You just said it yourself... Coaches are happy Players are happy Owners will make up for it How then is that last line even possible? I don't expect every team to now spend an extra $3 million a year on a coach.....but even at an average raise of 500K.....and think about this....Babcock is about to raise the average coaching salary of $100K+.....on his own.......tomorrow morning the value of the NHL teams just went down a total of $30 million on Babcock alone....and will be down in the range of $150-300 million total if just a mediocre increase takes place. That is.....unless like you expect.....the owners make it up...and again, how will that happen? You can't even say Babcock is adding value to the league. The Sabres sold 16,000 season tickets even when their team president went around saying the goal was to tank, and the team sends out tank pamphlets with their invoices. You know it....I know it...X knows it....PA knows it..........I don't expect everyone to.....

Come on guys.....this isn't a CBA issue....it is a "I'm an owner of an NHL team and would like to make as much money as possible" issue. You both know the point I am making. Do you think ANY team is going to be happy with what Pegula has offered Babcock? If you are a true small market team that actually needs revenue sharing and can't afford a $50 million coach, (nobody has been able to afford a $20 million coach), then Pegula is giving it to you from both ends. He's waving his pompoms in your face, AND dipping into a welfare fund. And by dipping into the welfare fund, he is giving it to the fans as well. The top teams will be pissed with the offer, but at least they aren't taking the welfare money.

Every team doesn't need 137 scouts....or an Omlette Station in the locker room...(and Espresso Bar!!). Every team, and owner, and business model......needs a head coach. Poor lil' small market, revenue sharing Buffalo just done gone out and offered close to 3x the $$$ to the projected former highest paid coach in the league. Do you think if Babcock signs for $50 million....the rest of the league is going to expect to average $1 million and change? Take it out of savings, take it out of checking.....your balance is about to go down......

Well, he is offering to nearly TRIPLE the pay scale for an NHL head coach....and give him $50 million, who knows how much up front. So.....the "Small Market" revenue sharing thingie, where Sabres season ticket holders have seen their invoices go up 30% since Pegula purchased the team...and the on-ice results have gone cliff diving those 5 seasons..... How many people here defend Pegula because he HAS to raise prices for revenue sharing???? He HAS to!!! I'm sure setting the bar for a head coach like this will really lower costs league wide.....and in turn, the ticket holders. This move alone is going to to zap a solid $30-50 million a year from team profits....that is, unless they make it up somehow.....because they HAVE to!!! People can't keep trying to pop someone both ways. If you want Babcock at all costs.....you can't blame a guy for saying the revenue sharing issue is BS. It was to begin with. Once again.....I'm not the one buying the tickets, so feel free to vote with your wallet. The 3rd season of Glee was just released on DVD.....

I've NEVER...NEVER EVER EVER claimed to KNOW what is going on behind the scenes through a "source"....I'm just profiling those who are part of the mix. I give my opinions....strong at times? Yes. Abrasive at times to select general groups or a repeat ankle yipper? Yes. Almost certain at times because when you see a weasel dive down a hole 99 times.....odds are he's going down for the 100th? Yes. But I never am the first to take a swing at a poster. I will usually take about a half dozen to a dozen insults from multiple posters before I go all, "broad", on the board. Many here take what Chz says as some gospel inside source, and attack when she is questioned. Chz has good hockey insight in general, and I would love if that was what it was assumed. The point made above is a great point in a conversation. I see it differently, but it's solid as a rock. She's fine in my book.

Now.....you can say that was just a thought process for debate and spitballing, and I will respect that 100%.......but you can't get cute and be doing the sunglasses thing like you know what is really going on. If you are in the know...fine.....Babcock got the same offer from Detroit as the Sabres so his decision is harder. If not....you are doing what I am doing and reading the situation....and while I don't agree, it was presented in a respectful and valid contex...so thank you...and a valid hypothesis.

Maybe it is how I look at it. Maybe the average person doesn't look at it that way. To me, if there is that big of a difference and your heart is telling you one thing, a bigger difference isn't going to switch what my heart is telling me. It would only strengthen my resolve. Maybe it is the dinosaur in me.

Chz is the only person in all the interwebs saying that Detroit is willing to match a Buffalo offer. Anything i have seen is in the $3 million range for a shorter contract, while Buffalo is $5 million and a longer contract. Those terms are so far apart, that if Babcock told the Sabres "No Thanks".....and all the hubbub about family and such.....then for an extra million a year decides to flip? It makes zero sense. He could still have concern for the family, but it is a pure negotiation ploy and/or a pure money play. There is NO other explanation for turning down 7for30 for 3for10, but taking 8at50. NO other explanation. He's Maximizing his Potential if that is the case. I won't call him a scumbag if he comes....that's an amazing amount and he is a good coach, and he has every right to go for it. But if he does come to Buffalo at this point, it would be like watching George Carlin taking the White House corrispondents dinner gig.
