  1. :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: I do believe he has won more playoff series in the past 10 months than Lindy Ruff has in the past 7 years???? I also feel he will be in the playoffs this year and Ruff will not.
  2. I'll be honest, I love Teddy and the idea of bringing in some guys from that team isn't crazy....but I couldn't believe Boston dressed him in those playoff games last year. He made Tyler Myers at his worst look competent.
  3. Heck Yeah....it's sort of corny to take a 15 hour trip for just the show, but I love that thing and it seems to be a nice place to visit. I've never been to Montreal either. I can't do it this year...but I think I would drive up, and plan it to make pit stops in Montreal and opening weekend in Saratoga. At least have a multi-feature game plan. Maybe we can get funding for a documentary....a bunch of message board acquaintances getting picked up en route in an RV with the landing spot in Nova Scotia. Pegula has to have an extra $50K laying around, right?
  4. Everyone here knows a kid from school that was a very good student, but socially awkward of even inept. The kid wasn't really strange....just kept to himself and didn't do a lot of the out of school stuff. Maybe the kid had a 92 average. What you didn't see is that at home, his mother was yelling at him that he didn't get an A in English for the quarter...or that he spent to much time reading comic books instead of practicing the piano. He couldn't talk about the latest movie because it wasn't PG and his parents wouldn't let him see it. He never really developed friends he could count on because he couldn't relate or share with most of the kids. It wasn't that people didn't like him, it's just that they were more well-wishers and lukewarm because of his personality. Everyone here also knows someone who wasn't the best student...maybe would get 70's or low 80's....but he tried. Maybe he didn't do his homework sometimes because he was playing football outside, or he didn't study for a quiz because he stayed up with his brother, watching a late movie, after they spent the day hunting deer with their dad.....but he always knew when the test was and tried hard. His dad was proud when he would bring home an A in math because he knew how much trouble it gave him at times, but if he brought home a D, his dad was very disappointed because he knew he was capable of more. Bring home a D? No Sabres tickets for him....dad tells the brother to take their cousin. Even though he didn't have the best grades, all the teachers liked him because he was a nice kid and charming with a sense of humor. He probably hung out with a close group of friends, but almost all the kids knew him at least a little, and he would be the first guy to give you a ride home or lend you a few bucks to buy lunch. Ask yourself.....if Lindy Ruff and Ted Nolan were parents.....which one of the two descriptions above would be the better fit to describe their kid? Not in terms of actual parenting, but in terms of developing hockey players and their personalities, character, ability, etc. Vanek, Connolly, Roy, Stafford, Gaustad, Myers Peca, Barnaby, McKee, May, Boughner All those guys were between 18-23 as they came up with their respective coach. Who had more talent? Who had higher points? Who had more natural ability? Who wore captain's letters?.......Who gave more effort. Who played with more common sense? Who would you trust on the ice, or if you needed help in real life? Who actually won a playoff series? I like Lindy off the ice, and 90% of how he acts as a coach. There is a major insecurity however in the transition from person to coach. It can be any number or combination of things, he has valid reasons, but you just have to call it what it is. I know some people don't want to or can't look at people on this level.
  5. Yes...I remember that....crazy stuff. The show must go on......
  6. Lindy Dearest.....
  7. I will give you the Cinnamon for the fall....just like I'd let Mike Grier be captain in February. I love going to Mayer Bros. and getting the combo.. gallon of cider, apple pie, and dozen doughnuts (cinnamon, powdered, plain), for like $15.
  8. Does our Nova Scotian delegation ever go to this? The most recent was on PBS tonight. I am a sucker for the military and patriotic pageantry and old school music. I actually just did some research and the Halifax jazz festival overlaps. I can honestly say a long weekend of Tattoo, Jazz, and seafood in a scenic locale is a perfect trip. This is now on my 5 year bucket list.....
  9. So...you usually want to turn Ghostery on? And I'd let you watch whatever you want....except that Housewives stuff.....
  10. Only the Timbits with the raisin in it. They are addicting. Bavarian Cream is the only choice. You can eat it for a meal...they still hold til the next day....they don't make a mess.....slam dunk.
  11. I never knew what good tequila was until I was lucky enough to have dinner with a most favored person in Texas at a great Mexican place. They brought 15 bottles off the shelf and put them on the table for the 10 of us...on the house to "sample". Don Julio Reposado is the best value to me. I only get a bottle a year because I would go broke otherwise.
  12. I'm not even sure how the playoffs work anymore. Can they face LA in the 1st round or only the conference finals? I'm looking forward to that matchup. I can see LA grinding out 2-1, 3-2 wins, and the added pressure of playing Quick while starting to physically fizzle.... I hope Miller gets us the #1, but I still have reservations he can hold up the entire playoffs to win 16 on any team....especially if they keep using him so much.
  13. Not going to be able to shove the airbag back in that steering wheel......
  14. Sundowner = STD risk Ain't goin down like dat!
  15. Yeah...they fry it. Still with the sushi presentation. I guess a good gateway is the fried stuff like the tempura. Soft shell is a minor delicacy, and not much to it, so it is an easy sell. I'm trying to think of stuff she wouldn't freak with. Tuna tataki is a decent convertor considering it is cooked on the outside. Now I want sushi.....
  16. Oh....this can't be....we need to get you chasing the dragon.... I was oblivious to the glory of sushi until late in life. It's only drawback is it is soooo damn expensive. Wegmans is ok, a solid 6 in terms of selection and taste. It's pretty much all frozen, but a lot of restaurants here have to do that for cost. Considering your exploratory tastes, you need to check out more. It's probably more fun to go with a group and sit at the bar so you can sample. If you like bold and smoked tastes, like I say...the baby octopus, the eel is good, the uni is desert, the salty salmon roe. A good salmon sashimi tastes like a buttery steak. It's tough if you want to get the lady to try. My dad wanted nothing to do with it but I got him to do salmon sushi and soft shell crab. I swear, the first luxury I would indulge in if I ever hit the powerball would be to have a sushi chef. It's healthy and awesome....just too much $.
  17. Oh my.....so you've never had the smoked baby octopus? This is almost like finding out about Santa.....
  18. I find this lack of sushi experience from Weave, shocking. If there is anything deserving of a food and booze thread..... I always finish with 3 pieces of Uni and Ikura....which is sea urchin and salmon eggs. Then grab a cigar if possible.
  19. 4 games in a week for Miller? Uh Oh.....at least he got the Olympics off for the most part, but they better ease up.
  20. For an honest answer....there is nothing even close to chocolate covered Bavarian Cream. It's the Messier, Neely, Pronger, Shannahan, etc. of the doughnut world. Peanut stick is nice, but that's more Hawerchuk, Coffey, Sundin French Crueler is up there, but think Savard, Briere If anyone can challenge Bavarian Cream for captaincy, it might be Powder Sugared Raspberry Jelly..... but you are looking at more of a Potvin, Stevens, Recchi
  21. Holmes dropped the baby...........you had your chance..................
