Maybe one of our fancystat guys could come up with a value for every NHL city. I would like to see Season Ticket Price / Median Income for metro area as a percentage....... then divide by points in the standings. Just how much on a relative basis is each fan paying for performance on the ice? I know what my eyes and gut says........what do the analytics say???? I wonder if the Sabres would send out that pamphlet? Awesome.....I didn't make it all the way down...... Yes...Buffalo is a mature and educated hockey market. We even line up at Noco at 5AM for a tin coin of Adam Mair.....

I'm 100% with Beyer. Sad, but true. I have a couple on the turf tomorrow. Today's card is blah.....

Sorry...talking about the Mississippi fast food chain......

I'm not saying it's wrong. In football, with this crew, it is boom or bust. In 3 years people will be building a Rex statue or burning his truck.

I'm saying when you send your "braintrust" across the country, 2 days before the draft in order to provide a smokescreen for your 50th pick, when your 2nd round pick last year took about 6 snaps......you are a bunch of morons. I don't think that is the case. They either really like Petty, or they are morons.

Whaley wouldn't be here....I like his passion, but he is on year 19 of the 20 year Ginzu Warranty..... Someone said that Pegula didn't send the Sabres into the shitter. The "brilliant rebuilding plan" was forced on Pegula after his mistakes when he took over the team. There was no other option. All i did was point out the exact same gameplan is being used by Pegula for year 1 of the Bills. The Bills have a better shot at it, but I also should be on this team at O-Line over Whaley's 2nd and 5th round picks last year. I agree with all of it. Although what would this board have said if Pegula hired Barry Melrose and brought in Matt Cooke and Sean Avery?

It cost $50K to fly all those aholes down there......if you are wasting time trying to leverage the 50th pick a few days before the draft.....you don't deserve to run a Checker's let alone a billion dollar football team......

Really? Maybe for New York, or Toronto, or Chicago......cities that get by just fine....but then again, they probably also have the most sharp media who doesn't let stuff get by. Funny ain't it? So.....let's just say......what would the overall impact be on the city of Buffalo and area if Terry Pegula was "entertaining" the Mrs. on their anniversary, and in the throes of passion, Terry has "The Widowmaker", and proceeds to collapse on a 95lb Kim, trapping her and also causing her demise? Does it turn into a Disney Film with a trio of teenage kids running 2 sports teams and 1/4 of downtown? Or do you see the Bills and Sabres auctioned off, and Harborcenter and 1/4 of downtown at risk given the development from the developers assuming a stadium going forward? Widowmaker....Plane.....Rigas.......we just don't know. Do you truly think sports are entertainment for this region? Have you seen these deals being signed by the Bills? They have a 3 year window.

At least you are posting to your own board more than once every 6 months.....I'll give you that..... So...are we to believe Terry Pegula at his word? If so, he was "shocked" that Marrone left and had planned on him being here. So what did the Sabres do Pegula's first offseason? They had the largest cash outlay of any team in the nhl. They signed Lieno and Ehrhoff to front loaded deals. They traded for Regehr and Hodgson....a little more than a year later extending Hodgson to $25 million They extended Myers and gave him $12 million cash upfront What was the result? Zero playoff games in 4 years, an admitted failure and plan to sell off all assets, (did you get the pamphlet?), Lieno and Ehrhoff getting bought out, Myers dumped, Regehr dumped and retired, and Hodgson as a handful more goals than biodork the past 2 years. All to the drumbeat of a GM who, "what has he done wrong?"..."I can work with him"....... Let's look at year 1 as owner of the Buffalo Bills The largest upfront cash outlay of any team in the NFL They sign Clay and Harvin to front loaded deals They trade for Cassel and McCoy....and extend them both with cash up front They keep Hughes for another giant upfront bonus All to the drumbeat of a GM who told fans there will be no activity in free agency next year because they need to extend his own draft picks. What will happen going forward?????? I don't know.....but how can you say he hasn't done the exact same thing he did with the Sabres? And how can you not feel concerned that if the Bills go 8-8 and 9-7 the next 2 seasons...that all that money doesn't handcuff them to mediocrity going forward?

