off topic Penn State debacle
Ghost of Dwight Drane replied to Ghost of Dwight Drane's topic in Archive
Better than this? Why? What is wrong with pointing out facts and giving my opinion that I would figure more likely than not, more than 4 people knew about what was happening? Is it uncomfortable to talk about such a dastardly situation given what happened? Damn right. But isn't that the reason this thing went on for decades and got so big? Because people at first ignored even lloking into the possibility that things were happening? Saying there is a good chance somebody knew what the situation was is a lot different than saying they were a firsthand party in what occured. I think the moral line of questioning be saved for someone other than myself. I would hope that people are asking questions about what dozens of others knew. I'm only talking about this because of the Sabres relation. If I was at Penn St.....I think I would puke and probably would be ashamed at the whole thing. It's easy for me to say because I'm not. The only reason I chimed in was because of a belittling comment a few days ago. It is that type of belittlement I am sure that the actual victims felt at some point, if not still.....because so many people sat idle and let someone else handle it. I guess it's easier to say that Zdeno Chara wanted to drive Pacheoretty's head into an iron bar on purpose...basically making him guilty of attempted manslaughter....which a dozen or so here did. It's a discussion about a serious subject, and if confronted about it.....I will present facts and support them if people want to accuse ME of some sort of wrongdoing. It would be easy to avoid any line of questioning and delete any reference to it in my posts.......like some institutions would choose to do which also leads to help me form my opinion......but I choose to answer. -

OK...well said on the last part. I have no idea who knew what and when for sure. If I knew....I wouldn't be saying it here....I'd be telling someone that can do something about it. This is a speculative message board for Sabres related issues....which by relation, this is. Question though....if someone calls OJ Simpson a murderer, is that libel? Here are some more FACTS Tom Corbett gave Second Mile a multi-million dollar grant AFTER the investigation.....which is why the donations are relevant. I guess getting the Governorship is a better gig than going MIA with all your belongings ending up in the river like the other DA on the case. When the Second Mile was to be investigated in the aftermath......many years of relevant financial information were thrown away and destroyed. Before any of this came public, Pegula was making calls to get Tom Bradley a coaching job at other colleges, even though as we saw, he was 1st in line for the Penn St head coaching job with an octogenarian Peterno with lung cancer in tow. Tom Bradley also happened to be Sandusky's workout partner and saw him in the Penn St gym close to every morning even after Sandusky "retired" Tom Bradley lived with McQueary around the time of the shower incident Tom Bradley was just named IN COURT by one of the victims as seeing him in the shower with Sandusky and not wanting to leave the two alone Tom Bradley also happens to be friends with Benson and accompanied him to Haiti on a relief mission where they brought orphaned children back to be adopted. Since you have gotten a little stirred up on this and start throwing around words like libel and slander......I will be sure to document all of these tonight when I have an hour or so available. I figured we would keep these at coffehouse chat levels. He did it BEFORE the report came out, but the reference was very recent....within a month. He was defending Ruff's detractors saying "Yeah....people wanted us to fire Joe Paterno too and then he went on and won a National Championship." -

It's all about the Google search hits! Lindy would probably kill someone if he saw that going down. I will knock his coaching tactics, but he has to be cringing right now even being 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon with this stuff. -

Those ARE all facts. I said I bet he knows what the deal was. I also said he was too far removed to do anything of consequence about it. It didn't stop him from praising Paterno the other day on GR in his defense of Lindy Ruff. -

You are projecting all over the place. I wrote what I wrote. You are having reading comprehension problems. I put down facts and said I would bet he knew about it. I bet dozens had a damn good clue what was happening. a 267 page INTERNAL report was just released. If you followed this from the begining, you'd understand the magnitude of what went down. It isn't about a football team...... -
medium, sicilian, hot cajun.........for all the buildup, I was expecting something great. The cajun was the best of the 3, but I just don't get the hub-bub on this one. If I was able to try their roast beef at 9:15 maybe I would be more inclined to return. Nice enough place and relaxed. I'd rather have Big Tree type wings. These were more along Duffs style sauciness. I rather have a greasy crisp and lather than too much sloppy fluid. Maybe that's where I differ.

