  1. Again....the majority of NHL players come through major Junior Hockey. The majority of players in major Junior Hockey leave their families between 15-18 years old to live with complete strangers, hundreds or thousands of miles away, in order to chase a dream of having a 10% chance to make millions of dollars and fame playing a game that is their national pastime. You were a good musician when you were 15 I assume. Why didn't your parents ship you off to California for a 10% chance at being in an industry to have the chance to be the next Ringo Starr or Tico Torres? Feel free to come up with ideas to make it safer for players. Maybe you answered the question.....get rid of helmets, excessive pads, and maybe the game goes to an offensive, mutual respect like it used to be.
  2. I actually think Bylsma is better for this crew. He is a players' coach with some grit. He can coddle and push at the same time while having a "sounder system" than Nolan. He's my #1. I love Torts, and him and Murray probably hit it off.....but these guys aren't ready for him. If he couldn't get over the hump with the Rangers roster he had, as well as he did, his style will lose steam in the 3 years it takes to get this team to a realistic contending point. Torts in Boston would be awesome. I'd be all-in.
  3. Which is all the more reason to laugh. They CHOOSE to enter a profession that is 10x as wussified as it was 40 years ago....5x as 20 years ago..... Bottom line, most of these guys don't even graduate high school, leave their families to live with strangers at 16 years old in order to pursue a chance at a career in non-essential entertainment, and many have very few acquired skills after the game. How am I supposed to cry? Montador was a cool dude. He was probably a very bright guy, but his history shows that concussions weren't the issue. His personality was one that was probably a chemical imbalance. Look at interviews with guys like Tony Twist or the history of guys like Probert. You have to be a little off to play the game a certain way. I'm ALL for supporting the transition back to civilian life for pro athletes...especially ones with mediocre tenure or salary. I'd bet a large sum of money that pro athletes are having a much bigger negative impact on their kidneys, livers, and hearts from all the suppliments they are encouraged to take in order to get bigger and faster than the handfull who get their bell rung. Not illegal stuff....just high protien, over oxygenation, yadda yadda.
  4. Bakers get paid an average of 30K a year and usually have no feeling in their fingertips. Police get paid an average of 60K a year and die 10+ years earlier than the average person while risking their life and helping people everyday. Military get paid an average of 40K a year, and I'm pretty sure we've lost a few more million of those poor souls doing their job than athletes. A hockey player gets paid an average of 3.5 million to take 17 minutes of ice, 82 times a year......or what equates to 3 days of working for the average person. If I want to see a tear jerker, I'll go to the Met to watch Pagliacci........
  5. It was Ebenezer Ale House. You posted the pic with the hockey stick and this guy was a dead ringer except with hair grown out more. They were watching hockey with a glass of bourbon and a martini. I must have just been overexcited to be freed from Sabrespace jail. I thought of sending over a round and tell them it was from Ghost. That could have been an all-around disaster.......
  6. This teaches me a lesson. If I can ask a stranger, "Weave?", which probably sounds like weed.......I better not run into someone I think is Chz and ask her name......
  7. If it was him, he probably thought I was asking for weed. I know he has gone there and there were big boy drinks involved, but he had people with him so I didn't want to bother until he left. I don't think it was him since Weave was posting here not long before I saw the person. That poor guy must be more confused than I am.
  8. I may or may not have attempted to introduce myself to someone on the board whose name sounds like an illegal plant that is smoked, at a local watering hole tonight. After saying the name a few times to a response of confusion/concern, I abandoned the effort.
  9. Sort of like Stafford's production the last 2 months of contract years, and Myers shrink bills in the offseason..... :)
  10. At least your friends won't show up and root for 12's, telling you how smart it is because then you can go into bankruptcy and erase all your debts........
  11. This may be one of the best questions I have ever seen here. It's a humble wookie..... good job.
  12. Gorges could barely walk and played a month for the Sabres. He was insulted when he would get questioned if he was injured. Give me a guy who says, "It's the playoffs....you could ductape my limbs to the goalposts and I'm ready to go." Hey....not our problem anymore.
  13. There's an 80 year old or so guy that kicks ass on the accordian. The best I ever saw was a kid...maybe 10 or 11 tops....and he was playing jazz standards and improvising on the piano. I ended up getting an iced cap and sat around on the couch for a half an hour. Sometimes though you get people that should not be there. I'm serious....a lot of patients are nauseous and in pain to begin with, and then you get an out of tune singer, or a young group that can't go mezzo....it carries up through all the floors. There's nothing like waiting for 4 hours with tubes in your neck and arm to see if you get another Christmas, and hearing Stashu's rendition of Besame Mucho on the ukulele.......
