  1. And 2 months later the South would take over the north because y'all would be snuggling on the couch with your tofu and relying on your Papillons for defense. :P
  2. They also rated Darcy Regier #3 GM in the league.
  3. Shall we play a game? Wager..... Name the terms. I say Doan is a Sabre.
  4. Here is a link of the court decision today. There is almost no way a deal gets done in the next 2 weeks for the Coyotes. The guy couldn't get together a reserve to run the team and was counting on this sales tax that would average $15 million a year to manage the arena. http://www.azcentral.com/community/glendale/articles/2012/08/24/20120824glendale-sales-tax-initiative-should-appear-november-ballot-court-says.html If the Sabres sign Doan, I really feel that they have learned the hard way how not to build a team. It sucks that it took them 5 years to figure it out with pitiful results......but I have always said, if I can respect the team on the ice, I am 100% fan all the way. I have no choice but to respect them for bringing in a guy like Doan to set in motion their previous moves the past 2 years. I don't know how much of it is Pegula/Sawyer pulling strings, but with this roster....I will have nothing to complain about. Lindy Ruff you may say? No, contrary to the hubble-bubble from some here, I never thought Lindy Ruff sucked as a coach. He actually gets more focused and you want to root for him more the more important the games are. Unfortunately....my tenure on this board has seen games of importance few and far between. Lindy has 2 major flaws......his goaltending management, and his own self-perception of being a teacher over being a general. With Shane Doan here, and guys like Ott and Regehr.....he will have no choice but to revert to being a general. I don't think he will fight it because Doan is the 1 guy in this league that Lindy can respect and hand the keys over to. He's a true bred West Canadian fella.......not Drury and Briere who were leaders in there own right, but a dirty Yank 'n frenchie. Bross is a very shrewd agent. He put the deadline out, hours before the court decision, knowing full well the Phoenix deal is dead if it went this way. It makes Doan look like the good guy since he's sat on the Sabres offer for 2 months and his legacy won't be tarnished. Now it's time to move on. I fully believe Doan will enjoy this area. He is probably more worried about the actual team than the city. It's still going to be close though. If he can go to a proven contender for 4 for $24.....he just may. The Sabres need to close this thing. There is not 1 player out there that is needed by this team more than Doan. We've needed him for 5 years.
  5. This is like watching midgets wresting in kiddie pool full of Alpo......
  6. Welcome to Buffalo Shane!!!!! Court just ordered the sales tax increase used to give $17 million management fee to Coyotes ownership, to be put up for referendum in November. That means without that subsidy......the deal is probably on hold..... And Mr. Doan needs to make a move but soon. Odds just went from 35% to 70% he is a Sabre in my opinion. Now you just need to hope the big boys don't step up their offers.
  7. Well.....considering they've gone gaga for the crap we've seen the past 5 years........probably all of them.
  8. In this day and age.....we are all old my friend. The sad thing is, getting Doan only puts you in a legit conversation with another 10-12 teams who have just as good a shot or better. Without him, you battle just to make the playoffs. We will know by this time tomorrow the decision on the arena sales tax.
  9. We should have an idea soon. The appeals court is hearing the Glendale sales tax measure at this moment. If they reverse the decision, Coyotes owner out $17 million for the arena. Doan probably go bye-bye. I don't know if the decision happens today, but there should be feedback.
