Long time, no see.

Wow: http://sabres.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=650351 http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sabres-fans-showing-support-ticket-224736395--nhl.html Looks like the opener Sunday is sold out. A little bit of pent-up demand? Pretty crazy.

Thanks; I'll keep that in mind! :) And yeah on CI... last year was the same issue, and the year before when a few of the games in rounds 1/2 were still on CI, freaking Versus ended up taking almost all of the Sabres games since they were playing Philly. Grrr.

That's good to know. I have the basic plan through CLEAR, which is only up to 1.5 MBPS but my signal is great most of the time (4-5 bars). If that isn't fast enough I can always upgrade to their 3-6 MBPS plan, but since it's an extra $15/mo I want to see if the streams are tolerable with the slower plan first.

I've actually never used it before... I've always had either Comcast or DirecTV so I ordered Center Ice. This past summer I switched to just using Hulu, etc. via the Roku and a digital antenna for local channels. It's great for the limited amount of tv I watch, but I'm not sure my internet will be fast enough to stream GC. There's a 5 day window to cancel, though, so I'm probably going to try it out. And I have to think / hope you're right about them having it ready in time, but we shall see!

"official" links confirming $50 for Gamecenter: http://www.sbnation....ice-2013-season http://ca.sports.yah...00253--nhl.html The second link also confirms the free preview of CI that Chz mentioned (Jan. 19-31).

Good call. Wish I had a hockey buddy nearby to go see the games out... it's no fun watching the Sabres by yourself in enemy territory (I'm sure you're stuck with lots of Flyers fans, too).

I get this, and I don't object at all to NBC having exclusive rights to their games. Where I object is that they haven't provided any avenue to access those games (legally) without cable. I'd happily pay an extra couple bucks a month just for NBCSN through Hulu or Roku, but it's not even an option right now. Even just getting cable isn't an option because NBCSN is always on a higher-tier channel package, and I refuse to pay $70+/month for the one channel I can't get any other way.
-
Yes, as others have said... none of the playoff games are on CI or GC because they are all on "national" channels. This is particularly aggravating because it's primarily NBCSN (formerly Versus) during the first two rounds, which many of us can't get. :censored: Edit: the really effed up part is that GC only blacks-out playoff games in the US and Canada, so our overseas posters are still in luck. Not sure if that applies to CI as well.

Just saw someone on the Roku forum who was told via chat on NHL.com that the updated GameCenter app for 2013 would be available in a few weeks and might not be ready in time for Saturday. I sure hope they're just woefully uninformed, but man that would suck.

Schedule Leaks and Talk of Schedule When Released
biodork replied to CallawaySabres's topic in Archive
Saw on a Roku forum that GameCenter will be $49.95 for the season, but all the NHL official pages still have 2011 info. Hopefully that'll be updated soon... for $50 with the option to cancel within 5 days, I'll definitely give it a try. Edit: oops, just saw someone already posted this info in the Around the NHL thread. Sorry, folks! -
Weird... I got an email around 8am today (and a second one at 11:20am) with the code INSIDER13. Sorry you couldn't get tix, Jack. Reminds me of when the Winter Classic tix (the year they played at the Ralph) sold out because they were supposedly holding blocks of tickets for Pens fans with the code "CROSBY" (as if no one was going to figure that out!). I think they also held tix for Toronto Marlies fans, which I thought was assinine.

Schedule Leaks and Talk of Schedule When Released

Saw in another thread it'll be 4 payments of $14.99 ($60). Not bad! Still not sure if GameCenter will be the same, though. -
lol yeah, I'd imagine several folks will be doing the same thing. Anxious to check out the full schedule and see if I can make it up there this season, but I'll be happy if the free GameCenter rumors turn out to be true.
-
Wow, that's pretty sweet.

No idea, but that would explain a lot.

lol thanks

Damn. I'm even more like Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory than I'd originally feared. :(

Just got an email from my credit union letting me know that they've deposited about $50 into my account as part of a "thank you members" for a strong 2012. Suh-weet!

CBC article to that effect: Brian Burke clashed with new MLSE board members
-
Ha - I think the writer of that article was trying to get it all down too quickly. The photo caption says Kopitar is out with a wrist injury, while the article text says it's a knee injury.

Hang on... does that mean you're the one who shot/edited the video and added the Jeanneret audio clips? If so: :worthy:
