I swear I heard him call in one Saturday morning......the guy was classic, with a good gravel of a radio voice, and just ripped management to shreds. I really don't know how much money is to be made in a radio business model, but I would think you could do well by joining forces with a place like this to direct people to a better written content with access to dozens of knowlegable sports fans, then instead of paying so much for on-air "talent" and appearance fees to guests, much like the reality show programing on TV, you pluck some able and willing bodies to call in or sit in. I bet not that many here call in for the simple reason I stated of no mutual control or respect. Most would be willing to spot for free, and what's the worst they have to do, throw an Outlet Liquor gift certificate at someone? You could probably save $50K a year, get a 5-10% bump in listeners, and go joint on the written content and get even more from online advertising. Plus Chz could draft only falic objects in the food draft.

I jumped on the Ott bandwagon because there were actually reports out of Dallas he is available after the Riberio trade. Last year I was begging for Hanzal and Doan out of Phoenix given the ownership situation and Doan's pending FA. The theme has been the same from me year after year.....at least it seems that Mr. Pegula may have given a bit of a behind the scenes edict to the staff that "just maybe" we need to get a little bigger and tougher up front and down the middle. This is the first time in years, because of the draft, I actually don't feel like I am wasting my time by looking at these types of players to acquire. You are right though about material being "lifted" from here as you have in the past. Most of the time I think you should take it as a compliment. I think Hamilton does the best job of it in the sense he has his own opinion and ideas, and sometimes looks deeper into some of the things stated here and will use it in a well presented case or statement. I respect him enough that I look at it like a good musician riffing off of someone else. Schopp will use ideas here from time to time and sometimes have a whole show about it. It doesn't mean he didn't have the exact same idea...they just use convo here as a barometer for what might make a good discussion. I don't listen to the morning guys though as i can't stand White's character....although he does a nice job when I hear him interview people and has some good thought processes. All the guys in the News dabble here as well I'm sure, In all honesty, instead of being stealth about things, they would probably do better in ratings if they actually gave out props for certain points or ideas and incorporate shoutouts. Could you imagine how many people would tune in if Schopp interviewed DeLuca? I won't call radio but once in a blue moon, because they control the grounds and conversation. At least here you control your own content and someone can't screen you or cut you off....except for the rare Chz multiple bee stings to her thumbs. It's not like this place is competition for GR....it's more of a synergy. Most of their people do much better on air than in written form.

They were in a quasi-playoff push....now he is 1 year left on contract. If Gaustad was worth a #1 for 2 months...Ott at $2 mil cap hit for 2 years is worth more than that. Roy might get you TO the playoffs....guys like Ott get you THROUGH the playoffs....

I slipped. I hope they do it though. Doan and Ott would make a HUGE difference in this team. I just don't know how you can walk into the locker room with Pominville and Stafford wearing letters with a straight face when you have Doan-Regehr-Ott sitting there. I don't think Regehr likes Bouwmeester much. Darcy and Feaster are blood brothers now though. That is least likely to happen.....I think he is still darn good in the right place. Roy for Ott.....I think people are misguided. Roy played like crap....Nashville gave a 1st to rent Gaustad for 2 months.....Ott is being mentioned because it is assumed Dallas is looking for a skill guy now, otherwise I wouldn't even think he is available. Ott is the type of guy you can win in the playoffs with. He's a lot better than Gaustad.....he averages 5 more goals a year and hits everything in sight without backing down. Even Darcy has capitulated that a small/skill roster can't get the job done. Devine said it himself that he doesn't see adding any small forwards for the forseeable future and that's why their draft concentrated on large guys who are willing to bang. If you want to build a team that can compete for a cup....once again the names are floating out there to get it done. Roy and Tropp for Ott......probably gets it done Stafford/Adam/Brennan/2nd for Ryan.....possibly gets it done Ennis/Sekera/mid prospect for Bouwmeester.....probably gets it done $16 million for 4 years for Doan $6/$4/$4/$2......probably gets it done $2 and change for Moen $1 and change for Pyatt and Moss You are dumping $15 mil....trading for $14......and can cover the FA with your cap space You go into the season: Vanek-Hodgson-Ryan Foligno-Ott-Doan Moen-Grigorenko-Pominville Lieno-Moss-Pyatt Myers-Regehr Bouwmeester-Ehrhoff McNabb-Leopold (Gerbe/Weber/Sulzer) Miller Enroth You're at the cap.....have a goalie tandem that can go 60-22......2 D-pairs that can get 22 minutes a night and is balanced with 3 guys that can kill you if they want.....and you roll 4 lines that have 2 big bodies at least on each with every single player in the front 12 being able to net 15 goals....and 9 of the 12 like to hit with half of them capable pugilists. You give up some of the future in Sekera/Brennan/Tropp/Ennis.....but it is for a chance to win the whole thing TODAY...and over the next few years while still having guys like Armia/Pcsyk/Girgensons in the pipeline. I think this is a realistic plan that wouldn't take a miracle to pull off. I see Ott averaging 5 more goals a year than Gaustad and 7 points the past 5 years and laying out 2x as many hits while dictating in physical confrontations. It's like saying Eyore and Secretariat are the same because they are both equines.

In all honesty.....Sabres best hope is a short season. Bills should be competitive into December as well so no big loss. Start in January for 50 games....works for me.