  10. Sorry about Kirby, Bio. If the rest of the world had 20% the compassion you do, we'd be in good shape. You did good.
  11. If Lindy gets Grigorenko and Lieno together.....Lieno will be fine. I still have hope for Lieno if Lindy loosens up and lets some of these guys play. You are a year away with having: Doan (20) Ott (15) Foligno (15) Girgensons (10) Tropp (10) Kaleta (10) who are all men and can play a little Vanek (30) Stafford (20) Lieno (15) who with the others in the lineup....will play bigger Pominville (20) Ennis (20) Hodgson (15) Grigorenko (10) now can play a skill game and have protection from the other 2 linemates Regehr (5) Weber (5) McNabb (5) again......men Myers (15) Ehrhoff (10) will play bigger Leopold (5) Sekera (5) can do their thing That would be a well-balanced lineup where you could roll 4 lines and 3 pair. You pair them right and you would have 3 of 5 skaters being able to physically handle themselves at all times. You could still put up 3 goals a game. It ALL hinges on Doan. There needs to be an unquestioned leader in that room not named Lindy. Doan is the snowball that can push this over into an avalanche. There is no reason the Sabres can't go at least 2 rounds if Doan comes in and even 1 of the 2 rookies hits. I knew Pegula would be all over getting Doan in here......and the more I see, the more I think behind the scenes he is pushing things....big time. Not that I am complaining.....like I said, if there is one thing that people with F-You money hate....it is being made a fool of. That Lucic incident last year had to have stuck in his craw. There looks to have been a mandate given as this is not Regier's fashion to switch gears so fast, overvalue players, and go brawn for the sake of it. Doan is it......there are only 4 or 5 guys in the league that have his clout and that can get Lindy's ear. Lindy Ruff when worried about the game and not babysitting, is a good coach. He needs to trust his guys, and he needs guys that will tell him to chill the F out. Doan-Ott-Regehr will be your defacto captains......no matter what Vanek-Pominville-Stafford have pinned to them. Say a prayer. It really does come down to 1 guy....and Shane Doan means more to this team right now than a 40 goal scorer would. All the weapons in the world are worthless without a delivery system. Doan is the detinator.
  12. 2003 seems like just yesterday........
  13. Best groups of which I own most music.......1) Emerson Lake & Palmer 2) Simon & Garfunkel 3) Van Halen (the only Van Halen is DLR Van Halen) ELP is just out of their minds good. Musicality, poetry, commentary....nobody has come close to bringing it all together to such a high level. Dean Martin.....the best all-around talent you could ask for. If Sinatra was Gretzky, he was Messier. Jazz....dozens........I can name a dozen trumpet players I would take over Miles Davis, but Birth of the Cool is off the charts. Currently I think Joey DeFrancesco on the B3 organ is one of the best going.
  14. I like it.....especially the scene in Goodfellas! He didn't write it though, correct? Yeah, I don't want to turn this into a "he's horrible". He is good. It's just I go crazy when the statues are errected. He's sort of the "legit guy's cool".
  15. Yes......Almost as inspiring as Ave Maria...... :)
  16. Now we're cooking! To me it's like grit in hockey. At the NHL level, there are plenty of talented and technical guys who can play the game and put up stats.....but who are the guys who can go into the corners, or stand their ground, or know when to lay someone out, or lead in the room. When I see it, I know it. If we want to go mainstream, I love Eddie Van Halen. Even sober. Stevie Ray Vaughn deserves much of his praise as an overall performer as well even though not the most technical of wizzards. Bigger jazz names.....John Scofield is innovative and good. George Benson was solid. Stanley Jordan is the Hendrix of contemporary playing. A guy under the radar who is great is Paul Bollenback.
  17. Nobody needs to be convinced...you like what you like. He's not bad....just like Hecht isn't bad. Some of his songs are good. When so many people rave about him though, I feel like I am in some bizzaro world. The thing about the blues, is it is the standard of entry. There are hundreds of Jazz, Gospel, etc. players that have soul and could crush the blues if they went that route full time commercial. That's why I say i like Clapton's voice better because he has a strong yet gravely tinge that maybe makes people feel his playing is more soulful that I view it. To each their own.
  18. This has been a bad week for some of my favorite posters. We have you guys and Clapton......PA and DeLuca are spewing liberal drivel in the politics thread......I think Chz's boyfriend wants to either beat me up or mate with me........ I just watched some Stanley Jordan youtube to cheer me up.
  19.   :wallbash: :censored: :wallbash: AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Clapton is to guitar what Jochen Hecht is to hockey. He swings like an 8th grade jazz band. I want to slit my wrists when he gets mentioned as some amazing musician. I actually respect his voice more....like I respect Hechct's defensive positioning. Kids....don't buy it. If someone likes him....let them be.....they deserve to be happy........... I have $1000 that Darcy Regier owns at least 3 Eric Clapton albums. Ahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! Now you know my weakness. I'd rather Ruff coach for 20 more years than have to listen to Eric Clapton 82 times a year.
  21. Now I have Yakety Sax stuck in my head......thanks guys.
  22. You just plummeted down the Sabrespace poster Power Rankings..........
