Rare indeed. I read a trick somewhere that if the avocado is green (not brown) under the stem / button it's ripe inside, but I also read that checking at the store is discouraged because supposedly they go bad more quickly once that part has been removed. (Although if it's a good one, you're probably taking it home yourself, and if it's a bad one, it was too late anyhow!) I heard some FN Fantastic news this week: my boss has finally had enough of the incompetent and overly fragrant graduate student (the inspiration for many Complaint Thursday posts) and is giving him three months to wrap up and leave with a Master's degree rather than keeping him on to finish the PhD. It still irritates me that they're talking about giving him a Master's like a gold star to a preschooler who mastered tying his shoelaces because this guy is quite honestly at an undergraduate level, but I'm so excited that he'll be gone in the not-too-distant future.

Late to the thread, but I'll offer my slightly belated condolences as well, Taro. That's tough not knowing where he went, but I don't wish that final trip to the vet on anyone. (I've done it twice myself.) But as others have said, 18+ is amazing and it sounds like he had a great life with you and your family. You'll see each other again at the Rainbow Bridge one day.

New complaint: it's been about 10 months since this happened: After the editorial office had been initially very helpful and was seemingly considering publishing our letter to the editor, we'd heard nothing from them since last July or August. A few weeks ago I emailed them again to follow-up after I couldn't find any correction or letter that had been published, and no response. My former PI (the corresponding author of the original paper) tried contacting them again this week, and we FINALLY heard back today with this: "Thank you for your e-mail. The editor would like to know what exactly would you like to happen at this point, since ABB does not publish Letters to the Editor." Really? You couldn't have asked us this 10 months ago, or maybe offered some alternative for getting the inaccuracies addressed? So freakin annoying.

Yeah. I'm to the point where I'll watch / listen if I'm free, but I don't rush home from work or skip errands to catch the beginning of the game.

My complaint: I don't actually care that the Sabres are playing tonight. I hate feeling that way, but this team isn't even fun to watch when they do win. :(
-
BS call on Ehrhoff, but the Sabres didn't deserve this one after only playing for the first and half of the third. Hopefully Weber and Ennis aren't too banged up from those blocked shots.
-
Pretty sure he did... Ruff used him there a lot as a 4th forward.
-
Lol yeah that looked like a happy accident. And the crowd is back into it!

Proof that there are hockey fans in Phoenix (Glendale) -- this was last Tuesday vs the Kings. Not too shabby for a weeknight, and lots of people had their "beat L.A." towels and shirts from last year's playoffs.

Wtf, is this wrestling now? Ref was right there, too.
-
Lol that's awesome
-
Ouch Cody... that had to sting.

Miller :worthy:

Good stuff, LTS. I'll admit I was almost fully on the side of "what was he THINKING?!" yesterday, but there is a lot of sense to your argument. I still think it was stupid for the coaches to not get Grigs more ice time with offensively-minded players while he was here, but Leino being out really threw a wrench in the lines and Rolston seems to favor his Rochester guys (not that I blame him given the rest of our roster). I like Heimdall's suggestion about spending the summer with Roberts, and he'll almost certainly have a long offseason to train.

Late to the game, but caught the end of the 1st and loving Ott and Gerbe. Good on Weber for getting his first of the year, too... he's gotta be secretly relieved about Sulzer and Brennan. Looking forward to seeing more of Leino in the 2nd period. Happy birthday, Jack!

Congrats to your SiL, and I hope you were still able to celebrate even if it was later than planned. F'N Fantastic: The one-day work week. :D
-
Seconded... Bar Harbor and Acadia are beautiful. Went on a family vacation years ago and have been wanting to get back.

Gerbe back out
-
Man I hope Gerbe is ok. Glad he got back up, but after his back problems last year... scary hit.
-
:P Not even if they got up at 7am on a Sunday for no good reason? Ok; fair enough.

It was fun watching him take out two Flyers with one hit, though. If only he'd gotten them in the reverse order.
