  1. The trade was Lemieux for Kane and Bogosian. That is what was going through Murray's head I am sure. That's why I like Murray. If you don't "play the game the right way", you are written to zero. Heck, everyone makes fun of Ted Nolan for playing guys like Flynn and Mitchell in key situations.......anyone watching the Montreal series or scoresheets? The fact that people were so in the dark about Bogosian here in Buffalo shocked me. There was almost zero mention of him the day of the trade from any media and most fans. The reason he was a disappointment in Winny is because they already had a guy like him in Byff and expected 50 points a year. I was more excited about him than Kane, and I'm happy about Kane. If I was a kid again, I'd be rockin a Bogosian jersey from day 1. I just hope these 2 don't get turned off by another year of crap hockey.
  2. The arena can be plenty loud. Just look at the Leafs and Canadians games here. It's just no fun. It's like playing craps at a table by yourself. Thanks for the lovin.
  3. There is a good documentary on HBO about guys adjusting to life after sports. They had a a bunch of psych and social professionals comment and said retiring for someone in general is like grieving a death, but even moreso for someone young who all they knew and were identified with is their athletics. It was solid. I think the issue with Monty isn't concussions. If you hit a rotten apple with a hammer it will ooze, but preventing that incident doesn't stop the apple from being rotten and not edible. A lot of it is about chemicals in the brain and personality types. Sounds like he was a great guy and helpful in many areas of life. He was just a mind racer and used things to chill him out or enhance the zoom.
  4. He didn't say a word.......the weasels start popping out of their holes soon though, so I figured I'd hide the hens......
  5. I was able to delete my own thread willingly before someone complained.
  6. I have no idea because I haven't seen enough of his teams that mattered. I was just surprised how quiet it was that it was said. Even on Twitter only a few people made mention. I guess it doesn't mean he will be, but it seemed like it was a close call for the Sens job and Murray knows his worth.
  7. I am shocked nobody has said this. I guess everyone was watching the NBC feed during the lottery, but on HNIC, Friedman and company said that Peter Deboer was the leading candidate for the Sabres. He almost got hired in Ottawa by the Murrays and is a great fit. I looked at the CBC site and can't find it, but it was on at 8PM saturday.
  8. Yes it was....and when Dumont scored in '06....and Shields went after Garth in Ted's 2nd playoff series...... This thread does my heart good. The end started in the middle of '06-'07......there was hope last year for a bit, but the last 2 months of the regular season this year was the death rattle.
  9. At least for me, QB is by far the hardest to identify coming out of college. I go back to JP Losman and Trent Edwards. I was convinced Edwards would be as good as Fergy by the end of it. JP was a tool, nice kid, but people fell in love with his skill. He could move, and he had a stronger arm than Kelly. I saw him throw 50 yard perfect spirals into a 30MPH wind at The Ralph on a December afternoon. No wonder they bit.
  10. It would be like me hiring you as a sarcasam coach....... I can see a skating coach.....bring him, (I'm sorry, her), in for a 45 minute clinic....and that pretty much should do it.
  11. My guess is that 19 of the 20 women would have banged Bill Cosby without being rufied. The Patriots probably would have won 34-10 without cheating....but sometimes you have to pay the piper. At least you should have to.....but this is the real world, so the NFL will probably put Kraft on the Rules Committee, sort of like how Uncle Cliff is now 1 of 6 Trustees of Penn State appointed by the Governor.....
  12. Go drive around the block a few times so you have ammunition for 20 complaints in tomorrow's thread...... If you research at your job as well as you do hockey, we're all going to die of the sugar.......
  13. I'm not knocking the team. I'm saying, you had "The Next Gretzky", who turned out to be pretty slick and a HoF'r in his prime, playing #2 center. You had a #1 center who was probably the top player in the game at the time, or darn close. A big forward who scored 30 in his sleep. A dynamic winger who could skate and score at will. A goalie stable that has more trophies and jewelry than Oscar night......and they still never came close to winning a Cup. I am saying, look at the "top talent" on the Sabres, see how far away they are, and even adding McDavid, you are lightyears away. There is no magic switch. Like Hawerchuk said.....even the role players on those teams were good. You had a stable of 3rd/4th line forwards who could kill every penalty, and still manage to pot 12-25 goals each. I loved that era. I hate this era, and the dysfunctional thinking process that has glorified cementing a losing culture for a 20% chance at "The Next Hawerchuk"........