  14. That's what has always made me look down on Miller. He is in the perfect spot with no pressure. The other guy has them in a 3-1 hole and he came into the game and pitched a 30 minute shutout. Instead of trying to boost the guys for a 20% chance of winning the series, he's making excuses ahead of time for when they lose. I actually took Vancouver to make the Cup because if Miller ever is going to make it there, it WOULD be off an injury where he was well rested. He's just such a mental case that he can't even STFU for one day to give his guys some confidence.
  15. Never confuse money with success. You and d4rk are 2 of the neatest people I know, and I have never met you. You can't put a price on being stand-up and experiencing life.....but eventually "The American Dream" will be on the clearance shelf.
  16. Bogosian was diving in his own zone to clear a puck at the end of that Pens game. I think he may be the eventual captain if the team as a whole progresses the next few years. We haven't seen a guy with his size, smoothness, talent, and grit on the backend in forever. He has Zhitnik's skillset and plug body, with Schoenfeld's edge and positioning. Myers was Petr Svboda meets Mike Wilson. I wish Roby was still on the broadcast team, because he would be circling him on the telestrator almost every game then have to call his doctor because it was more than 4 hours......
  17. Weren't there about 10 pages of posts debating what Murray meant with "disappointed with the fans", "I feel like I got cut from the National team", "Of course you're disappointed to come in 2nd"....yadda yadda. I'm just having fun with it since he said it.
  18. I was looking for shady activity. The worst thing I saw was the overuse of hairspray on a 50's part that the guy drawing the numbers had. At least Ted Black uses gel.....
  19. I have a standing offer. $100 to the person that can tell me the name, what happened, and where she is now. The biggest red flag is that when the daughter got married, she wasn't mentioned. Unicorns, Rainbows, and Jew Jews. I figured since everyone is fighting about what Murray means when he says it, a couple of cheerful Hasidic fellas fits the upbeat nature over some stale grandma candy.
  20. The song really fits though. I really think Eminem is talented. I got into a spirited debate with a black friend in the entertainment industry about him. He says he's popular because he's white. I said if he was black he'd have 3x the cash because he is so talented.
  21. This would be so much better if Chz said it.....
  22. Bogosian has a heavy shot, and it's accurate. Get a PP of Eichel, Kane and Moulson up front and Bogosian is going to put up an extra 10 points in that alone. Murray is identifying guys who play a heavy game, and have confidence and/or talent. Bogosian is a very sharp guy and is a rock on the ice and funny off. Kane gets a little glitzy off the ice but he is all you want on it. These guys 5 years from now are the types who will have won you a cup. Zadorov is the same type of personality.....he just needs to wake up a bit. The biggest improvement I have seen this year is in Ennis and Foligno. Ted Nolan for all the crap he takes....these two guys really blossomed in confidence and Foligno's effort became more consistant the end of the year. Larsson has a good attitude and will be a nice 4th liner. Deslauries is a gem of a 4th liner and PK. Girgensons is now considered untouchable.....who was his coach the past 2 years on all teams? Ristolainen was healthy scratched and people complained. He woke up the last 20 games and played a more responsible game in his own end while still pushing it on O. You have almost all the weak minds off of this team. I'm glad they hung onto Ennis because I didn't think he would make it, but his effort and production was a nice surprise.
  23. There were some good entries in that thread. LGR made me laugh with Slim Shady.....that not only said it perfectly, but had Fat Elvis in it as well. I guess Fat Elvis is like Gretzky on the Rangers. That's what's awesome about the internet. You can try to scrub things.....like resumes....marriages....and sports threads......but someone is always going to know the truth!
  24. I have no idea what people are questioning in that lottery. The draw was fine. The only way to rig it is to make the balls you don't want drawn, slightly bigger because the force of the air underneath is so strong that the suction won't plug the tube with the big ball because it will get smacked out of the way and the smaller ones get to go. They should let the teams inspect the balls if people are really scared of a rig. All post positions and claims in horseracing are decided by a lottery style draw with Dungens and Dragons type dice thrown in a yahtzee flask with a neck. It would probably save the NHL 10K a year.
