Not sure its a bad problem to have to choose between these two over other options, though as a Bench coach I prefer Babcock.

I like keeping Strachan as a call up or 6/7 D. the guy is a bigger Mike Weber and at times has shown ability to skate, just very inconsistent. I think he is learning from guys like Risto and Z how to be a big skating D, almost like no one ever told him he could do it and now he is finding out skating with speed is possible. His size and physicality is his strength so I keep him and Weber as enforcers and see who plays better next year.

And that is the million dollar question, can Murray find a good coach that he can trust and share and or accept strong input from?
-
Maybe, but it is going to be a long wait. I am the last of what is considered the Boomers, born in 1964 and turned 50. My Dad is 80, born 1934 pre-boom. The boomers started in 1945 so there are at least 19 years of us that add over 50 million to the normal retirement group in the U.S. The boomers will only exert more political control over the next 20-30 years because remember old people vote and this group has voted even when they are young unlike you younguns.

D I don't think people hate Tim Murray... am I critical... you betcha. I think he is very inexperienced and has made some bone headed PR and potential showing his hand when everyone is playing poker mistakes. That being said, my biggest concern and it is a great unknown because of that inexperience is can he work with others who have strong personalities and share collegiallly some control, while still guiding the Sabres in the best direction. I will never trust a plan or a person completely and reserve the right to forever remain skeptical... that doesn't mean if he comes around and does a good job picking and working with the next coach that I will be disappointed. I hope he succeeds, but think there are some warning signs that he needs to figure out how to overcome.

I might draw your attention to the last time anyone suggested that Murray wasn't ready for the job around here.... bah ha ha ha ha.... Really only 2 weeks ago, knew that in December and could have predicted that 2 years ago when she stepped down from Secretary of State. Worst kept secret ever. May have taken your post the wrong way... ?sarcasm?

For my 10 year old who hates reading anything that isn't on his ipad, I broke open an anthology of short stories of literature this morning. He randomly chose a short poem called "Poetry" by Marianne Moore... It is about reading and her dislike for it... God speaking to him... Awesome!

Former Sabre Steve Montador Dead at 35
North Buffalo replied to LastPommerFan's topic in The Aud Club
Wow, tough. My middle brother died due his addiction at age 35 and other complications. Though different, it is tough to lose someone close to you so young. My heart goes out to Daniel Carcillo as well as Montador's family... -

Wondering if Blues can come back. If they played the way they did last night, yes, but man are they streaky. Sabres team 1 against Sabres team 2...
-
Yeh, and that is true, but Sabres didn't get blown out very often despite that fact and having a crappy team. D and goalies stood up pretty well despite not having guys to help them break out and stretch the opposing team's D. So, saying SOG is the the only indicator leading tho high save percentage is devaluing the eye test. These guys seemed to play more than decent, much better than previous places they were at With the possibility of continued improvment under Irbe's tutelage, I think at least one or two may be starter worthy and Lindback is one imo.

He needs to grow a set of big boy pants and use it as an excuse to promote the Sabres for impending FAs and trades. Change the question when asked stupid ones and pull a Belicheat and answer only questions he wants to and stick to that script no matter what. For being such a control freak, he certainly lacked some..

Depends if that was due to Nolan or Irbe?

And along those lines, the Defense is interesting for next year. Obviously Bogo, and Gorges, Risto, Pysyk. But no one talks about Strachan as part of the long range D. I like his size and nastiness and he seemed to get better as the year went on. I think he replaces Weber on third pair with either McCabe or Zadorov and the other as backup. Any thoughts. Weber would be good down in Rochester as depth or in a trade.

GDT: The Lottery (Eichel is OURS)
North Buffalo replied to Johnny DangerFace's topic in The Aud Club
That would be interesting if Connor joins Eichel in 4 years. But that is long time and anything can happen. Sabres have a lot more decisions between now and then. -
Agreed, he needs to listen to any DC politician. It aggravates me listening to them, but the good ones stick to their agenda and use any question as an excuse to promote that agenda no matter how different the question is from that agenda. Again, Murray has a learning curve as well being a new GM and I hope he gets it, while keeping aggressive behind the scenes. We will see during the draft whether he as learned from this process. The old saying goes, you don't know how someone will respond until they get hit and welcome to the big leagues of media circus.

Agree on Talbot, I still think with Irbe, it could be someone already in the stable. Possibly Lindback as the Sabres groom one of the young guys splitting time with him.