  14. I agree that he probably isn't doing cartwheels. I just HATE the fact so many people are more worried about hoping someone else fails instead of making themselves better. I'm 10x more concerned that David Lee and a snitch of an OL coach are here in Buffalo than I am with where Doug Marrone eventually retires with 8 figures in his bank account.
  15. Since Pegula owns a record label, we need to have Zadorov cover Schoenny's album and put it out. I'm 83% joking, but in this city, you could probably make $100K for charity if he can even sort of carry a tune....with that accent? Gold!!!
  16. You are correct. I thought he had a say in their drafting and such.....maybe I'm just getting old...... We should start a "who wore it better?" thread with helmets. I was always partial to Charlie Huddy and his lid crafted out of a cardboard box of Molson Golden.
  17. No....not at all......but he had it as a calculated landing spot. You War Game.....if I fire a shot....what are the likely outcomes? His worst outcome was to get a year advance on salary, escape a structure he despised, and move to a warm climate in his 50's with 8 figures in his bank account, working with his best friend, or a unit he could coach in his sleep. Meanwhile, some of us have to wake up at 5am to do a Mama Pecararo radio shoot for $75 next Saturday........
  18. Making the playoffs and lucking out as a 40-1 shot is one thing.... Lindy and your boy Seguin are 100-1. There's a reason why Boston let him roll. I'm not saying this can't be a really good team in 3-4 years......I'm saying Tim Murray needs to be one of the best GM's in the league for that to happen. So far, he's been Grumpy Cat Darcy....... I do have faith in him being good however. It's just such a shame and a waste watching poor young souls give themselves to the devil.
  19. He made his decision based on $4 million in his pocket from an owner who wouldn't commit to him long term. He also had Polian in his corner, (psssst.....who is on the Jacksonville payroll?), and his BFF O'Brien in Houston with backup gigs for him. I think Marrone is an average coach. I also think he was stressed out as a head coach and didn't enjoy the structure of having to deal with Whaley and Pegula. He also had a major health scare that might lead someone to not worry about the title on their business card so much as the big picture. I just get sick of people, especially pipsqueaks making $40k in the 93rd biggest media market in the country, taking pleasure in trying to embarass a guy who made the right decision for himself. The only thing I fault him for is hanging the team out to dry when he probably knew full well he was going to leave. He's an average coach. He also made more money this year so far than all of us on this board combined.....
  20. Butt-ending....then 5 minutes in the box......
  21. So it goes from 100 vs 30 to 94 vs 30? I accounted for Andreychuk getting traded......and Muckler was GM in Edmonton, no? He was on the player selection crew, that's for sure.
  22. Actually, Marrone is the highest paid coach for the 2015 season.....up until about November. He's sitting on 4 BILLS that weren't going to be coughed up until the fall. He's sipping Rum Runners in the Keys the next 8 weekends, fishing for grouper, and worrying about enough sunscreen so that he doesn't have a relapse of cancer from this year that he wanted kept private, but an IT geek F'd it up for him. Oh yeah.....500K less in taxes on that check since he is a FL resident now. Meanwhile, poor Rex is going to have to purchase a taser so he can jam himself in the ass and fake-smile the 37 times a week Pegula wants to talk to him about how things are coming along. I only wish I could hit rock bottom like Marrone......
  23. LaFontaine in his prime Hawerchuck in his prime Mogilny entering his prime Andreychuk in his prime 2 HOF goalies Stanley Cup winning GM and coach McDavid at 18 Moulson in his prime Girgensons entering his prime Ennis in his prime Enroth and Neuvirth Tim Murray Good luck Tankers......
  24. I was about to bring up a few years later, yesterday. For all the McEichel BS talk.......the Sabres had a guy on their team with plenty left in the tank, who was considered the "Next Gretzky".....Dale Hawerchuk. On that same team, along with a 28 year old Hawerchuk, they had a 26 year old Pat LaFontaine, a 22 year old Alex Mogilny, and a 28 year old Dave Andreychuk. Hasek joined them all for a short stint and Anderychuk got moved for Fuhr. THEY NEVER MADE IT OUT OF THE 2ND ROUND OF THE PLAYOFFS............ Good luck Tankers.