That's the problem.....it's just not the athletic program. The same names crop up in a circle. There are a few dozen people that should be gone through with a fine toothed comb. Money talks though. It looked like when the story first broke we were going to find out......but I am not so sure now. For the kids sake hopefully what we know is what happened, but this thing is just so intertwined, nothing would shock me. I love how some are trying to compare this to a couple kids getting a tattoo and selling some footballs on Ebay! -

The Sabres do plenty for charity.......which is why I am assuming they can't be so cheesey as to rig this for a profit. I can't find any mention of charity though. The Bills are always good too. Ralph has found ways to slip some big checks to the community at times without any fanfare. The players on BOTH teams are amazing off the ice. As much as I can complain about on-ice persona, there are tons of good hearted Sabres off the ice. I think the small town feel Buffalo has really helps that type of relationship. -

I don't care if they build a statue and spruce up the walkway a little.....but it's pretty cheesey IF it's made out as some Pegula tribute when they are actually doing it as a for-profit venture by luring fans into buying 37 cent nameplates at $100 a pop to slap on an already existing brick and trying to pimp out $2500 packages to get your name on the statue and some T-shirts. I emailed Ted Black and am awaiting a reply. If the money all goes to charity, I could easily see buying a nameplate. If not, no way in Hockey Heaven. I will wait though for a response before I assume it is a pocket lining venture. This is what the Bills did with every penny going to the youth foundation http://www.buffalobi...sert-plaza.html -

A 30/4 is a "take it or leave it" type of number. Probably for both parties. Sabres won't budge, if it is them, and if he doesn't take that then 40 probably wouldn't do it. Yes...his agent is crafty. He'd stash the opposing hotel with porn stars and then have them hook up with opposing players and lure them into becoming clients. I did a little lobbying a few weeks ago with some Buffalo area highlights to pass on. You can keep a nice horse farm/ranch 20 minutes outside the city and work with a couple big equestrian charities as well. It's more a matter if he would want to move the entire family here with kids being young and realistically only 3 or 4 years left in the tank. We will probably find out by Sunday. -

He's worth overpaying just for the fact you don't have to give anything up but cap space. As a pure hockey player he is probably only worth 4 or 5.....but he is the ONLY available engine out there. The Sabres have plenty of rims, spoilers, pinstriping and bass in the trunk......but they have had the engine of a Ford Probe. Doan gives you horsepower. -

I'm still not sure......yeah, the Bills did the bricks and the actual bricks were engraved and all the money went to charity. On the Sabres website, they just show nameplates slapped on the pre-existing brick. They put brick around the concrete pillars, so pretty much that is done. I would like to THINK this is for charity..... http://sabres.nhl.com/v2/ext/alumniplaza/brick.html -

If it is the Sabres.....and they get him......I will sing the praises of Darcy and Pegula. An offseason of Doan-Ott-Girgensons-Scott.....to go with Regehr-Weber-McNabb-Foligno.......and now there is enough here to win in the playoffs. You NEED Doan though. Doan-Regehr-Ott can lead this team and get the young guys going and teach them how it's done. Then you can let the Pominvilles,Ennises,Vaneks, and Ehrhoffs do their thing. My concerns about Ruff would be tempered big time with Doan here......there would be real chance at a mutiny with the character added recently. -

No....they are offering packages for $2500. The plaque is a 37 cent fixture that will be glued on I am sure. They aren't engraving bricks....they are slapping nameplates on from the looks of it. -

I worked with a friend in Miami who met an untimely death in his 30's.......and he was such a huge Dolphins fan he was barred from (although it didn't stop him) the stadium after starting a brawl in the club section. In tribute I bought a big brick at the Ralph and inscribed "Go Bills!" A few $$ on a joke when charity gets the money is well worth it. I can't find anywhere on the website where it says money goes to charity. Do we know for sure who gets the money? I just see them charging $2500 and $100 a pop....... -
Cool story Eleven. Prince of Wales stakes at Fort Erie on Sunday. The Canadian Preakness. Biggest day of the year where you can make a $100 bet and not shave the odds by 2 clicks

Hinting? An internal report of 267 pages implicated pretty much everyone. Imagine what a hellbent crew of investigators could uncover? Pegula is too far out of the food chain to hold any responsibility......but dollars to donuts he knew what was happening. I think it just shows a culture of Penn St., Pegula being one of tens of thousands. I wasn't happy how the Sabres hid on this though. I think any follower of any school or team can learn a lesson from this. Or religion I guess.....really not any different than the Catholic church structure and results except I would hope a priest would hold himself to a higher standard than a bunch of football cronies.