Aaaaaand.....yet there is no reason for a law abiding citizen to be able to own a gun........ I think Whitey and Blackie should get together and march 45 miles away. That's where the real issue is...and they're bending them both over a barrel........

He learned his lesson, but this was HIS 5TH YEAR as owner. If you want to call it his 4th, fine, but then he gets no credit for the playoffs in 2011. He is doing the EXACT same gameplan with the Bills that he started with the Sabres, minus a new coach....and who knows if the coach would have been the same if he didn't opt out. They are extending every possible contract and throwing giant upfront money at guys. McCoy was a trade, and Clay and Harvin are by consensus overpaid but there were limited options on the market. (Sounding familiar?) Whaley has already told fans to take a vacation next free agency because they will be spending any available money on extending HIS draft picks to giant cash outlays. (Sounding Familiar?) They have a 2-3 year window to actually get the job done, because there is going to be a lot of dead and underperforming money on the books in a few years. God forbid the Bills miss the playoffs this year....it can be the exact same path as the Sabres. At least they have a defense worth investing in, but the QB and O-line is still subpar. They have admitted they are trying the Dilfer/Sanchez plan to grit it out into January. That's a tad scary. As far as the interview goes, the guy is from Tonawanda and a huge Bills fan. Let's see if I can nail it... 1) Open with shot of Sidney the dog running in a circle and up to Terry who is walking with Kim and maybe one of the kids. 2) "This looks like any other stroll in the park for a normal American family, not a multi-billionaire power couple....yadayada... 3) "This once bustling blue collar city was a staple in manufacturing...and along with their blue collar image, the love of their sports teams goes hand in hand." (to the backdrop of stock photos of Bethlehem Steel and Ford Stamping, maybe Sal hauling a barge on the canal, and then the photo of Jim Kelly coming out of the tunnel with his helmet on and 1 finger in the air). "But like many other rust belt cities, things started to decline and stagnate over the years." "Meet Terry and Kim Pegula. Single-handedly responsible for a renesiance of the city's sports teams and downtown waterfront. (backdrop of 10% audio of Terry trying to tell a joke, interviewer faking a smile, and Kim flashing those pearly whites) ......maybe to be continued, but I think we get the picture.

All in all, I agree. Pegula is very protective of limiting his exposure to questions and criticism. But the reporting/investigative chops on the News is almost zero. Graham has the ability, but is busy polishing his Traverse in a parking lot full of Cruzes. The only reason I really looked into the Penn State stuff to the extent that I did is because the Sabres refused to make anyone available for comment. The News huffed and puffed, but if they were actually worried about making a difference from their position, they would put in the investigative work instead of playing grumpy paddycake on Twitter with 14 year olds. There is enough information out there that a Pulitzer would be won if someone had the nads to follow through on all the info. This is the problem with Pegulaville. A one paper and one station town. He controls $2 billion worth of sports teams, the radio station, and the guys at the News have limited access. Having just fired Nolan and being at the podium, and the lottery, I'm actually much more interested in grilling them for a plan a week into free agency. You just don't know what the team will look like until then and while the playoff teams go at it the next few months....we just have to wait.

Murray is TOO honest. Pegula has changed the leadership group and is willing to spend money. His mistakes may have set the team back 3 or 4 years, but there is no longer a weasel in the actual hockey decision department. This is the first year in the past 8 that there is no need to have one. They should bury this toxic cat turd as deep in the sandbox as possible and hope things work out in July.

Eichel is the exact type of player this team has needed for a decade. Not because of his consensus rating, but because of the things you mentioned. He's probably a 400 goal scorer. I'm just being realistic. Eichel has a lot of reasons he may take another year for himself. He probably leaves. Also, just because a faction of the community bought into the Sabres pretty color pamphlet and the folks on Pegula Radio the past 2 years, doesn't change the reality of what will happen on and off the ice compared to 29 other teams. In 4-5 years, Murray's philosophy has them headed to be a good team with a realistic chance to do something.

That was 3 months in the making. I have no problems on a message board, ripping guys for lack of results. That was some sick stuff at the arena however.
