Hell to the yes!

Agreed -- saw the movie over the weekend and really enjoyed it. I hadn't realized it was based on a true story until the ending.
-
That's awful!
-
Have you ever used this stuff? http://www.naturaldogcompany.com/ It's marketed for healing dry noses, but it works well on their foot pads also. Might help them heal a little faster! Ouch! I hope there was whiskey involved.

Oy... you and your wife's families are some tough folks. Hang in there.

I guess that means the FIL has taken a turn for the worse. :( Back in June, I'd gone to the dentist for what I thought was going to be a quick re-cementing of a loose crown and instead left after 3 1/2 hours with a crappy stainless steel temporary and a $320 bill. Went back to my old dentist last week for a cleaning and to have them evaluate the damage, and now it looks like the tooth can't be restored, so I'll have to get it pulled and have a dental implant in its place, which in total is going to set me back somewhere between $1200 and $2000, depending on how the insurance coverage goes. That's bad enough, but I can't even start the process for a few more months because the oral surgeon can't even get me in for a consultation until Dec. 9th! I want this POS out of my mouth already, even if it's going to be hideously expensive. And FedEx's "SmartPost" service has a package going from western PA to central PA via Ohio and WV over the course of three days... WTF?

lol ah yes... good stuff. I love the episode where they retrofitted a car to make it "senior friendly". The modifications were awesome, and the test drive with a bunch of little old ladies was so great.

 FWIW, I watched that episode last night, and I thought it odd how fixated he was on the one year delay for businesses and not individuals, particularly after having made a point about the healthcare.gov website issues ("they've had three years to prepare for this!"). While I agree that single payer would have been preferable to a universal insurance requirement, focusing on the timeline for implementation vs. looking for ways to make the ACA better seems pointless to me.

lol I remember that one... no idea how he got it up there, but it was pretty hilarious.

UK. I don't have Netflix, so I love that it's been added to Hulu's offerings. I'm not even into cars, but those 3 are hilarious to warch.

Top Gear is now available on Hulu Plus! Sweet.

Had fancy cheeses and homemade cherry pie last night. Took a lot of searching to find the Royal Anne cherries my mom always used, but well-worth the effort.

Excellent whiskey drinking last night. First up were Old Fashioneds with Makers Mark, Woodford Reserve, and Bulleit Rye while we waited for a dinner table. All were tasty, but the bf and I both liked the Rye best. The bartender also made them using Amarena cherries (http://www.dibruno.com/amarena-wild-cherries.html) instead of marschino, which was so delicious that we stopped by a store today to pick some up. Then with dinner at Village Whiskey (http://philadelphia.villagewhiskey.com/m/menu-pdfs/PA_VW_Beverage.pdf) the bf had a Commodore and Atomizer, while I sampled the Rickhouse whiskey flight: BLANTON’S SINGLE BARREL FOUR ROSES JOSE GARCES SELECT SINGLE BARREL WOODFORD RESERVE SELECT FOR VILLAGE WHISKEY Four Roses had a floral aroma and good flavor, but also a fair amount of burn, so it was my least favorite. The Blantons had a sweeter aroma and a little burn up front but less on the back end, and also good flavor. My favorite was definitely the Woodford... very nice caramel aroma without being too sweet, and impossibly smooth with little to no burn. I thought saving the best for last was the way to go, but in retrospect I should've gone the other way because my palate was kinda shot after finishing the first two. Great night, though.

Got to play hooky from work yesterday and today with the bf since we took an overnight trip to Philly. Excellent time, including tasty drinks worthy of an update to the whiskey thread. Highly recommend Village Whiskey restaurant and Di Bruno Bros. grocery if anyone finds themself in the Rittenhouse Square area of Center City. Tomorrow night is dinner with friends, which should also be very nice.

I never really thought about it; I just find the cartoon characters amusing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homestar_Runner

lol nice. And for whatever reason, taking a mental tour of fun-sounding science words reminded me of this: http://homestarrunner.com/talky2.html Marshmallow always sounds hilarious.

Ugh I really can't decide what to do about this kitten. He's very sweet and fun to have around, but he's also a lot of work and a big distraction from getting things done (at work and at home). I wasn't really looking to take on this resonsibility right now, but I haven't had any takers on the ad and I'm not going to pawn him off on just anyone after having invested so much time and money in taking care of him. What to do?

I complained a while back about the idiotic changes to our health insurance that required everyone to 1) complete a lengthy online health survey, 2) have a physical examination, and 3) undergo a biometric screening for cholesterol, blood pressure, etc or be penalized an extra $100/month starting in January. Now we're finding out that the Medical Center employees (hospital employees are on a separate plan from those on the University side) can voluntarily choose to complete those same 3 requirements and receive a $300 incentive for doing so. WTF???

lol I'd never contemplated a favorite word out of the bizarre lexicon of scientific terminology, but I'd have to agree with your selections.

Which one? lol

Foot cream kills HIV by tricking cells to commit suicide That headline looks like a joke, but it's a lay summary of this scientific article: Drug-induced reactivation of apoptosis abrogates HIV-1 infection Pretty awesome if they can translate this to human subjects.

This doesn't really fit here, but since it's related to food prep it seemed like the closest thing: http://www.tastingtable.com/entry_detail/national/14983?utm I never would've guessed watching someone chop onions could be so mesmerizing, lol.

Very nice!

At the urging of my boyfriend, I talked to my dad about this weekend and my stepmom and their dog are staying home. I feel a little bad, but they're understanding and I'm so relieved I don't have to worry about the kitten and dog tearing around the house.

Agreed with wjag and 11. While Vanek is clearly our most talented player and I appreciate that he cares enough to get frustrated with himself when he's not producing, I don't think he'd make a good captain. You can't rally the troops when you're too busy making Vanek-face and beating yourself up.
